What is wrong with Stratics?

i really wonder what's going on with stratics. first the massive breakdown in performance. then multiple design changes, each one leaving the site unnavigable for days. then the big stratics hack with sql injections, with the goal to hack user accounts. now the front site is broken. performance is still so lousy that i have to reload the forum three to five times before it correctly displays. it takes half a minute to load a forum entry.

i really wonder who manages this site. i know that a lot of people are very dedicated to keep stratics up to date, kudos to them. but those who are technically responsible for stratics seem to be completely lost.

is there any plan to resolve this? or is stratics dying?
please elaborate.

TGN bought it, so it will be absorbed into their site eventually. It seems to have gone from a "surviving" site to a profit making venture.

1. Design changes - the folks who implemented these changes are no longer working for Stratics. They sold the site to TGN w/o any warning.

2. Hack - wth did Stratics have to do with this? Stratics cleaned up the sql injections and patch the vulnerabilities.

3. The problem with uo.stratics.com is was a server issue that is currently being repaired.

Anyone have liks to new UO forums that are not for profit we can migrate to?

Haha, funny. Doubt it will die in 6-12 months. Will likely be around as long as UO is.

I have never have any problem navigating stratics before and after the sale. Did take about a couple minutes to figure everything out the first and only time they made any big changes to navigation though. There have been times when it ran slow but most of the time I find it fine.

Unless you have any proof Stratics is making a profit its wrong to gossip. Almost all news sites or forums like this have adverts, It's what pays the bills.

What's most important is the community and information which is still widely available and I hope this site continues. There are no other fansites like it and I enjoy reading the forums and volunteering here, Long live Stratics!

George is actually a nice guy and I think he'll do some good things for us. Unfortunately, a couple members of George's team crapped up - big time. Sucks that he-who-shall-not-be-named screwed up the transition, but I'm hoping things will run a bit smoother now.

One major thing George did was clean up after the hacking event, which cost him a few sleepless nights.

Stratics has always been for profit, its a business.

There's always www.uoforums.com , which is a great alternative forumwise and while they have 1 temporary ad, they are not for profit at all and their server cost are donated by a loyal user.

Yes.

Incorrect. Ryan (DenDragon) Always owned Stratics and he sold it to TGN. JHall was only inserted as a manager, he was not the owner of Stratics.

Just like EA not having UO listed as one of its games, TGN doesn't list UO on its page. Whatever that says about its commitment is whatever you make it out to be.

the Bold font is pretty global on Stratics, it's not just on the UO section. I thought it was owned by EA, since they always seem to 'fix' things when they are already working well.
I went to the uoforums..., it isn't in bold, but it has a TON less content & resource pages than Stratics, pretty much limited to a forum only.There's a lot of good work going on here at home, I have the patience.

Apparently you don't understand what use a person like Petra is. You see, she's powerful on the forums and the main sight. Since you couldn't figure this out on your own, this means that it's much easier to let someone know there's an inconsistancy or problem with the website, instead of trying to contact one of two completely different systems, sights, and group of people running that.

But I guess you don't go for logic and convience unless it makes UO easier for you.

I've been giving this some thought the last few days. Each time there is a glitch it has an impact on our community. While glitches are bound to happen, lately it has been more often than not.

Stratics has been around for almost as long as UO itself has. On the UOSS side, we've always had the support of a great group of volunteers who enjoy contributing at least as much as actually playing (we hope!). While we have the support of volunteers, it is just as important for us to support them and the players who use this site.

Figuring on the best way to provide support moving forward may present itself as a challenge at times. I'm not sure how everyone sees Stratics, if it's as a timely classic or an old clunker but I see it as somewhere in the middle. Like say a 1976 Ford Mustang Cobra II just sitting in someone's garage waiting to relive it's Farrah Fawcett glory (so shoot me, I was a Charlie's Angels fan )

Stratics has sat idle for awhile now, humming along nicely while we ignore the occasional ping in the engine because it gets us to and back from work. So now we're ready to have someone look under the hood, maybe add a few fuzzy dice for looks and understand that fixing the engine might drain the battery a bit. That is where the community comes in. Keeping the battery charged with your input and understanding while we do some fixin' will help us keep this classic going as well as show gamers outside the UO community that there is much this site as a whole has to offer. This in turn will provide more resources to enable us to provide more content and news for you.

We're all in this for the community and I personally enjoy reading and interacting with everyone here. I want to see us get better and be able to provide more fun stuff for everyone. With Petra in the UOSS drivers seat, I'm sure the end result will be a much sturdier ride
