I can see they're weakest to poison and cold but I don't think a pure mage/scholar has any DD spells for those damage types does it? Next is energy, so what would I use, ebolt?

Harm sucks because you need to be close to these guys for it to do more than 1 dmg. Close to them equals insta death.
Mindblast is not enhanced with Spell Damage Increase, so it sucks to.
Just sucks, these things are way too powerful for what they give as loot, etc.

Yeah, run up into melee range and harm them repeatedly... jk lol
Unfortunately, mind blast doesn't work with slayers, but it does decent dmg to them.
These dragons roll really random resists, so you probably want to try each of your hard hitting slayer spells on each dragon just to see if they rolled low in something like fire or energy. If they roll low in phys, you can hit em with earthquake.

did I say use harm? lol
like I said, ebolts w/ slayer spellbook will get the job done. you just have to have it occupied, as I suggested, or some other clever way (pet, a friend with a kick ass HPR suit, whatever you need to get the shots in). apparently, mages in this game have never tried to kill a Greater Hiryu, huh? we've had training for this "super dragon" ;P, it's called, cold exists but energy is better with a dragon slayer.

, I love to harm fleshrenderers. much more DPS than MB. unless there is a necro, then it's fireball for the whole run.

Dragons is one of the monsters i leave because mages do crap damage to them.
But if you want to take them down whit direct damage spells i would use EB.

I would say the best spell against the new dragon would be:
