What is something you miss in UO?

There have been a great many things removed from this game since its creation. Just wondering to hear what you miss, like the thousands line of NPC dialouge that were removed. Things like that.

Personally, I miss when you'd speak the mantra at chaos, lightning would strike you and say something along the lines of "You control your own destiny now".

Probably the OLDEST thing that was removed that I have always missed is Talking While Hidden.

As for recent... well, that is covered in my sig line.

Oddly enough, I actually MISS what is really considered one effect of a bug in the KR client. The bug being that stacked items in your bank box would be counted in your hotbar if you had that item in a hotbar. This had two distinct effects:

1. Told you how much of an item you had on your person and in the bank
2. Made usable items such as bandages unusable when the values updated to show what was in the bank

I miss #1's effect, seeing how much you had total on person and in the bank and regularly used it with my miner for ingots and other characters for gold amounts.

I'd have to say Pre AoS and when having GM skill really mattered, since it was really something that you had GMed a skill...

Hmmm... npcs actually able to talk to you is my biggest. Like ghost beggars. I'm a big fan of immersion, and we do NOT have it.

Tents, while annoying were a useful temporary storage item, and could be interesting used while fighting. But people went crazy with them.

I miss Blackthorn. I'm a fan of the guy. I keep hoping they'll unborgify him and have him return to counter Dawn and Co. Perhaps have him pop in from the new Garg lands, having been imprisoned in that world instead of turned into a machine.

We have always needed two or more groupings of antagonists to make things interesting.

Being able to cut up body parts. I could cut a torso and bow at the same time. Made it look like I was puking my guts out.

Also miss dancing.

This isn't a particularly an old old bug (during the LBR/AOS era I believe), but I miss the teleport to object/unreachable locations bug. I remember stacking hundreds of bandies or gold coins and then teleporting my way to the top.

My fondest memory was performing it at Deceit one day. I stacked coins so high, it appeared as if I was about 2 levels above the altar area. People who ran up into the altar room couldn't see me, but I could see them since I was still on screen (just really high up). I would poision myself, wait for an unsuspecting person to walk into the entrance, and tumble off the stack of gold coins resulting in a rather hilarious death scene for anyone who was unprepared to see it happen. I got a lot of laughs out of the teleport bugs of the old days.

The Original Chest Opening Screen for one...

Also when talking trash to people meant they would follow you out of town and kill you, and take all your stuff to teach you a lesson =)

Fear of other players. Insurance has ruined that completely.

GM's that actually spoke English and did there jobs.

Councilors god I miss that program its why we don't have players any more at least if the GM's are to tied up you could talk to someone. And they could decide if something needed pushed ahead to a GM.

I guess mainly I miss the old hierarchy GM, Seers, Councilors, and the powers they used to have that let them do there jobs. Sure there was a bit of corruption but honestly some more checks and balances in place and it wouldn't matter. At least not nearly as much as all the scripting and duping and stuff has killed the game. I'd much rather have the other stuff back policing things again.

I really miss Chaos/Order. PvP on any facet was the BEST!

Too many people are scared to actually fight solo in factions due to the 20min stat loss.

I hope Sak impliments this once again. *hint hint*

Other than that i don't miss much. Maybe keeping the head of someone.

I miss when GM's would show up and speak with you to find out what the problem was, unlike now where we have GM's who can't read and want to send out same canned response no matter what the page is for.

I hear that one. I always hoped they'd do the old switcheroo comic resurrection with Blackthorn. "OMG THAT WASN'T Blackthorn! It was a magical clockwork being whom was brainwashed into thinking he was Blackthorn so that some random new story line can begin reintroducing Blackthorn! He's been stuck in a crystal and you must venture into it and brave the new crystal cavern dungeons!!!" or some such nonsense.

Magic Reflection actually reflecting magic. It was awesome.

The Bone Knights Wall

The crowd at the N Brit Smithy asking for custom weapons and armor, and repairs.

All the abandoned professions - Scribe, Alchemist, Treasure Hunter and Fisherman all used to be viable professions. Hunter - you could even make a decent living killing animals and selling the hides to tailors. These professions were something that made Ultima Online stand out, and have been totally forgotten.

Being able to figure out what equipment to wear without a degree in Math.

I *don't* miss thieves, or the frequent reverts.

Most of all I miss my noobness...not knowing about UO. Back then everything was a surprise, amazing and entertaining.

Sitting at the Brit smith shop. Chatting, skilling and repairing.

Taming stuff and selling at Brit bank. Seeing every tamable imaginable lined up at the bank.

Picking up everything on the ground!

Never wearing my very best armor or using my very best weapons.

Hunting with 5 White Wyrms. I know it's overpowering but damn fun!

Taming high-end stuff without using Honor, Peace and/or Disco...it felt like a real accomplishment.

When 500k was a fortune!

When you couldn't find a house spot to save your life. When Brit bank, Skara, Vesper Bank, etc. were crowded with peeps.

Although it hurt UO, I miss PH (especially for Imbuing!!!)

I miss the time when I didn't know every last tiny detail about my armor, weapons, jewelry and pets. Objects fell into several broad categories of potency. Pets were: tame it, use it, lose it, replace it. Rinse and repeat.

I don't miss stunning lag and frequent reverts.

Yes, I miss really working a skill through gameplay and having bragging rights when you finally GMed it. Now you hit 120 and its like "ok thats done". And with this, when actual skills determined your effectiveness, not properties on items.
