Next is the poll for how many play other sex characters.
This one would likely get nasty. I've taken a fair amount of bull over the years due to the female character among my thirteen male characters.

I chose to do a father/daughter pair of crafters instead of the usual father/son bit. The daughter played as a RL friend would act. It's been interesting.

This could be an interesting poll...

I'd actually like to see one on whether your main is the same sex as you.

Just out of curiosity putting in that you are a Male and your main is a Male... You are a Male and your main is a Female... You are a Female your main is Female... You are a Female your main is Male.

That might be a very interesting poll.

As for me I'm a Female and my main currently is Male.

I once asked my son why he keeps playing female characters... finding it a bit strange... But he looked at me and gave me the best answer...

"Well... because if I make a character I have to look at all the time... I may as well be looking at something I enjoy looking at... Besides... girls get more stuff."

I thought about it for awhile and it suddenly made perfect sense to me.

I often found though that if I wanted much respect and wanted my character to be thought of as a skilled leader(Especially when it comes to PvP and planning attacks and defenses) .... More guys listen to you and respect your authority and ability to command better if they think your a guy.

I never played to "Get stuff"... I played for the RP and the community. I like to get my own stuff.

When the game was new, it could be problematic to be a female gamer. I did get hassled a bit. Now it's not such big deal. :)

I gave up the notion of playing a male character some time ago. I just feel more comfortable playing characters of my RL gender.

Yeah, I agree with him. Valana tends to wear a leather mini dress looking outfit consisting of a leather do with a leather skirt & jewelry for 100% LRC, an Island Girl outfit a lady in my past was fond of consisting of a long white skirt, white tube, and white hat, or leather hunting armor of bustier, skirt, and the rest.

Maybe UO needs a censor for the teens and the dirty old men.

As far as a main character, that changes over the years. As a male playing with female characters. I got sick and tired of getting theese sweet pieces of female armor. I could never just get the Invul Plate Tunic without the female on it. Used to be an elf female could wear anything you found. Now we have Gargoyles. The bone armor needs a human only tag right down to the orc helms. What right minded elf woudl get caught dead in an orc helm.

When I first started playing UO..... I got asked all the time if I was "Really" a girl as back then my main was a Female.

I'd say Yes... and that would spawn all sorts of craziness... and I gained a whole LOT of "stalkers". I also got lots of "Stuff".

So I quit answering the question and eventually made a Male main character. Now I get a bunch of folk going "OMG!!! I thought Malag was a Dude!" To which I reply.... "Malag is a dude. Malag's PLAYER is NOT."

This isn't even something you can make a poll about here.

For one, easily… I’d say only a small fraction of UO players use this message board system.

Then… people who haunt UOHall, maybe half actually still play the game. The rest just post for the sake of something to do. Detached from the game entirely, that’s how they are such experts on everything. hehe :mf_prop:

That's a very good question.

Malag always used to complain during his years a Squire that human footwear was just terribly uncomfortable and he loathed wearing the irritating human boots. He often took them off as soon as the opportunity to do so would arise. Then he found boots he could wear in the Citadel... He wore those for years until he was given his current boots (His Royal Spies King Listener footwear) that are "obviously" designed to allow him to walk without making a sound whenever he chooses.

NP here rl female playing both male and female chrs. alike in UO.

On my own original first ever UO acct. that my son actually made for me,
he made that very first chr. I ever played named Queen Zen,
on Chesapeake back in the day.
When I got around to making myself more chrs.
on that first acct. they all are female.

When I took over my son's acct. after he left UO for good,
his main chrs. were all males only.
I did not have issues playin HIS male chrs.
having hung around with him IN UO
and knowing him all his rl life, since he was born. :)

I just play his male chrs.
as HE would/still would do and did,
when he was still here in UOland.
I still have all those chrs. of his on all shards,
yet to this day..his original ones.

When I got around to my own 3rd and 4th accts. in UO
those chrs. ended up about 50/50 males females.

I DO find though, that my male chrs. are spoken to differently
than my female chrs. depending upon whether someone else
knows it is *me* behind em or not.

I call it: dudespeak or guyspeak. ;)

IF they think a male, is playin that male chr.
they talk to my chr.
just like guys would talk to another guy.

IF they know it is ME [rl female] behind that male chr.
or, if they [first] got to know or knew *me*
as my female main chrs. per shard,

then even if I AM, on one of my male chrs.
they call all my menfolk chrs. Queen Zen on Ches.
or Miranda on Siege or QZ anyhow ! :)

But then, I emote:
'BURPS in a manly way'

& then they laugh, finally call my
guy chrs. [by their own names]
& not Queen Zen or Miranda ! LOL

I do have one, of my son's former chrs.
that NO ONE talks to at all. Poor fella.

Folks just move away from that chr.
all the time, he is shunned,
cuz they are probably thinking...
Ima maybe a pk them, or that ima gonna pilfer
their backpacks *on that one chr., on Chesapeake* !

That sad chap is unfairly... shunned, I tell ya !

I'm female with both male & female characters.

Years ago, a female player developed an unhealthy obsession with one of my male crafters. The poor fella was positively stalked.

It became problematic enough that I felt obligated to confess my shy, bumbling crafter wasn't being coy, it was just that the player behind my crafter is actually a happily married mother. She took it with good grace and left my poor crafter in peace.

On that note, though straying a touch off topic. :)

Valana began in 2000 as Miner/Logger/Alchemist/Scribe with the remaining 300 points in Magery, Eval, Med, and 30 or 40 Resist to deal with what she typically ran into.

Over the years her crafting skills have varied and she currently has. 120 Imbuing, GM Item Identification, Alchemy, Inscription, Cooking, Forensic Evaluation, and the rest of her 720 points into Magery which is brought to legendary by jewelry & books. She now carries the title of Merchant over her head with her Guild Title being Craftmistress to her Fathers Craftmaster.

She had been the Gardener as well but that got moved to her student crafter who now does it to free her for more important things.

The other 11 characters pretty much are around to support these three crafters, or provide a change of pace when I'm not inclined to play in the crafting corner of our sandbox.

No sexism with Val. :)

My gm chefs in UO are males !

There are so many great chefs in the world [whom are males],
they were my inspiration to make my *chefs* males.
That and my own husband cooks, as fantastically, as I can !

RL spouse was the inspiration for my male chefs,
with his whole hog, slooow cooked to perfection,
when in game world, I take 2 of those huge controller thingies,
and slap a UO whole hog in between em, with a fire pit below it all,
to run my UO whole hog bbq shops/resturants,
off my game houses/ patios ! :)

My Siege human male gm chef, is also gm scribe, gm alchemist, and fisherman/archer combo.

My Chesapeake human male gm chef is also, a fisherman, and archer & stabby weps chr. :)

Some people make golems out of those charcoal black 'thingies',
when those golem parts became new into UO,
I opted to use em instead, on my UO patios,
for making creative UO [whole hog, bbq king smokers !] LOL

2 more males - LJ'r & elf tamer
male child - "Kender"
female - my main
lastly, male?? - not sure, not even sure of the race, it's just an anime soulstone

I'm female IRL and so are all my characters. My niece has a character that she frequents of her own, and lately she has been asking me to make one for my son, who is currently only 10 months old, and far away from playing this game. So who knows, maybe someday a male will grace my character screen. Might be interesting to play the other half.
Back when I first started I got the " really, you're a girl!?" and also started receiving "gifts" and stalkers. At the same time, being brand new to computers in general, and an overall trusting person, my first UO friend was female in game, but I didn't find out until a year later that the player was male. It just never came up. I assumed the female character was a female player. Imagine my shock when he told me. LOL

I think we need more women in this game!!!

I play both male and female characters. My Necromancer is Male (Evil creature=Male )

I also have a male fisherman, and my forensics begger is male.

My Tamer, Swordswoman and Archer are female.

Since most people know my female characters..I've had people I have seen in years come up to me and say *Larisa??* (Devious Desire and Maharia are well known on Origin) that my male characters are totally unknown, I RP them as male and when someone asks me a question or starts talking to me, I tend to talk more like a guy...I hope no men take offense lol but I don't usually say things like *Sup man* or...*how you doin bro?*

Male chars are fun to play though, people do tend to treat you differently depending on what gender your character is.

I have 2 female characters, I'm male. Both my elves are female due to the simple calculation that if I have to play an elf, she might as well be able to wear all armor.

I must say, getting hit on when I play my elf is ... awkward.

Oh no! When I switched my main character from my dexxer to my ninja, I stoned cooking on to my female character. Killer muffins just weren't lethal enough.

Though in fairness she is also my blacksmith, and is both my strongest and most intelligent character.

So I guess neice is the word.
She's an Inscriptor/mage.

My main reason for making her was to see if female characters get treated differently.

Male IRL.

All chars on my first acct are male. When it was time to try a tamer, I had to decide if I wanted to redo one of my existing chars or start another account, I opted for a second account. The next decision to be made was did I want a male to tame/ride Kirins, or a female to tame/ride Unicorns? I decided on a female tamer for the Unicorns. It followed naturally that all the other chars on the second account would be female too, and I kind of paired them up with the male chars on my first account as husband and wife teams, even though I rarely play both accounts at once. Other accounts I've had since then have just been storage accounts, with all the chars being male.

You know I never thought about that...

All my "cooks" are female.

I have several crafters. My first two characters were both Female... Willa and Trilla. They are twins. Both Yew-wood elves. Willa is more caring and nurturing. Trilla is spiteful and doesn't care at all for males... especially human males.

Then I made my fisherman... Vincent he has always been the captain of the "Motley Cruzer".

Then I decided to make crafters. I found there was no way to put all the skills onto one crafter... (This being way before soulstones). So I created to crafters.... one was a smith..... and miner so I just had to name him "Krom". Krom had magery and soon became my best mage. I gave him all things related to metals. Tinkering, smithing, mining... but I also gave him carpentry. Next I created his Wife... Valeria. Younger sister of Willa and Trilla... She was a tailor and carpenter.... also a cook with Alchemy. Never really thought about that seeming sexist... just seemed natural and logical at the time.

As it is I believe I have more male characters than Female... though that's not entirely my doing. I had at least 4 accounts that I "inherited" from male friends and several of those characters are just all males.

When I make characters myself I tend to do it for RP reasons... so the genders are predetermined based on the RP reason.

As for RL and cooking... being female... I don't cook. Infact I was "Fired" from cooking as a teen by my father. My brother cooked the best out of us 4 kids... and oddly enough both of my sisters married guys who cook really well... My ex husband had to cook because I wouldn't cook everything boiled in grease and he wouldn't eat anything I did want to cook so I told him if he was going to be so picky he could do it himself.

My Father was a great cook himself. He enjoyed being in the kitchen and cooking... He loved to "experiment" with food as he called it.

I've always contended UO has higher than average female (real females!) players than most other games. (Hey the house decorating is like having dollhouses after all*grins*).

I have never understood why Mythic doesn't take advantage of the appeal and market it to females in some non-traditional gaming venues.
