I'm not sure if that was meant as sarcasm or not, but I can assure you that I am not a wolf or a sheep. I am someone in between that enjoyed all that UO had to offer at the time, and left when I was ignored by Dev teams of the past.Cloak‡1887122 said:And this post = Not a wolf looking for sheep to slaughter.![]()
I'm sure there were many who were simply not prepared for the UO environment when those things were part of it. I don't think that is the fault of UO though. I think that has more to do with a square peg [the player] trying to fit into a round hole [the game].Cloak‡1887122 said:But yes...It would be nice to have an actually balanced environment, one where tram would not be needed to "keep the peace". Although I am suspicious of how many people have actually ever left uo due to pvp, or pking, there is a need for checks and balances. But I guess everything comes down to what is enjoyed with in a game...and I am just not in the "safety first" party.
I can understand why certain changes were made to appeal to other types of players, but I still don't think that the changes that were made were the right move. I believe that UO was designed and built for a niche market, and wrecklessly manipulating it into something else to appeal to a greater audience (at the time) may have been profitable at first, but I am convinced that it was a mistake in the long term. I may be wrong, but that is my opinion.
That said, sustainability is another problem entirely. The fact is that UO is built on top of ancient technology (literally), so the question of if it is even desired to be sustained is another question. It is possible that the IP might very well have been written off years ago by EA executives, and it is simply running on fumes now. Or not.
I guess we'll see...
