I was browsing through some old UO-related screenshots and came across some with listings of the largest guilds in UO. Seeing these made me wonder what's become of these guilds. Are they still active? Have they grown or shrunk? Which guilds are currently the largest ones in UO and how are they doing for membership?

Here are the names and numbers from those lists from March 3, 2011, starting with the top 20 guilds in the entire game and then the top 10 from each shard, ranked by their total recently active veteran characters (characters with 700+ in real skill points):

Grd, an RP guild, is still around. Pretty dead these days, but still around. Far cry from the days when 60 would turn out for a big event though, let alone just having 60 on the roster.

On Europa, Guardsmen Militia have already been mentioned, but I can also confirm I regularly see folks from Elven League of Virtues, Wardens of Yowlumne, and CD Reigns around. No idea of current numbers for any since I'm not in any guilds or alliances so have no clue about 'activity' - certainly fewer than in their 'heydays' from what I notice, but that's sadly true of UO overall.

Dragon Clan
Confirmed sighting. DC still exists, has recently started to pop back into activity following the return of their Guild-Mistress. Still doing the same things they were. (Take this as you will.) Periodically I do Exodus runs with a friend of theirs. Several of their members, including but not limited to their famous Guild-Mistress, were in on the most-recent Exodus run I did.

CuZZ thats how we ROLL
Confirmed sighting. Y still exists, still doing the same things they were. You see some members of them around the Abyss and in the Ilsh. champ spawns, and at EM events. I've always liked Y.

The Wrecking Crew
CREW. I'm pretty sure they are still around in some form, or at least their players are. There's been considerable churn in terms of the most-prominent PvP guilds on Great Lakes. If memory serves CREW eventually became the guild now known as APEX? The guild itself, however, I haven't seen in awhile. I used to try and fight both DC and them at the same time, usually with predictable and expected results, sometimes with unexpected results.

Guild of Friends
Confirmed sighting. GoF still exists, has periodic activities and regular meetings. On an alt I did some kind of sea-based expedition with them some time back. You see several of their members at the Luna Bank and at player events. They did some events of their own not a few months ago, to celebrate their anniversary as a guild.

Beyond Reality
BR. Seen the tag, no idea how active they are.

Guardians of ValHalla
Confirmed sighting. GV. Still exists, holds net tosses semi-regularly in Magincia, Fel. Based on that their mission appears to have changed, as when I first came over to GL they were one of the largest active Tram-based guilds that did the Tram content.

Game Over
Sounds familiar but I forget what became of them.

Slayers of Britannia
Knew 1 or 2 of them in passing, never knew them to be very active though they could easily have done stuff I didn't know about. Guilds will after all periodically do things without informing non-members! I honestly do not recall if I've seen them lately or not.

Fishing Council of Britannia
Confirmed sighting. The famous FCB. Seen a couple of their most-prominent members around GL semi-regularly and they maintain various vendor shops of middling traffic. I'm a little surprised they were ever big enough to make the list, because they were and remain most-definitely a niche guild. However they were, and remain, great people so I wouldn't be surprised if people wanted to put their fishers in FCB just to hang out periodically.

Masters of War
Have not seen them for a long time, indeed I don't think they were very long on this list. I mostly remember them because of what appeared to be their founding member, a Sampire by the name of Krayzie Bone. You used to see him at EM events periodically, but I had the impression that like most Sampires he spent most of his time solo-ing high-end content. (Mostly I saw him at Luna, presumably while he was taking a break from solo-ing Dread Horns or Travesties or the like.) He had the best Ornate Axe I've ever seen, and it was not Imbued. He seemed a nice fellow. I always had the impression that the guild was more a close association than it was a guild that sought shard hegemony and large numbers, but I could be wrong.

LAKE SUPERIOR
A N N I H A L U S ! !
From my time on LS I remember various incarnations of this guild, sometimes associated with and sometimes opposed to a Fel-guild called TC (The Cabal). I'm surprised to see this guild on the list as of March 2011 because when I left LS, considerably in advance of March 2011, I hadn't seen them in awhile. I guess they came back.

the WOLF PACK
A guild I remember seeing on LS way, way back, and I'm surprised and impressed that they were back as of March 2011. The few I knew seemed nice. They were long-standing, glad to see them still around and seemingly active as of March 2011.

Lords of Thunder
Unknown to me.

Britannia Electric Company
BEC was one of the original champ spawn guilds. "We supply the power" was their motto. Unfortunately they faded in prominence after AoS, ecclipsed by UOF and TC and other guilds that devoted themselves less to champ spawns in particular and more to Fel writ large and, in the case of UOF, bringing as much of Fel as possible to the other facets. I know little of their fate.

House Forsaken

The Good Ole Dayz

Black Swords Regiment
Ah, BSR. A combination RP, champ spawning, PvM, Trammel PvP (through warring), and Felucca PvP (mostly through hutning PKs) guild. If they were on this last as of March 2011 that means they bounced back somewhat from when I left LS. They were always the product of one man who had a vision of a guild with this unusual combination. Unsurprisingly therefore their numbers waxxed and waned depending on his interest in UO and his ability to maintain his guild's focus on and interest in their unique and multi-layered mission.

The Alliance: 69 Guilds

Why are you allied to so many guilds?

To build a strong community. With this alliance we know made sure we can always have contact with players who can help, who can join in events. There is always someone around . Or just to chat while fishing or mining or crafting. Not everyone like me keeps looking at General chat.

The game is so big that we had the impression , no one is around. But with the alliance we know thats not really true, many people just on different locations doing different things. Its so much easier to build/organize and plan events with the alliance. But that don't mean that players who not in the alliance can't join.
You can even see that the players from the alliance plan the things for everyone else.

And of course it helps in Felucca when doing champ spawns to call for help you can always rely on and trust .


With the Alliance we can plan so many weekly different events and make sure there enough players to do them.

For Chessy - The Royal Britannian Guard (RBG), Order Among The Hated (OATH), Shadow Hunters Empire (SHE), The Citizens of Historic Dragons Watch (DWxC) and Fury of the Phoenix are still around.

We are still here but very very quiet and not as active as we used to be - We haven't had SHE Auctions in over a year.

A lot of us left for other games and we've played those games together here and there. Once EA decided not to make a classic shard a lot of old players decided to give up on EA. I'm not sure if there is one exact reason, though. UO certainly isn't what it used to be, and as addressed in other threads, it's a matter of people changing, needing new things in real life, and the shelf life of UO compared to the quality of current gen games.

A group of them joined CREW awhile back and eventually left or were booted ( I wasn't very active in CREW much of 2012 so I don't know exact reasons) from CREW and started their own guild. They're two different groups of people, not a case of one guild turning into another.

FwD more or less fell apart from the inside quite sometime ago.. It only takes "One" to ruin a good thing..

Only myself and my girlfriend left in FwD.. and the occasional straggler logs in..
The guildmaster handed over the stone.. accounts.. houses.. etc when he left..
I have kept the guild alive (barely) by staying in it, out of respect for the past GM..

Confirmed sighting. The famous FCB. Seen a couple of their most-prominent members around GL semi-regularly and they maintain various vendor shops of middling traffic. I'm a little surprised they were ever big enough to make the list, because they were and remain most-definitely a niche guild. However they were, and remain, great people so I wouldn't be surprised if people wanted to put their fishers in FCB just to hang out periodically."

Thanks for the shout-out Galen. FCB GL is alive and kicking! Our FCB Fishmarket is still a great place to shop. And you can find several of us dying nightly at the invasion
You are right about the "niche"--many of our members are alt characters with their fisherfolk in FCB.
