What to loot?

So...I've been looking over Chrome's data and it's clearly apparent that leather armour got the shaft. In addition, mask and jewelry are not looking too good either since as far as I've seen you are not allowed to enhance jewelry with metals.

So......
Assuming that you're a gargoyle and you'd be unraveling at the queens forge (god only knows why you wouldn't) we'd need a base score of 401 to get relic frags.

Given that you can enhance with metals for a bonus the following would be the item base score you'd need before enhancing with valorite, barbed, or frostwood:

Unimbued Weapons or Metal Armor: 335
Imbued Weapon or Metal Armor: 429

Unimbued Leather Armor: 386
Imbued Leather Armor: 495

Unimbued Wood Weapon or Armor: 335 (includes bows)
Imbued Wood Weapon or Armor: 429 (includes bows)

Unimbued Jewelry: 401
Imbued Jewelry: 514 <= Not possible

Unimbued Cloth Armor and Masks: 401
Imbued Cloth Armor and Masks: 514 <= Not possible

So....

If we assume we don't want to spend any of our hard earned imbuing resources....we could imbue up to 80% intensity on a weapon.

We can loot the following...

Metal Weapons & Armor:
5 Properties: 429 <= Would already give us a relic frag
4 Properties: 349 <= Would give a relic frag enhanced with valorite or frostwood
3 Properties: 269 <= 1-2 Max Property, 0-1 at 90%, 0-1 at 80%
2 Properties: 189 <= 1 Max Property, 1 at 90%
1 Property: 109 <= Not possible

Well...you get the idea....I hope

Thanks for the data.

I got 4 relic fragments in half an hour at Swoop tonight, human artificer + queen's forge, one was from a boomstick though.. think I'm going to stick with enhancing loot.

Thanks very much for this information. So is using the imbuing menu the way to determine the item's base score?

Nope. Best way is to look at the item properties. With a bit of practive you can get pretty good at summing up the totals points.

As someone in another thread mentioned using the enhanced client there is a MOD that will give you some of this info also.

I have to many issues getting that client to work on my older PC so I just grab the stuff that looks good and do plug it all into a spreadsheet when I get it back to the house to select enhanceable items. The rest I just render down for essances.

Artifacts are an obvious answer, but when we're unraveling for skill and powder/essence is there any type of thing we should NOT unravel, and instead set aside to unravel when we have enough skill to obtain fragments?

I know the mod you mentioned and couldn't get it to work. I tried again to get the mod working and I must say I really like it. The mod combined with your information really helps with obtaining fragments. I've only had one problem so far and that's when a weapon has elemental damage. Enhancing yields essence/ I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but otherwise it's been very accurate.

Certainly.

Here's how I do it.

I typically hunt Miasma, Lissith, Sabrix and stuff like that. I used to do blood dungeon but I got to the point I hate the casters. Balrons ought to give good stuff too.

Loot everthing from the corpse. Remember the day when you opened the corpse and there was a backpack there? I haul it all back to the house on my FIGHTER! When I'm done fighting for the night I commence to rendering.

My FIGHTER stand beside the forge and unravels all the container - OMG - wasn't that cool that they added that? This pulls out the residue without a chance of messing up any possible relic frags. This is going to make 80-90% of all your loot go poof!

Next I log on my imbuer and commence sorting loot. First up is jewelry. Looking at the chart up top you notice that it would take a - let put it mildly - a kick-ass piece of jewelry loot to generate a relic frag. Using chromes calculates we KNOW we can't imbu and create a relic with it. So it would have to be at LEAST 401 points of intensity when we looted it. I find VERY few pieces at that intensity. So as you scan across the the jewelry piece if it doesn't have 5 properties then it's a guaranteed essance. Toss it in the render bag.

Now for those pieces with 5 properties what I do is as follows. I've printed off the spreadsheet which show the max intensity for each property. I then glance back and forth and figure up the numbers. If it's not 401 or greater then I toss it into the render bag.

Next up is cloth, let face it cloth hats, and the various masks got the shaft along with jewelry. It is almost guaranteed that they won't render to a frag, and even if they would, and you were a gargoyle at the queens forge and you didn't have the skill you couldn't render it down anyway - Toss em into the bag.

Metal Armour is up next. Now is starts to get more complicated. Those crazy resists ALWAYS make my life a mess. If look at everything else and see 300+ point, and then 2 high-ish resists. I keep, otherwide into the render bag.

Last up is weapons. Weapons are fairly easy too. The one thing to remember is a spell channel/ no FC penalty weapon only gives 100 points - not 200 like it should. Count up your 100% mods, and take the other intensities and mutiply them up. Hit spells just multiply by 2, swing speed and resists I multiply by 3, etc. Add together like you did before and BAM! Keep or render. The real complexity is with swing speed increase and weapon speed modifying Life Leech and Mana Leech. If it looks good keep it, if not toss it. The worst you're going to loose is a few valorite ingots.

To be honest, I'm not currently imbuing thing up to make a relic frag, I figure it just not worth the effort. In about an hours of hunting I usually get 8-10 relic level pieces and I find that sufficient for my needs and I usually have a few to sell to boot.

Good luck - Let me know if you have more questions.

Elemental Damage no longer figures into the calculation as of the latest patch. Just ignore the %Damage stuff on the weapons.

I guess my question was so confusing nobody understood or replied to it.

So are you saying to keep any intensity 335+ metal weapon or armor because it can be enhanced to yield a relic, if you are a gargoyle at the queens forge?

How does one "enhance"? Someone said with Blacksmithing, but what skill, components, etc are required?

Here's my current system:

If it's less than 350 I throw it in the unravel bag to unravel for essence/residue/skill gain. (I'm up to 70 skill)
If it's 401 intensity or more I set it aside in a special Relic bag to unravel when I hit the appropriate skill (95.1?)
If it's 351-400 intensity I also set it aside in a special bag for use when I understand how enhancing works.

From your description I'm assuming I could lower 350 to 335 for things I keep to enhance.

I farmed Miasma and found some decent stuff. She's such a fast spawn you're better off just going in and asking other players if you can loot their kills that way you don't have to worry about killing her. And you can help out and cure/heal the people killing her, they will appreciate it.

Now Lady Mel, I'm loving her. We did her a few times the other night in Tram and she yielded MULTIPLE relic level pieces. Basically i got 6-10 relic level items in only 3-4 kills. Sweet.

Plus a ton of other stuff to unravel, but I couldn't snag it all- my guildmates would kill me for spending all that time in there checking intensities and looting.
