The devs are spendig double time to create things for 2 different client. The old 2D requires a lot of efforts and still made with old technology so soon or later could stop working.
IMHO they have 2 options:
1) Close CC (destroy forever all third party cheat programs tied to it at once) and make EC as unique client by finishing it.
2) Close both clients and make a new one which really worth the efforts and sell it on steam with the game code.
