What would make a good commmunity gathering location?

if there was a spot set up for the community, what would you want there so you would hang out? I know the olden days were as simple as blacksmith shops, now luna is bank sitting and shopping. But there has to be something 'magic' or just cool that would get you to hang out.

Would it require crafting bonuses? Semi rare spawns? A ton of games you could play? Teleporters to every major spot on your shard? All of the above?

I just need some good ideas, so let's hear it!

Bomb Luna. Seriously, just wipe it off the map. Magincia x10. Force people to find a new spot.

Then add some (more) stuff to Brit.

Hot Topic, AnF, Barnes and Noble, a kiosk here and there, an Urban Outfitters...

Oh wait. That's a mall. But I bet it would work!

I think the only thing that could work (over a long time period) would be some sort of community interaction. People gathered at Brit Smith shop to buy and sell, get repairs and ask questions of older smiths. People gathered at Brit bank to buy and sell especially before pets got bonding. When people need to interact, they will gather.

Moonglow- or Trinsic if they did the player marketplace idea.

I have alway liked Moonglow- fun town to PvP in and around. (The telepads and the road around town) Enough housing for vendors but not enough to be a problem. And Mongbats, lots of Mongbats.

On a side note... I can't stand AnF the one here you can smell 5 minutes before you get to it........

On Topic though, WBB needs some love, yea Luna has everything close but it's too small...

My two "home" towns in UO have always been Yew and Trinsic with Britain coming up a close third. It saddens me to never see anyone at any of these towns...Except seeing Trebr Darb in Trinsic one time.....I wonder what he was going to do with all those candelabra's....

I don't really know much about the Player Marketplace that was mentioned in an earlier post, but it it is like the one on a certain nameless server then that would be a great way to bring people to other places besides luna.

Those candelabras were simply my efforts at raising tinkering skill. I didn't know, at the time, about the little spyglass quest for rewards in Heartwood.

I'd love to see players gathering and interacting more. I just don't know how that can be done when the vast majority of players are only interested in loot.

Someone came up with the idea of having a bonus to crafting (was that you, derium?), when a lot of crafters are around. Add this as an area effect to the banks of the old towns and I bet people would start hanging out at wbb again.

This idea has its merits. Maybe 10 or more players in a given area, all working the same skill would create a Power Hour/GGS or sorts. Skills would have to be worked in their respective NPC shops ??

face it, Luna and Zento are the hot spots because this is where the vendor search sites roam for data. Luna is more popular because everything is closer together.

they need to re-do Luna city center, get rid of the big fortress building and make it an open space kind of like Zento, but different and unique.

make a spot that EM's are allowed to customize with teleporters and town crier and whatever else.

yeah, that was my idea. I feel a lot of players are in the "me me me" type of mentality lately, so to me a good balance would be to give players a 'reward' for gathering together, while at the same time creating a community. Last thread I had about that someone had a good point, not much is needed now with crafting boosts, except for maybe imbuing. So that idea might even fail.

I've been doing my best to think of what little "perks" would get me to loiter somewhere. Brit West served the purpose of needing to buy/sell, needing crafters, and a place to find people for dungeon crawls. Now we have luna that kills the need to spam buying and selling, needing crafters is gone for the most part because people have their 7x mules. And large guilds are now serving the purpose of finding buddies to dungeon crawl with. All Brit has to offer now is space.

However, humans are social creatures, give us the right perks and we will gather. I am just not sure what those perks would be anymore. Hell, even if any bank spawned the semi-rares at them, I think even something silly like that would be enough to start.

A long time ago bowcrafters would sit making bows together as it was believed that you would gain skill quicker if someone else was training the skill nearby. I never did find out if it was an urban myth or not but it helped me meet fellow artisans.

I remember that as well. And a great side effect of many crafters working in the same spot is the amount of knowledge you learn is priceless. So many times people are asking in chat "what's this mean", "how do I do this" ect. Well, if you're crafting with other people, you can be social and learn tricks of the trade. Such a shame that has died off

Back in the day you would gain in skill if there was someone around you using the skill. This was well before the time of the skill and stat locks and someone could screw you out of a GM skill by lighting a campfire near you. If I remember correctly the passive skill gain would only happen if you were lower than 50 real skill, I could be wrong though.

Yes indeed.

The only thing that made someone run away faster than seeing a red PK, was the sight of someone lighting a camp fire.
