When creating a new account...

In the past when any of you have created a new account with a key code, have you been forced to pay for a months subscription before receiving the 30 days free that comes with a new account code?

I'm talking to a tier 3 support rep and that's what he's telling me to do. To pay before I receive a free month. He told me this is how all MMOs work. Having played MMOs since the year 2000, I can emphatically state that he is full of it but I'd just like to know for fun if anyone's done this. Maybe I've been transported to the twilight zone
.
Note, I just want to make it clear I know it's standard operating procedure to add a valid credit card to set up the account, but it isn't to be billed for the first month before that initial 30 days expires.

Yeah, I was pretty sure I was still in the same dimension, and that I and not the rep was right. Thank you!

Now I'm just playing the CS queue waiting game. Bleh.

In the past, you'd get one of those ghost charges which they send to verify the card is valid. Those charges never posted in the past, however.

Yeah, this guy wants me to actually subscribe to the game first on my trial account (paying for a month of game time), THEN he says i'll get my 30 days free. His exact words below:

"The free 30 days is available after you pay the first 30 days. This is the same set up all online MMOs have arranged."

Technically, if I subscribed to the trial first, I'd no longer even be able to use the new account code. It wouldn't be a new account anymore! Argghhhh.

heh! yes.
confusing, but, yes, tier 3 is correct in this case ...
you are missing/overlooking, not accounting for some details.

It is usually masked AT the transaction point, when you BUY a new account
and are sent/receive an activation code
You will be playing on PAID time(Comp gets its money cleared) then arrive at "discount play time"
(free, two months for cost of one, free month with new account ...etc.)

Free time first ... well, you wouldn't, as a business >be wise< to allow your new customers to eat the free meal HOPING that they would buy another ...

following along?

I'm not missing anything, Fayled. You might be arguing semantics, and technically if that's all we were doing you'd be right. Problem is, the rep told me to pay a monthly fee via credit card to start my account. To pay it upfront, to be charged immediately. That is not how any of the 20+ MMOs ive played have worked, nor is it how UO worked in the past.

It ain't semantics. Yes you are still missing some pertinent details.

Let us start with some critical ones first
What game and what "offer" SPECIFICALLY are you referring to/about?
