Ok - the Grimm pumpkins are gone, as are the named skeletons and their named containers - and Trick or Treat will need 12 months to restock...

So, what was your favorite new thing from Halloween 2012?
Take the poll....

I have been collecting BONES since day one of Ultima OnLine. I think the earliest bones weren't even containers. They were used as decorative items in houses. Later it was marvelous that you could have bone boxes. The history of the bones would be interesting to know. This new addition on Halloween of named-bone containers has added another dimension of fun to the game. I'll be dreaming up NEW CHARACTER NAMES for next Halloween with hopes the named-zombie skeletons will again spawn!

My character named X-Wife will be looking forward to next years death toll. Seen a few houses sporting her bones as a doormat.
And, if they bring it back next year, you'll see your X-Wife's bones on one of my doorsteps too....

I was on earlier this morning making more named skeletons. tonight I found a few other player's named skeletons roamimg aroumd a couple graveyards so I killed them all, got white named bones off those, then could not find any more, nor could I get more pf character's names spawned. *sigh*

It was fun and I agree .. they should have the named skeletons return every year. 'Sleeping dog' & 'Sleeping Dragon' were ones I missed making. I only got A Dog, Lazy bone, The Collector I can imagine players writing down new bone names they come up ready to use next Halloween, so it will even get funnier. I had to wait 7 days to delete some named characters before starting new ones. A contest for the best named bones would probably happen too. Who ever said Halloween is just for kids? It's meant to be for kids who grew up and got old too!

Named skeleton containers, in colors yet... I really HOPE they do that EVERY YEAR. Now that we know what we can do, I'll bet it would become a tradition that players would look forward to every year.... (not to mention the ever-so-humorous containers, that you can walk on, as "featured" deco for some of our more gifted decorators).... Please keep the code and re-use it every year!

D. None of the above.

They need to change the Grimm pumpkins so they do more than follow you around as you cast fireballs at them. Give them a fancy ranged attack.

Both but I clicked containers. I made some for my own deco named "Mr Bone" "a script miner" (killed lots of toose)" a bone knight," the postman " for my stairs and" a pumpkin thief " for my Halloween deco. My son suggested "Santa" for the fireplace but American friens got sad as Santa arrives later to their homes.. I rersisted for now;)

I voted for the named bones, but I love the trick or treat stuff as well. Although I do wish they'd take out the horribly annoying candy script that starts running after you eat one or two pieces.

I liked the bones, but the process of getting them was beyond boring, so I quit after the first night. I never cared about the masks, so I didn't make an effort to get any. Was really disappointed there was again no big quest like in past years. I was VERY disappointed to see there were no new trick or treat items. That really bummed me out.

They need to go back and look at the 2008 and 2009 Halloweens and mimic those. 2009 especially. THREE new Halloween monster drops (off any monster in a virtue dungeon!) one of which was pretty hard to get, two new art items for trick or treating, the new art named jack-o-lanterns and the quest... The 2009 Halloween quest was arguably the best quest that has ever been put into this game. Anyone could do it, there were many cool rewards including the costumes, and of course the conjurers garb that came in the two flavors, and the ability to summon a boss fight.

That was a GREAT Halloween. One that didn't feel like 2 days later you had done it all. They need to do that sort of thing again.

So many whiny people. It's a HOLIDAY EVENT. Exactly how much effort and dev time to you expect to be put into it? It lasts a few weeks and its gone. If there was nothing new added you'd be crying about that. D was not an option. Feel free to take your vote elsewhere if you didn't enjoy the event. Maybe go start a poll about players who are never satisfied yet never add anything to the community but negative entitled complaining. Then you could all give each other hugs and make ridiculous game suggestions to each other.

Better yet start a private server and gtfo.

I had other things I was set on doing this year, and less reason to interact with this seasonal content. I truly enjoyed the jack o lanterns we had gotten over the last few years, and wish that content had been available.

*edit* I was remiss, spent several hours on the shard of the dead, and found that to be quite fun. I would have done it more but got to feeling guilty about not doing anything prodo. :/

Oh well, lol. It's a game, right?

The bones were kinda neat, but everything else was just another spinoff of last year and prior years. I wish they didn't recycle so much content for holiday events. In my opinion what happens one year should never be repeated the following years. And Trick or Treating should yield different rewards each year as well.
We pay to play and we pay to keep new content coming, not recycled content.

Just my two cents.

The bones were EXTREMELY cool for RP reasons. I created "An Innocent" as well as "A Murder Victim"... RP wise very useful. Then I believe the rest of the community did a few named for each town. As well as getting bones for long "dead" enemies and friends.

Now as for the masks I love the collecting of them. Though I still am hoping they will give us the "Grimm" as a container that when turned on jumps up like that.... would be neat. I was working my tail to the bone to get Mesanna, EM Malachi and EM Elizabella masks.

As for the Trick or Treats that is always my favorite part but I can only spare time for it when there is something "new" to get. I did some to see what was dropping and to replenish my dwindling supply of Grim warnings and such... but when I heard I was getting the metallic cloth dye tub for Xmas perhaps, I quit working the Trick or Treats. And I must be the only one that misses having to fight my "evil twin". Mostly I really used to enjoy getting turned into various monsters and critters that was fun. I spent quite a bit of time taking screenies of the various ones I turned into that year.

Unfortunately, This year and last year were the worst events i have participated in since i started in 2006 (which was an awesome event!)
2010 was ok with the Bloody sash....although 2009 was better. 2007, '08 were also fun...2007 magincia was actually very cool!

This year, like last, didnt seem to have a lot of thought put in, IMHO. Even the trick or treat rewards were the same????

hopefully next year we will see a real fun, well though out event people all enjoy and participate....and we can forget 2011 and 2012 were extremly boring.

Dude, no need to lash out. A question was asked for the poll, but not all the answers were available. To answer "D. none of the above." seems perfectly legit to me, since it answers the question put forth in the poll. It would have been the one I clicked had it been there. That is not "crying" as it implies nothing negative, just that none of the first 3 options were a "favorite".

Incorrect. The question asks which of the new additions was your favorite. D: None of the above implies that the person answering enjoyed none of the new additions, which is in fact negative. If you don't have a favorite, don't answer. Seems like a simple enough concept, but of course people always need a way to get their negative opinions out there.

I'm not sure why you think I'm lashing out. Maybe you're sensitive. You should catch me on a bad day.

Ok, now what do I do with the 200 odd halloween masks. I thought having to die to get your own bones was a bit lame, I went to the grave yard and collected a few bone containers which I gave to guildmates( why is it so important to die in this game? It is a rhetorical question) I didn't do the trick or treat part so no comment on that.

I'm hoping they keep the concept of the named skellies and bone containers, but apply them differently perhaps. WE can only use so many containers...maybe next year let the skellies drop named hanging skeletons, or put our name on a liche statue and make it a drop, just kinda rotate it around a bit :p

The Developers have always changed the way Bones were delivered to players in UO. This new unique idea is one that I wish they would continue because many players didn't get a chance to do the quest as they were involved in having too much fun collecting Masks and attending events during Halloween. I remember collecting Bone Chests from the Ant Lions not too long ago while getting white seeds - - wasn't that in Despise?

*oh brother, it's too easy to forget when, how and where a quest was done while trying to keep up with all the new things that have been introduced to this game!!

You used to get bone containers from killing Ant Lions which are now in the Solon Hive... And I believe they still drop there.

As for the bones we got thankfully on GL's the UORPC helped the community by donating time and a building which was a Mortuary.... and bone clearinghouse where folk could drop off bones and they were then put on vendors for a small fee and colored bones have been stored and given out to owners only. Certainly we gave out 100's of bones.

I guess it will just disappear forever... and I will be disappointed forever. :sad3:

Good grief... I am getting so sick and tired of hearing all the moaning about that trinket... Don't you know that every Dev is keenly aware of this request/demand by now?

And since I started this thread, I'm gonna' be blunt for a sec here. ***I think that the tendancy of some of the mod's here will be to look carefully at how the thread proceeds from this point - with an eye on the screen and fingers on their keys, but I'm also hoping that it can somehow remain civil enough to not warrent that, because this conversation is one that everyone should weigh in on...*** Either way, here goes....

My initial post read:

So, what was your favorite new thing from Halloween 2012?
Take the poll....
I was quite clear in my intent here.... I wanted to begin a conversation about what people LIKED best this halloween. My poll (and it's intentional lack of an option D) reflected that sentiment....
We are all keenly aware that there is are certain among you - who cannot refrain from constantly derailing a conversation regarding the actual topic of the thread - and, while I certainly can't speak for anyone else here, I certainly can speak for myself - I believe that your negative comments (when the topic specifically does not enlist them) simply serve to shorten the original conversation, because positive people tend to be turned off by negative comments - it changes their mood from positive to negative and they don't like the feeling so they stop reading the thread. And who does it serve anyway, expressing these negative comments? Not me, and not you - when the thread disappears...

So, if you really feel so strongly about the lack of imagination or coding talent or whatever that the Dev team has or hasn't, then why don't you start another stupid thread on that subject yourself - and not bring it here. I know that if I were a Dev on this UO project - and I frequented Stratics to see how people felt about what I had done, and I opened this thread really hoping to see the fruits of my labor appreciated... It would be hard to not feel some of these comments as a personal attack. That's simple human nature.... I mean, with comments like yours and the others who see fit to let us know how lame it all was, what sort of feelings would you take back to your desk tomorrow?

There is always room for Constructive Critism, but don't forget that we are talking about people here...
If you're a Dev and you see this:
This was the stupidist freekin thing I have ever seen, none of the haloween stuff was interesting, and Didn't care for any of it...
or

If you're a Dev and you see this:

and, one of my favorites from Mal:

In particular, notice those parts of Mal's post that I've bolded, cause I'm comin back to that....

You're a Dev.... Which of those comments do you think would have the effect of enforcing your enjoyment of your job more and help keep you excited about going back to work on whatever the next project is?

When you see people that feel that your work just stunk?
Or
When you notice that entire communities actually enjoyed the possibilities that you presented with those named containers, (which should certainly make you smile and high-five that other Dev that thought it was cool too...)

Pay particular attention to the way she praises one aspect of Halloween and then in the very same sentance, she drops in a hint for a future request. THAT is the kind of constructive dialog that has always proven to solicit superior effort from its target. You get the most out of people that way. The next time you feel the overriding urge to criticise the Dev's for their work, you might want to pause and consider how you would feel in their shoes, if you had to listen to you....

So, once again and finally, please begin your own thread and leave us alone in this one...
You can have all your negative energy proudly displayed for the all the others who feel the same way - in your very own thread.... Here, just copy/paste this: What I hated about halloween 2012.

Oh, and before you give me that tired old "I'm just giving you my opinion" crapola, take your opinion to your own negative thread... Get famous for being a whiner on your own dime...
(That way, the rest of us can just click on one of them from time to time, to update our list of names to ignore...)

Not only are the bones decorative, they are useful, so for that reason I chose the bones. My main intent though, when the event started, was to get the new masks to compliment my completed set from last year, but as days went by, due to my work schedule, I found that I wasn't going to be able to get every name from last year in the new masks, AND the new names in all the masks as well. I was just a little bit disappointed about that for a while. So I eventually just concentrated on the bones. If anyone is looking for a mask they missed this year let me know, I will be willing to give to you if I have it. I didn't get any Mesanna masks this year; every Mesanna pumpkin I killed was empty. That RNG!

I really did enjoy the event; I hope they bring back the bones, as well as continuing on with Grimm's pumpkins next year. Thanks Devs! I give it a .

Please add Helloween-Mask to Clean-Up for 8000 points each :D
Now I don't know about 8k points but I'm thinking they could at least give us more than a mere 10 to 50 points... Many things they put to clean up with less than say 100 points I just kinda either keep or leave them where they are... not worth hauling all that stuff anywhere. Now yes I "could" put a trash barrel right by the box with stuff in it but then I'd have to remember to wait around for awhile for them to "poof" what I really wish is if they could add a "flush" button to the trash barrel so I could "flush" it empty when it is full instead of having to wait around.

And Shelra I know what you mean about the RNG trust me I sent Mesanna a message saying OMG why do the UO Gods hate me!!!!!!! After killing 12 of her pumpkins and getting only 1 mask from last year!
