Today I decided to do one of the major quests that came along with "adopt a Gargoyle" expansion. It's known as "Percolem quest" and is a chained quest with 3 levels - you need to do 5 level 1 before you can do level 2, then 10 level 2 before you can do level 3.
It took me about 8 hours total, with killing of about 120 sliths and 120 raptors, followed by about 60 high plain bouras, 60 toxic sliths, 60 fire ants and also 20 kepetch ambushers (At some point that's the only level 2 quest he would give me...and man, are those pain in the b...to find, not kill!).
After I was done, I went down to Abyss and took on task of killing 20 maddening horrors...not that hard by themselves really, but so many snakes and other serpents spawning right on top that it takes a while to get the whole thing done.
All together, I died about 4 times (All in Abyss while doing the level 3) and even though it was not extremely difficult, it took so long that I was expecting some pretty nice loot. The level 2 gave me a few weapons and armors that I kept for possible imbuing candidates.
Here is what came out:
It's nice to get the relic fragment and the two blue diamonds, but the rest of the loot is soooo terrible, amazing!
I'd put the amount of work as equivalent to do a champion spawn by yourself (Not the mini-spawns from the abyss, the regular ones!) but the loot was way worth than what a champion drops...does not seem right somehow!
All of the weapons went straight to unravel bag and game me 4 magical residues and 4 enchanted essences.
Oh, I also got 6714 gold pieces.
...won't be doing those quests anymore, too bad
If you think I'm not telling the truth, or trying to keep you away from doing a great rewarding quest, give it a chance. It's quite easy really: http://uo.stratics.com/php-bin/show_content.php?content=31168
Quest are a nice way to provide "structured hunting" to players, but unless the loot is at least a bit worth fighting for, nobody is doing the quests and they become a big waste (unfortunately) of development time...come on EA, make people want to run the quests, not just give gold to a library or a zoo!!
