"When you see the new items."

At the video HoC, the team stated that when we saw the new items, we would know what the new booster, which won't be a full-on booster (a statement I don't quite get), will be.

I know speculating is probably premature while we are in the midst of the new quest/event (the gargoyle separatists) and while the housing lotto aftermath is being dealt with, but I could not help myself.

What new items are they talking about, I wonder.

Based on what I've seen at least 3 distinct possibilities occurred to me.
One of course is that we can pretty much tell some kind of brewing is coming. But can that be a booster by itself, even not a full-on one?
(And what on earth can "not a full-on booster" really mean anyway, since a booster is basically a mini-expansion....What is a mini-booster?)
I've seen some virtue-related things, probably for the cathedral in Magincia,
but could a
Virtue
-based
booster or big publish of some kind
be coming?
Also some have speculated there's a major crafting upgrade brewing.
Could that be it?

Anyone have any intelligent speculation, maybe have clues I've missed or at the very least able to put together the clues we've all seen to form a more-coherent idea of what might be coming?

Or are there items coming that we haven't even seen yet? If so, what are they and when do we get them?

*shrugs*

I'm feeling speculative tonight. What about you all?

If that is coming I think I might have to really play this game again. Really hope that is coming.

It was in patch notes as posted by someone.

Not notes....Sorry....But that stuff where someone goes through text strings.

The Client files is what you are thinking - both new text strings and new artwork have been patched in.

If you want to be spoiled visually:

New housing tile sets (and other stuff that you've mentioned in your spoilers).

We've already seen one of those housing tile sets - it's the Inn and fishing guild in New Magincia.

Based on the sheer guesswork and speculation that abounds on these boards it includes: Brewing, Magincia Bazaar and 2 new house tile sets.

The reality we'll have to wait a little longer for.

Something that is not a full-on booster will obviously not be priced as a full-on booster and probably not contain anything as extensive as say the ship/naval changes of High Seas.

Would people pay $7 for new tile sets, brewing, the virtue stuff, and the Magincia Bazaar, or does it need one or two more things?

After they wrap up Magincia, they are going to be working on quests and new artwork and the new player experience, so I don't know that they would have much more time to invest in anything beyond what Petra mentioned.

I hope this idea is well thought out if/when it is implimented.

I hope that at least it comes, if it will cost real money, with the usual 20% House storage upgrade that so far they have been coming with....

Some players might not be interested neigther in Breweing nor in the Bazaar Vendors or the new tiles but might definately be interested in the extra +20% House Storage increase....

And any reason that might bring more revenues to Ultima Online is something good, IMHO.

How about put into it a +20% Housing Storage increase and perhaps also some of those containers directed at better storage that players have been asking for ages, now ?

I am talking about Books to hold Treasure Maps (Like BOD books work for Bulk Orders...) with a capacity of 500 assorted Maps into 1 single Book counting as 1 item....

Or I am talking of armor and weapons "Armoires" where players could store a large variety of armor and weapons thus greatly reducing item count.

Or I am talking about "jewel cases" where players could store all of their jewellery for faster retrieval using filters and to further reduce their item counts.

The list could go on, I guess I gave a pretty good idea of what could be a nice addition in this mini-booster, IMHO.

Speaking of containers:

I'd like a return of the 1600-weight-capacity backpacks like we used to get off pet corpses, so we can better organize our ship holds.

It's hard to sort fish in the holds because of the containers in them retaining their 400-stone limit, and using more containers only results in running into the 125-item limit, when quests are done.

Even better would be recoding the holds to act like house secures or items in banks, where the containers have no weight limit - but it would involve more coding than simply adding that existing old-style backpack to provisioners.

What is brewing and Maginica's Bazzar?
The Bazaar appears to be a house-less vendor system for part of Magincia, where you rent the space for individual vendors in competition with other players.

Brewing is apparently a new cooking or alchemy subset, if not a new skill.

Neither have been implemented yet, but Both have new entries concerning their use added into the client in the last few months in client patches.

Not everything that gets put into the clients makes it out of testing (and the stuff that doesn't make it rarely gets removed), but these items being added to the client means there's a good chance that they'll eventually make it live.

Absolutely.

I support this 110%. Much needed.

Given the list you propose, I would pay that ... easily $5 for just the tiles. Add popps proposed +20 and to me it would be worth $12 at least. Just don't make it dependent on HS booster as I refuse to even consider that one.

Yes please! And the abilities to scoot stuff around inside like a backpack as well. I like neat little rows of things.

My biggest wish would be for the old 3D client backpack you could resize. I always kept everything in good order in those and missed it when it wasn't part of the change back to 2D/EC.

How would "brewing" be significantly different (results wise) than alchemy? Would drinking a beer for Str be any different that drinking a potion? I'm all for adding more utlilty to cooking (assuming that is where it goes), but i think there has to be a better option than potion knock-offs. People just think it is cool because it is virtual alcohol.

Then again i may be way off base and it could turn out really cool. I just havent seen the angle that makes this truly different from what we currently have (in which case just add some new potions to the alchemy list).

Oh, and i support 100% Basara's ship hold idea. Managing fish (which are WAY to heavy) is a pain in the rear.

... and give me my 8th character slot. =P

that's a lot of brewing !
Brewing...I don't know why people are so into brewing. Remember fishing? I see people sell special cooked fish buffs for 5k. What's the point of brewing going to be? Just to get virtually drunk? Shrugs.

I don't know if I'd want to pay for art and brewing. I want to kill stuff.

Specialized buffs, such as the fish stuff and the PvM thief stuff and presumably the
brewing (I like to include the spoiler space still for someone who hasn't read the text string posts)
stuff if it works how we suspect it will, are niche markets. They have their uses and someone will make a few quid off them (to use the English phrase).

The game needs stuff like that. One of UO's strengths is that it has many kinds of content; that's one kind. Stuff you can make a few quid off of and never get rich, but meet your characters meet their needs.

IRL, why does someone open up his own shoestore when maybe he could make more money managing the local branch of one of the shoestore chains? He thinks he's better at running it himself. The extra cash doesn't do you much good if you quit in a rage, or get fired for defying company policy even when you don't necessarily mean to be defiant, you just want to do it the way you think it works.

In UO, why would someone fish when they could make more money killing lich lords? The extra money from lich lords means nothing if you hate it, get distracted as a result, die, and log in frustration. You have had no fun and your characters have lost money. Your character has bills to pay and a few quid is better than losing money.

But fishing....There's the life (not for me but for others, I mean). Sure I only make a few quid from it, but I can make a few quid from it!

And finally.....something like
brewing
, potentially!, adds depth to the world even if one never directly experiences the associated content. A lot of people have asked for it. I haven't been one of them but....Sure, I could see why.

Granted, it could be implemented and suck. But the same's true of anything.

I'm with you on this one. It just seems like a "reskin" of cooking or alchemy ... basically same results with a different/additional crafting gump.
