I found the fountain once...
I think it was north of the grey goblins(?)
Head east, at the bottom of the death corridor that wants the golden compass, and fight through the wolf spiders and grey goblins...
Or something like that... I was exploring in stealth

I got a coin yesterday from one of those acid slime things right at the beginning, been carrying it around everywhere trying to throw it into any water I could find. Soon as servers come back up ill try that fountain.
Thanks, I just dont even know where the grey goblins are to be honest, Ive just been playing on my brothers account, so ive been to the abyss first floor, and termur, thats about it Heh. Ill go try to find it once servers are up tho.

There are "tangible" rewards rumored to come from the fountain. Maybe even something nice and rare. I'll be happy to keep those coins safe for ya. *wink*

I checked my stats bar, I didnt see any difference in anything.
Publish 60 notes on page 5 discusses some features of the Underworld, including the "Font of Fortune, which heals and resurrects, and grants wishes to those who toss in lucky coins."

Aye there is a range of rewards for the lucky coin.
I haven't tried anything with a Lucky Coin, but in some of the old standalone Ultima games, if you threw a coin in a well, you could get a horse in one game and a glass sword in another game, if I recall correctly. I think you had to wish for the horse by saying it, but I think the glass sword just appeared on the ground after using the coin on the fountain.
This might not have any relationship at all to UO, of course, but they DID introduce gargoyles and types of glass swords into UO, so it's possible that it relates.

I got one of these coins today off a green goblin. glad to know where the fountain is because ive got to go kill the spider queen so i can do both while im in there. Gunna get soooooo lost though lol
