What is considered good armor?

Just curious what is considered good armor. I don't understand all the % stuff. I understand the increase stuff like HCI, DI, SSI, and the like. But I'm always thrown off by the armor %. What type of % resistances do I want to wear on my suits for fighting things?

I also had a question is say 12% physical resist on a piece of leather, equal to that on 12% physical resist with mail armor? Thanks for any help!

you want to shoot for all 70's especially when you ar going against hi end monsters

12% on leather is the same protection as 12% on mail but with leather you can meditate with mail you cannot unless its mage armor

Basically with the "%" percentage symbol, when you add all of your percentages up, it is as Storm said. You will want to shoot for straight 70's across the board. So:

1. Headgear
2. Neck
3. Chest (body piece)
4. Arms (sleeves)
5. Legs
6. Hands (gloves)

Basically if you averaged 12's straight across on each piece, you would have 72 resist. The resist actually goes over and can come into play when you get hit with certain spells that lower your resist. Namely corpse skin which lowers your resistance to fire...not to mention your poison resist as well.

Also, depending on your other armor options? Resists can come in other forms:

1. Resist from cloak (fire resist namely is the one that comes to mind)
2. Resist from robe (vet reward)
3. Resist from jewelry (doom loot such as ring of the elements, ring of the vile, and aka your own jewelry). There can literally be a plethora of options in this single category.

And...someone else might have a comment for anything else I forgot for different slots.

So resistance is just plain resistance and it doesn't matter the type of armor as long as it has the resist you all sugguested? That would make things a ton easier on me.

Well unfortunately...it isn't THAT easy. For beginning, yes it's that easy. Once you branch out though and are trying to attain certain aspects (like Lower Mana Cost LMC) it can become more difficult.

I don't suggest joining factions to attain armor pieces either. Kind of lame and not much reward in my opinion.

It really in the end depends what you're after. Maximum stamina suit, MR (mana regeneration) armor, whatever, whatever, whatever. That's why everyone is fun to look at in Ultima Online and not so much in other games. Uniqueness...

Yeah you very rarely see anyone that looks just alike. In most other games they all look like clones.

Thats because in most all other games there is a set of items that are the bes and everyone tends to use them.

In uo, for some people, the look of there char can be more important than its effectiveness. Ive known many people who turn down that final piece because it looks wrong, Samurais wearing leather arms for example.

IMHO you can do quite well with all resist at 60+. If your hit with the curse spell (which happens a lot) it will drop all your resist to 60 but not below 60.

Now the other stuff really depends on your template. Mages don't really need hci and fighter types really don't need sdi. I'm always on the look out for an armor piece (at the right price) that can improve my suit or my mods. I don't think I'll ever really "finish" my suit, I always seem to find a little something I can add.

Yeah...pretty good point I have to say. I constantly tinker with my suits on all of my toons. It's actually, rather fun. Even if it is a bit tedious or a bit of a pain in the #$%#$ sometimes.

What "good armor" is is totally dependent upon your needs.

You should learn the properties. They are guides available here at Stratics, on UOGUIDE.com, and on the UO Herald. If you're not clear on something, ask about the specific property you're unclear on.

If you are relatively new, or returning, player, and you are playing a warrior of some kind, I would argue that the resists are mostly what you should be looking for at first. Basically this is so you can survive most monster encounters while you learn the game.

Shoot for all 70s, or at least none below 60.
