When are the shards going to come down?

Will we get some kind of notice, you know, like an actual date and time?
Or, will it be some silly one hour in game notice?
I don't want to be in the middle of something and get told to find a safe log-out location because the shards are going down (for however many days).

From the hints given, I get the impression that they do not know what day yet - but it should be down "hours" and not "days" (assuming all goes well).

I read "Plan on server downtime early to the middle of next week across all shards." to mean the server downtime will last from early in the week (ie: Monday or Tuesday) to the middle of the week (ie: Wednesday or Thursday).

Was it clarified somewhere? I may have missed it.

I think early to middle of the week means it could be Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, which translates to Friday at 8:30pm. It's sort of like when you schedule a repair with the cable company and they give you a time of 12 to 5.

I'm pretty sure it's going to be Wednesday afternoon and evening. I'll be stuck in a hotel in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, about an hour from the nearest civilization or bar. Only bears and moose for entertainment, and they are out of season.

now flutter makes it interesting reading this could be 3 things.

1 this will occurr sometime monday tues or wed all shards being down at

same time


2 this will occur monday tues or wed with each shard going down at different time until all shards completed.

3 the dreaded all shards will be down and could take 2-3 days



personally i would like 2-4 am local time for that server but that would not
be easy so i am hoping at least different times as they unhook and hock each server but 1 is more likely some will be mad other will be ok as long as we know in advance .

it's not the coming down part that worries me tho it would be a bit easier to plan things knowing when... it's this part:

For the last three months our engineering team in concert with EA World Wide IT, and the Net Engineering group have been working on upgrading our character databases and warehouse (read that "Housing") as well as login server applications to a new version of Oracle.


What does this mean to you?


It means a more consistent and predictable infrastructure. More simply? Account age, housing information, and the backup process for user data
will be on a more stable platform.


so does that mean that they'll be taking all my characters information, all my houses.... all my little bits and pieces.... and transfering them? kinda like when I take the pictures off the camera and move them to the computer?



someone talk to me about this while we wait for an answer to Flutterbug's question, and use little words.... cause I'm not real easy with the thought since they can't seem to keep the name of my pink champagne bottle in place

If I understand it correctly - a very basic analogy would be saving your game as a backup, reformatting your old WinXP, installing Win7, and then reinstalling your game. The data and software is basically the same - but the behind the scenes stuff that make it work is upgraded.

Early to the middle of this week means friday at about 7-8pm local time... during your shards EM event. When you log back in you will have 50 balrons trapped in your house (built upto 9 floors with gozas automaticly) and you will be teleported to Green Acres... Insta ban. Its been fun playing with you all.

The way I understand it they are moving a copy of the pictures from your camera onto the computer. At least I'd hope there would be a backup should the transfer fail (lol?)
