Who hunts low-end monsters that new players could hunt with?

I just responded to a post in Idea's to help new player's where a new player mentions problems finding people to hunt with. With most of us being old-timers at UO, I can see where finding others to hunt with could be a problem.

How many others hunt monsters, say dragon on down, as a common thing?

I tend to hunt low-end monsters for Crafting supplies and have never really been into hunting high-end monsters. I would be someone who a New Player could hunt with. Are their others like me on Chessie and other shards who New Players could hunt with? If so, post here. Maybe a few more New Players will stay if they can find people to hunt with.

I'll hunt with anybody who invites me. I don't care what we hunt, so long as I don't lose karma.

That said, I think a newbie would be better off following me to a high end spawn so he could pick up the millions of gold I leave behind. Then he could buy himself a suit, insure it, and go crazy with his bad self.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.

I think it does a great disservice to newbies to gear them up and throw money at them instead of letting them progress naturally.

I have several chars that can be found in the old dungeons. Hunting leather, feathers, using the smuggler's edge, etc... I also do level 2 and 3 treasure chests, those are pretty low end mobs.

I still regularly go to kill the DC elementals in Shame, they drop Crystalline Blackrock. Outside that not so much, outside weak critters during the first couple levels of mini-spawns like the one with skeletons and zombies in the Abyss, and early stage Champ Spawn critters.

I still regularly work skills on some of my "newb" characters in Despise all the time..... I'm often killing the lizardmen...

And if any "newb" asks me what's best to train, parry, tactics, anatomy and weapon skills.... I tell them go kill lizardmen in Despise.

The garg city explorer quest is low end if you choose. Then there is farmer Nash quest spawn. And I never finnished my T-hunter so I just do the lower end maps.

Greatest tool ingame is the chat. Then there is being on at the right time with the right people.

I don't even know what would be considered low-end anymore... Do the original dungeons still even spawn the old basics? Ie: Orges and whatnot in wrong, rats and mongbats in despise, or orcs in first floor hythloth?

Note: I'm pretty certain that the orcs were removed from Hyth, but I havent paid attention to the spawns in the first floors of any of the old dungeons in who knows how long. For all I know mongbats might be extint. I dunno if I have seen one since my return to the game.

I want to hunt with Jaashua ;p

I usually hunt high end only during guild hunts or a friend, I'd be happy to help out :)

I regularly do earth elementals and the ant lions for fertile dirt, bones, and what not. Also the acid ele spawn in the Abyss isnt that hard and I do that fairly regularly.

Kinda hard to do this when new players dont often join the servers that have folks of our nature, or know how to get to us.

I love getting them on teamspeak and hearing their "OMG's"!!!

Dunno if anyone has ever suggested this, but perhaps we, as in UO, needs a new player server, restricted to like gm skill only, gm items, no arties, or none such the stuff, and allow new players, and old for that matter, to get together and start out life there, and give them like 30 days playtime, then upon next login after 30 days, they must choose a "live" shard to swear allegiance to, or some such type thing, and then get transferred to it, lock, stock, and barrel!
After your account is like a year old, you can then keep a toon there, perma locked to that shard, for reasons of being a "helping hand" player.
Might help us old timers to extend the helping hand on occasions.

Justa thought......

General chat was a nice step forward but the messaging system in UO is pretty bad. What I see on some shards around New Haven is people will toss things at the bank that a noob can use, which is a pretty nice practice and not something that could be done if the new, new player area is cut off from the rest of the world. Start-up gear versus full 70s is a large step, and finding the right stepping stones can be hard without assistance.

I just give them a million and a metal guy to shoot with a green weapon.

Who needs monsters now-a-days in UO. The Devs removed the need to hunt them.

If this could be done with each account I'd remake my two pre-LBR Crafter/Foragers and set up a supply shop and crafting/hunting school outside Britain.

Prolly missed my point.
Newb server to get the "hang" of playing, transfer of toon and all stuffs to have gear to hit ground on "real" shard. With new players having a choice of where to start now, land is gonna be seriously cluttered if "helpers" scatter gear all over the uo world in hopes of hitting a new player.
Besides, if your guild tagged on start up server, why not "recruit" said newb to your shard and gear em up?

Bottom line tho, was merely a suggestion to get the ideas flowing.
A better, or different idea ?

I just don't think we need a whole shard dedicated to being a newbie. We have Test Center if a player needs to learn something specific. I also don't think EA would build a new shard just for newbies, at least, not until the character clone is functional. Even so, once the clone is functional, it's just another reason to use Test Center instead of the development of a new a shard.

New player accounts should be told to try the new player area before they choose a place, or it should be the default location with a description which suggests why it's the default location. I like the city selection for current players, because it's defunct right now and has been defunct for a long time. It'll be nice to start a new char wherever we want again. If the game doesn't encourage new accounts to start in the new area then that's just poor planning on EA's part.

The problem right now isn't the toolset, it's the lack of a manual, and you don't have to make a new shard to supplant a lack of a manual. We have a perfectly fine new player area right now, and I don't really understand why EA is wasting their time on a "better" one when the official website is severely limited and last I checked the digital download does not come with a PDF manual. I'm not really sure what a newb is expected to know when they run into Dreglor and get owned, and if they die, I'm not sure they'd know where to go to get rezzed. The EC fixes some of these issues because it highlights healer npcs and has a built in map, but for anyone who plays 2D you're as good as lost if you have no idea what you're doing. When I started in 1999 I had the T2A guide book, a UO Bible. New players don't have anything close to that now.

I also would like to help new players. However, it is hard to find true new players on shards now. I play mostly NAPA...
