Where do "lost items" appear and what is the most effective way to spot them?

I have way to many hours into training this skill and have found *one* lost item. They don't appear in dungeons & guard zones. Where *do* they appear, where do they *not* appear & how the hey do you find them when and actually *if* they are appearing?

Forested areas OUTSIDE of guard zones, also along shorelines and reasonably close to roadways (that cut through forests). Some people have had a good bit of luck around the edges of islands.

Best way to see them is Ctrl-Shift handles and then teach your eyes to filter out reagents (easier to do than to explain really... but then the concept behind the idea is a big part of what I do in my real life job) and look for equipment items (weapons, armor, and jewelry).

the lost items seem to only be in felucca and trammel facets. outside of town, where houses cannot be placed, near the edges of water and in forests.

it only took me about an hour and a half to raise forensics from 0 to 60. within a few tries of trying to ID a lost item, it tells me the NPC to return it to. i see no sense in raising this to GM, unless there is a benefit added.

I've got the forensics up into the 70's doing the checking paragon chest bit.

I've been doing the cntrl-shift routine and turned up one bracelet so far. It looks as if the 30% price break of becoming a Follower of Honesty isn't worth the time unless your buying saltpeter, and considering the amount of gold you can farm, even just mugging mongbats, in the hours you would spend searching for Lost items, it's looking to be not worth the time. It's just another "What the heck were the Devs thinking, or were they?" situation.

i wouldnt say that.. its not that hard to find the items, just takes time.. once you find the "areas" they spawn, mark runes and keep going back.

If ya use the EC with Pinco`s mod you can filter what type of objects you display when holding cntrl/shift to items only.Makes it ALOT easier.

I'm finding a few every day and handing them back to their owner - except to the guy who spawned inside Trinsic walls! That one had to go in the box at the bank.

So far I'm follower with 7 dots towards Seeker - and on Siege where mento seasoning is 3k per bottle and diamonds are 600gp each, I'm taking it to knight. Terry and I like to use holy mackeral pies for treasure hunting.

They don't appear in dungeons & guard zones.

They do spawn also in guard zones, but only on the shoreline apparently. I have found a lot of lost items on the beaches of Nujel'm... I suspect that lost items spawning in the middle of the ocean are relocated to the nearest coastline.

It's the time involved thats the problem. The human lifespan is only so long and I'm pretty far down that path.

If there isn't an immortality drug invented within the next decade or so, I suspect I'll never live long enough to see my character show the Knight of Honesty title.

Also this is worthwhile for Guilds.

If everyone in the guild that is out hunting, chopping wood, IDOCing or whatever Pools the items for one or two members to turn-in , The whole guild benefits.

I'm not sure if this is how it is supposed to work but i think i lost a whole dot from knight to follower between buying 5000 arrows for about a 40k discount on arrows. So i had to turn in another 12 items to get knight again. All coast line outside guard zones are good except ice isle. I have never seen an item there. Nu'jelm is good too. You wouldnt believe the single square spots outside guard zones on this isle...

I found many one day 3 in a row actually all within one screen of each other in Feluca Moonglow going North I believe? and then west to the shoreline.. Then run that shoreline and you may find some there. Hope this helps.
