What keeps you still here in UO?

What is it why Peoples still plays this Game? I asked that myself now often in the last days and found till now, no answer. I liked Events but the Events we have in UO are only for Hardcore Freaks who stays 24/7 in Event Channel and refreshes 100000 per Day the EM Homepage, so that they won't miss an 25 Million Gold Event Item. But new Players or Players who came back to UO after a break, don't knows about the Events, we don't even not know what is going on, on those Events. It's just a Book with 1000 Blank Pages. Till now i missed 99% of all Events since i came back and it was not my fault, cause it seems that on Europa, Peoples gets invited to Events through ICQ, MSN ect. I checked really often the EM Page, here the Forums, Event Channel, the News Freak by the EM Building in Britain. So i start to wonder why i miss all Events.

Next was Guilds, i liked it to play together with other Players and make Champs / Peerless .... well i am in a Guild with nearly 300 Members and never see other Members. Ok could be that all other Members stopped to play UO or whatever. But it is kinda crazy.

I liked to make Trades, Vendors ... but on Europa, it seems that Trading is dead, same with Vendors. Since i came back 30 Shops just closed and half of all Luna Vendors are gone. And i came just a few weeks ago back. How will this look like in a few weeks?

It looks like that 50% of all Europa Players stopped to Play UO at once. Or maybe they got Banned or Transfered to other Shards. Ok i thought perhaps the Booster will keep me longer in UO but after i tested it, it was like "some Toys for 1 week". I liked the new Ships but i disliked the new Fishes. It was like 6 different Fishes with 10000 new Names on them. That is not even worth to raise Fishing to 120 Skill. I think 2 or 3 new Bosses, some new Fishes and Ships can't keep Peoples in UO.

So what is left in UO? What keeps you still here?

For most players UO is a chat + loling and Luna bank with your neon hat on.And then doing 124214234124 champs/tough monsters/whatever with 10024324324 HP for another idiotic neon item to lock down in their house and claim they got some legacy and history (they mean that purple neon robe locked in a chest since 2004).

I stay for friends, memories and as a keepsake. Most other mmos out there are just a quick pixel high that will keep you interested until you achieve the highest that you believe you should. UO is more like a getaway that whenever I go to do something I can think back to all the fun times and I can plan to develop more fun memories as long as it still exists. I believe that anyone who quits just doesn't know what they want in an online game. I know what I want and I am perfectly content with logging in now and then to grow some plants, fight someone in a dungeon or at a gate, and then run around aimlessly in the woods looking for something interesting.

Rezme and the rest have said it all.. UO is the only game where I can dictate what I do, who I see, and where I go.
I dont need to jump hoops..... (unless I want to that is)
I dont need to be with tons of people if I feel like quiet play.
I dont need to keep special hours or spend a fortune of real life money to have a few hours fun.
I can build and deco my house my way.......
I can mine, fish, hunt, grow plants, without having alot of hastles
I can talk or not talk to anyone if I so choose...
I can have friends from all over the world without AT&T charging me $$$$
I can be any character I want ether from history,TV, Fiction or just anything my mind can create....
UO has been for ages the place where people came to be free to do as they pleased (within the rules of normal play) 13 years + and I would still play UO nothing against wow doac etc... but UO is home.... it might not be fancy graphics or zoomy grand fighting on ships in space, but it is my fav place to be ME.

Storm, you just about said it perfectly. It isn't about the bling, it's about unwinding and having fun. It's about applying the verbal smack down to knuckleheads in general chat. It's about going against the grain and doing everything the way everyone says it can't be done. It's about being anti-social, in a sociable way. It's about being respectful, kind and generous when most would be nasty and spiteful.

It's about so many things that are fun, and addictive, and silly, and serious. It's about finding good things where no one else bothers to look. It's about refusing to follow the crowd and be like everyone else. It's about all of those things, to me. And to every person that loves the time they've spent in this universe, it will be about other things, some similar, and some completely foreign to me.

No other game like this. Play to your liking. Create whatever template you want. You don't even need to have any combat skills to play this game. If you don't want to PvM, you don't have to, if you don't want PvP, you don't have to, and so on.

Housing, community, this game is freedom.

The trading and shop closing can be attributed to these reasons incase you wondering. 1) Imbuing made everything easily achievable and everything else practicaly worthless. 2) everyone can get everything that matters easily by themselves. 3) loss of a huuge number of vet trammel players. 4) PVM hunting doesn't have much use anymore and mosty all items gained from it are turned into imbuing ingredients. So all the items that people used to trade are gone. In turn this has emptied people houses and needed storage place including stacking reason why nobody really too excited of getting another 20% storage from the ship upgrade so it's like watever. 5) Could be more reasons but thats the top of my head.

Anyway Im still holding on memories, time invested and well why not.

But the most impt one for me is that UO is one of the common hobbies the missus and I share. Wouldn't be even a fraction as fun if my wife didn't play too.

I play for the events, decorating my house and the other odd thing.

OP you mention Europa and the events problem.

Most EM Events are announced 24 hours ahead of time on Europa, So you need only have a quick check of the EM site or forum at 9 or 10pm that night to see what is happening the next day.

An interesting question.

I have Played, and Paid, for 13 years. I love the virtual world that is Sosaria, Britannia to you youngsters. I love the seemingly limitless choices I am given. I love my friends, and those I may soon call friend. I enjoy my Houses, enjoy decorating them. I enjoy my animal friends.

However, I have closed half my accounts and plan to close 3 or 4 more. Moreover, I upgraded only a few accounts to SA, and do NOT plan on adding the Booster to any of my remaining accounts.

In my view EA and the current Dev Team is going in the wrong direction.

I simply have NO interest in following where they are going.

For now, I will concentrate on finishing my Home Decorating and cleaning out item clutter. After that, I will re-evaluate how many accounts to keep open and how many to close. Sadly, I do NOT expect to purchase any more "upgrades" in Booster form.

I never thought I could even consider leaving UO. However, the Dev's seem to take UO a little farther away from me each time they Act.

I hope things change. Sadly, hope seems to be all that is keeping me here. And I begin to doubt that hope in EA will be enough.

Show me one MMORP game that has comparable depth and options. Believe me, I have tested many other MMORPGs and not one of them gets near to UO. I cannot understand why people are leaving this game, maybe it is because of the graphics, but of what use are the coolest graphics if you cannot just place items on the floor, or cook some in-game pizza, or place your own vendors, or display your own stuff, or customize your home...
UO is not another E-Sport game like WoW or Aion, it is a really breathing world, you can build a real second existence there, like in a parallel universe with not up-to-date graphics.

You can make a character with different skills and you can mixe skilles.
And its sanbox game.You can make what ever you want.
And the vendors and the housing is great.
The pvp is great because you can mixe skills at your tempölate and make

I guess second life where you can do what you want, though never played it. Wurm online is also the better sandbox than UO, graphics suck a bit more. UO is the best main stream sandbox though, as there are no real contenders.
