What skills need to alter an item?

I am trying to alter my Valorite Bronze Shield, but it saus I may not alter it.... what skill levels do I need? I am 87 blacksmithy lol

Ok I need at least grandmaster.... but can I not alter enhanced items?

You can only enhance and imbue items made out of Iron. Once an item is made out of a colored metal, you can no longer enhance or imbue it.

Pretty sure he is not talked about imbuing, he said alter... as in alter from human to gargoyle armor.

Yeah I am talking about altering a human shield to a gargoyle one.
