Who shaped your first days on Siege?

I'd have to say Satyr of UDL and Crassus Ta'Kier. They were good examples of 'evil' guys with style and honor. The horde of Shadowclan who raided the Yew GY early on. They showed me that battle can be fun. Famine was probably my arch-nemisis early on Siege. I learned a lot about PVP from fighing him near Yew. DENE and Weehawk were staunch friends, fighting at their side was fun no matter the situation. Ailieve was a great role-model for RP, as always. MWC guild (Married with Children), a small RL family who played together were good friends also. Socializing with them and defending their house from the local wildlife was always a good way to relax.

I know the vast majority of these people are long gone from Siege, and I'm showing my age. Nevertheless, they are who shaped my early days here.

Thanks for sharing that Lord Grot. I am really liking this thread. No matter when we started there were influential folks.

I'm disturbed by the lack of Wulfianism representation in this thread.

It's a widely held belief that Siege began when I merely wished it to be so, with much more evidence to support it than the theory which states we originally evolved from prod shards. Frankly, the thought that we come from Trammonkies is offensive to my sensibilities. And wouldn't there be a more extensive fossil record of shards with intermediary rulesets? Where are the Trammel rulesets with RoT, or the Fel rulesets with insurance?

Any sensible person can see that Siege was Intelligently Designed by a malevolent guiding hand. I'm going to have to speak with Shalimar to start having Wulfianism taught in NEW.

I'll add a third for Sarai. She was one of the best people I have met in all the years I've been on Siege. Two great friends, Ammar and Red Phoenix, brought me to Siege, but once they introduced me to Sarai, I got to see that you didn't have to know the people in real life to enjoy socializing with our fellow players.

UDL certainly taught humility as they seemed to enjoy the periodic raids on our old DOM guildhouse, and TAK showed there could be honor and respect even between enemies.

I'm just glad there are still a few who remember the really old times.

AOS drove me from Napa Valley (I started there b/c that's where my rl brothers played - they introduced me to this world!). My first couple of days on SP and I joined RAT "eeek eek squeek squeek". hehe. It was fun but got boring quickly running around brit RPing a rat. I deleted that character and made Ariana and mostly stuck around Brit. I saw some "elves" going into LBR's castle and decided to discreetly follow. I was guilded that day into ELF (Thank you Lord Tigsalot) being the only female then who would dare to wash and cook for those smelly elves hehe. And though she kinda remembers, my first week, hunting at the Reds Fort, me and another chap ran into Sloan and the 3 of us went and hunted at the Orc cave. Sloan was great and showed me where her and her guild lived N of Minoc.

The first few months on siege were some of the best times i ever had in UO.

I was a novice pk at the time killing who i was able to when i stumbled into Ginsu's RP town of amity. There i met some of the folks i still spend most of my UO time with, Skylark, Chen (wish he was still here), Mac(who i pked unbeknownst to me), Kiera, Ginsu, Otto.

That town was a lot of fun, it was there that i first met Pappy Joe and his crew of XD pirates. They killed our friend ivan and then Aeric and me camped their house with Captain Dirty Jack for a long time. (although jack took it to an entirely another level). The Castor vs Pappy fued went on for a long time, and it did make me laugh everytime we fought, whether i would kill him and take his armour, or he would kill me and exclaim "OMG, I looted Castor's Pants !! luvs luvs)

Wyrm & Vmp would raid nightly and we would go out trying to fight off their gank with my 2xgm skills, Otto's adept smith skills, skylark's mining skills (although do to her not knowing anything about setting stats, she had like 195 str, 5 dex, 5 int at the time.) We would consider it a victory if we downed one of them (and sometimes we did), but we usually got beat and drylooted.

It really was a good time on the shard. The amity crew took the time to do the things, that i used to do on the production shards with my friends, explore dungeons fully, go places and visit the "sights" of the shards, and just be silly. Most trips ended up in a disaster, with the ladies of the group (kiera, skylark, kaya) laughing at me in chat as i got rezzed killed by a tamed bear or some such.

I am luckier than most who play here, because for the most part, my "core" friends are still here for the most part, although for all of us, RL has seriously cut into our game time. It is those core folks that keep me in the game now, and eventually, when they leave, so will I. But i can tell you, ill always look back on that time and think it was seriously the best time i ever had in UO..

Woah, just had a noob flashback. When I first came to Siege, me and someone named Ariana used to noob it up together. Was well pre-AoS, so no relation, just a random recollection =]

Also, Mike Somethingorother and I used to hunt stone harpies in Covetous for feathers and profit... And I still remember taming up a pack of timber wolves to help me attack the ORCs. Back then, the 700 point skill cap seemed so far away.

Aside from random flashes like that, I really can't recall my first days here. Maybe my mind simply can't comprehend a world in which I'm not making ladies swoon and men cower, and thus has done its best to repress all knowledge of it.

My Siege life had two incarnations...

Ginsu started on Siege when it was a test center. I came with friends from Napa
Valley. I thought that playing a straight crafter on a shard with one char per account
would make me rich, riCH, RICH!! I guess it could have... if I had enjoyed running
vendors more. We worked hard together and placed one of the first houses across
the road from the Brit moongate. Those were really fun times.

Then, as happens so many times, interests changed..... and my friends left Siege.
So for a couple of years, I mined and crafted casually... and was a loner for the
most part.

Then, about 3-1/2 years ago I decided to make a fighter on Siege. And so I burst
onto the scene with AirHorn! I was informed post haste that "AirHorn" was an
inappropriate name for Siege... and that I would be killed repeatedly because of
my silly name. Thank you Beylik. After I made a slight name change to Aeric Horn,
I joined PAG for a brief time.... great group.... thank you Pixie, Beylik, and Sloan.

Then I went out on my own... thinking I would build a great guild. And so, as is
my nature, I waged war on the entire shard... and who should oppose me right
away but Py Lethius...

After Py and I taunted each other for a few days, we found that we thought too
much alike to fight... and I decided to join him in KSS. Py sparked my imagination,
and we had a lot of fun together and accomplished a great deal in a short time.

Playing on Siege has been a great experience.

I have been lucky to have known these people who "shaped" my first days.
I have also been lucky to have known all of you who "shaped" the rest of my days.

Online friendship is often too fleeting... like vapor... you can see it, feel it,
smell it, taste it... but you can't really grasp it.

MUCH <3 Siege!

Cheers!

Unless it's been lost in one of my late night 'lockdown purges', I've still got a repair deed from Ginsu. Has it really been that long?

Or is Ginsu still kicking around in the background?

Mine is easy: Hun Battle Gear and Monolith. Now mind you, they were playing different characters back then, but you know who they are now. We were all army buddies and playing Pac. They talked me into coming to siege and walked me through it. Further, When i was stationed in Honduaras (1999), they PUT UP with the SLOWEST connection on earth! It could take me minutes to get accross the screen (at times). I look back at that and wonder how they put up with it! Now we share pretty much everything we have in game, to include accounts. They, along with some of my VMP friends, are the reason I still play UO!

The people that most shaped my early days were:

Mac/Errand
Shalimar
Ginsu
Sevi
Kiera
Chenonceau/Paul Bunyan
Ivan P.
WyRm
Rizarium
Castor

I landed on Siege 3 weeks after I began UO, lured into first the one, then the other, by the evil Mac. The first red I met (Bloodlust or something like that) was when I was wandering barefoot in the wilderness. I was politely advised that the woods were no place for little girls out alone, given directions, which were followed by a warning to be wary of people like him.

I believe Oczko, then of UND, was the first person to actually PK me, 10 steps outside the Trinsic GZ. I held a grudge against "her" for a while, not because she killed me, but because an ettin lurking outside the town killed my horse (1 day away from bonding) while I was getting a res.

My first public event on Siege was the knighting of Rizarium of KSS, which I think took place about a week after I arrived. A very sleepy Shalimar sent a very confused me off through a gate, as the sole representative of NEW. I did not really understand how the private housing worked or about the leave house option, and got "trapped" in the KSS temple until well after it was over, until someone kindly showed me how to leave. Mac had already been on Siege some weeks at that point, and was in ISS. My 2nd week, I left NEW, and joined KIN (the pacifist peasant RP guild created by Aeric Horn/Ginsu, a former KSS member).

I believe it was towards the end of my second week on Siege, I was wandering around the moongate of Britain, where there were some shops nearby (like I could buy anything - still I spent a lot of time looking) when I happened upon an unsavory looking character, in a dirty looking copper robe, named The Murderer Castor. I said hello, but got no response, so I waited a bit. While I waited, I amused myself by reading his profile, which had a lot of stuff in it at the time describing what a magnificent, yet wonderfully fair man he was. When he woke up from his nap, he seemed surprised to have someone standing next to him, and still seeing in color. After a brief chat, I was offered an escort to wherever I was going. I declined, as I was planning to meet up with Mac to go take a peek in the Solen hole (which I was very curious about) and got a "suit yourself my lady". Mekare (Sevi) and I later encountered Castor again one evening in the town of Amity, and had a pleasant chat, but sadly, just a few days later, my "uncle" Errand was the victim of foul murder at the hands of this miscreant who claimed he was a "fair" killer. So, I took him to task over it on these boards, and he offered to do a penance. For his crime, the mighty warrior received a mount named CookiesNCream, with the stipulation that he not actively try to get it killed, and I ended up with a wonderful friend.

Amity was a town inhabited by pacifists, so Kiera, Paul Bunyan, Otto, Ginsu, and I were volunteer "bait" - the most we ever did was "fling" fruit, and baked goods, at our attackers, and leave bulletin board grafitti, and tamed animal greeting cards for them at their own houses. Early on Kiera, and I learned that WyRm has no appreciation for the finer literary points of good bulletin board grafitti or how to interpret that a tamed-released tropical bird attacking him in his bedroom means "I love you"
. I did think it was fun that he kept his house public - we kept ours public too, for the most part, with just a couple of hidey-holes for refuge, so you never knew who was going to pop out at you in the house or if you were going to make it to safety when you were being chased. Hard to believe, that now so-deserted little part of Minoc was once a hotbed of PvP activity on a daily basis. KSS was really a presence then, patrolling rigorously as a group, and in the faces of the bad guys all the time, with CWS always just a shout away to bring in reinforcements. KSS, CWS, UND, ORC, FOB, KoS, VET, VmP, BFI, & TAX were tags you were certain to see if you hung around there enough. Moonglow was the "sewer of the shard" at the time, but you were sure to find a pet res there if you needed one, and could watch the guard whackings, res killings, and other shenanigans while you waited. C8V always seemed to be out in force doing champs, DTA were usually to be seen in town buying up the faction vendors, and I saw LEX hanging out at the crossroads and moongates on the weekends (they were mostly Euro time - was about the only time I saw them), I sometimes saw VoG, and ran from REV in dungeons when exploring. I think it was just a couple of months after I started, that the XD Pirates landed on the shores of Amity. We had an impromptu party on the roof of the town hall with Pappy & crew. Alas, our relationship with the pirates went sour after they lured innocent Ivan out on the SS Minnow, for a 3-hour tour and then attempted to do him bodily harm.

My first 6 months on Siege has been the high point, some of that I am sure, just because everything was fresh, and new for me in UO. I have had good experiences, and enjoyable times throughout the last 2 years, but there is no question things are different now in my game activities. I am in the same boat as Castor. Although Ivan, and Chen have left UO behind, I still have the "core" of the people around that make it fun for me.

Now then.

My life on Siege officially began when I met Wulf last year. All other experiences are now compared to that glorious event, and found sadly wanting.

Oops. I think I burned away too much brain. Where am I, and who are you people??

I've spent nearly all my time on Siege playing alone but I remember the first week or so I was here I had two experiences that taught me a lot about Siege. The first was at the spirituality gate. I was trying to get my fencing gain (Alamore started as a paladin) and I had a run in with Famine (at least I'm almost positive it was Famine). I was redlined almost immediately and then the attack was over. I guess Famine realized I was new (I was never in NEW) and just left me alone. It made me realize that even a PK can be nice sometimes so don't be too quick to judge.

My other experience was while I was hiding at the Brit bank. Siofra was there and at first I was a bit worried to have a red a few steps from me. Then I eavesdropped on the conversation that was going on and realized Siofra was helping another new player out. This taught me that just because someone was red didn't mean they would kill you. I later learned of KSS and I have liked them since. I still think maybe someday when I have more time to play I'll see if I can join.

Toyota, Rich Is a Gimp, The Most Evil, Honus Wagner, Drannon, etc.

These guys pk'ed and stalked me to no end, except for Honus, he was my buddy.

And yes, Corwin was very interesting, but wasn't as big of a star back then as he was in his last days on siege.

for a while after i started on siege i was a loner....i started way back before AoS with my thief Trepes but was a loner and quickly got annoyed with having no money and mount dying and blah blah.... so i quit...then after AoS i got sick of insurance and i saw A|B was starting up here...so i wanted to fight them (as i did a little on LA) and since i was given a vet account with an ethy earlier... i made Iris Sertam...joined KSS and became buddies with my ISS guildy Perseus. Best times i've had in UO. He had a finished account, i had all my skills in RoT..so i died quiet a bit more then he did......we had fun...did spawns alone to raise money, both went red from yodarth, helped him run a rp event for kss when he was temp GM. we were a good pvp team (still the best Capture the Cloak team ever
go pinkies! ) up till he sold his accounts.

honorable mention goes to Py though for helping a newbie and not booting me out for all the wise cracks at inappropriate moments

The biggest help to me and to the Waka guys when we first came here were ...

Shalimar, Evil Horror Girl, Hugibear, and Rhyssa ...

Shalimar got us all into NEW and helped us with some basics of Siege life.
EHG and Rhyssa set us up with lodging and stock house spots when we first started as well as helping us find a place to settle ... and again some basics of siege life (which I guess we ticked them off somewhat about since they in short time disappeared from siege) ...
Hugi was one of the few of us that had a complete character here when the rest of us were total noobs here ... he got us spawning when we were just hitting ROT.

Have to say the immediate challenge of VmP, C8V, and RAID (or was it REV then ?) helped us speed our departure from NEW so we could more play to our style ... KSS was also a help somewheat when we started here at least being one of the few guilds that welcomed us rather then saying they would drive us from the shard like a number of others said when we started.

Hey Yasou! I think Dave may have shaped your earlier days of siege! When he stole that EM event item from you :p a lain clan tabbard or something, I remember you were in NEW at the time. was NEW supposed to protect from thieving? cant remember.

! And I did help you on one of your first champ spawns! i didn't even steal from you guys then.

When I first started a blokey called Q'uatir, wonder if people remember him, took me under his wing, he owned the house right by glow gate. I played siege a little back in pre aos with a char called "Jim the man" but was a major loner. My early days were a laugh, siege was quality 2003/2004, wish i'd played on it properly prior to that.

Hmm. I do miss siege, never coming back, Darkfall should be out one day!

I am happy to have this chance to thank Brook for my first days on Siege. My personality is such that I don't like to ask for help. Brook on the other hand is not someone to wait to be asked...Her unselfish generosity was inspiring. I noticed she ALWAYS stopped what she was doing when one of the new members asked for her help. She ALWAYS thought of the needs of others and probably still does by donating to NEW and being a leader..

Through her introduction, I met WyRm and the time of my life as I learned how much fun pking and pvping was..

Thank you Brook.

Hmm.
I hope my memory goes that far back reliably.
*tries to remember what he had for breakfast*

One of the first I met was east of Luna, a most regal vampire, literally radiating evil. This was not a creature - this was a presence! He told me to repent - and, though I did my best, twas not good enough for him, and he took all save my shoes. Luckily, I'd placed most of my belongings in the bank a mere minute earlier. Was this WyRm? I do not recall clearly, and he never spoke his name. But this grim presence was pure vampire, no mistake.

I thought that Minoc would be a safer place, so off I went, bashing mongbats all the way, and soon had enough gold to replace my lost garb.
Some of the local miners noticed that I didn't seem to know my way around (although many feel the same today, with the number of things I walk into daily!) and sent me on my way to Britain.

I mined the rocks near the NEW guildhouse until they were barren of ore for several hours, until I heard footsteps nearby, and had my first meeting with the Lady Shalimar. Her advice and guidance was invaluable, and she was certainly the first true friend I made on Siege.

The next 'influence' was a strange little man, named Mithril, who 'attacked' me near Britain.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and I look on that very differently today than I did then, but at the time, it seemed to me that a vile brigand had attacked me, and I'd killed him by a lucky blow or two from my smithing hammer.
On the ground, where he fell, was a check for half a million.

Of course, now, questions such as 'who dies to a newbie smith wearing cloth and weilding a NPC bought smiths hammer???' come to mind - but they didn't then. That was a truly novel way to help out a newcomer, AND make them feel they COULD make it here on Siege. Whoever you were, Mithril - my thanks.

From there, a brief lodging on the outskirts of Iantown, where I first met Kelmo, and after that, while mining in Minoc, I met some very good folks with whom I'm still friends today. These were the folks of Amity. Ginsu, Skylark, and several more - and our lone protector, Castor.

Sadly, I had to spend some time away from Siege then, and when I was able to return, Amity was in its last days. After we tried, and failed, to save it, I wandered alone a while.

So, those are the early influences. There have been more since then - KSS, CWS, and others, but those are the ones ye have to blame for this old blind man hanging around all this time!

Thank you, my friends indeed.

*still can't remember what was for breakfast*

For the very early days - or at least, the first year on Siege, mine's a VERY short list.

Blind Otto.

I was perfectly happy lurking around on Europa. Yes, I was a *gasp* Trammie.

Shut up Otto. "What do you mean 'was'" indeed!!! Grrr.

But, he kept on and on about what a wonderful time he was having here, and then he started writing about things on the boards... and since he was blind, he needed someone to write for him - so he employed a scribe, as part of his RP.

Then he kept bugging me. So, when I finally gave in and came to Siege, It was as that scribe.

Of course, on Europa, I'd hardly ever been to Fel. The place terrified me. And now, here I was, on a shard that was all-Fel, all the time. So, I stayed where it was safe. Inside Otto's little house near Iantown, shaking in my sandles. And whenever a SCARY person (like Kelmo) came by, I hid!!!

And there I stayed, training inscription and magery, and not a lot else.
Oh yes. Hiding. Hiding was essential. I think I did a little bit of fishing too, when I found I could fish off Otto's porch.
Occasionally, I'd get up the nerve to go and zap the occasional giant scorpion but I'd always scuttle back inside really fast. This place scared the blazes out of me!

Then Otto moved to the outskirts of Amity.
I HAD to get to know people then - they were all around me!
Of course, after Otto became very ill, and I was the only one around to tell them where he was, I got to know them a bit more. And more. And more.

That's probably one of the longest 'adjustments' to Siege ever - it took me over a year to stop house-hiding - but I'm glad I did!

Now Siege doesn't scare me at all.
Well, not much. Maybe a little bit.
What was that noise?
Aaaargh!

*hides*

Hmm, well my first day on Siege, which my old friend Serlesh brought me here to check out, some guy with an axe saved my life from a bunch of shardie orcs South of the Shire...his name was Grot, he as been saving my life now for years.

The people that influenced me early on were Serlesh, Ass-be-Dragon, and Splitcheecks, as I hunted alot with them in the t2a lands long before power scrolls were even thought of.

Grot, Beryl, Ailieve...they all set an example of leadership and RP to me, along with Azer, and the true vampires of DT(mainly Herog, Salo, and that damned Drow)

Tarin Silverleaf taught me how to be a ranger.

Nym T'sarran(i think i spelled that right) and his group of Drow friends, gave me a nemisis and drove me to be a better elf rper.

Myrn, Dag, and all of LDH were great rpers.

and then of course this band of Knights we made friends with in Avalon. They were and are still like brothers to me. I will always defend them with my life.
Out of them Py and I forged a great friendship.

All the people above taught me what Siege was about... the people and how to treat them.

****
In current Siege days, funny it would seem my list has grown much shorter, but yet has some of the same names.

Grot and Py are still here, Kush and Imasho have become the hunting partners most of the time and good friends. The Knights just moved to a colder place, but they are still my brothers. The new people in CWS/KSS/TSR im getting to know and an enjoying their spirit to Siege.

There are many other i have crossed paths with, and hopefully I've helped them along the way, and became friends with(Rohan). One day defined my respect of people here---
My accounts had been stolen, and my housed dropped and chars deleted, when i got back online, the icq's poured in from many people friend and foe alike. "you ok?, what going on?" were the jist of them. When I found out the people from a game thought enough of me to spend 3-4 hours of their life, or more for some of them(Kat, Dola) getting my silly pixels and land back, any thought I had of quitting UO left very fast.

This has been a cool thread, ive enjoyed reading it.
