What is BlackRock, how does it work?

Trying to convince some friends to try UO/return to UO and try Siege. How do I explain this BlackRock stuff to them? Can they go there at zero/beginner skill? Is it like a dungeon type area? What skills can be trained there? How does it work?

Thanks!

Blackrock was an event many years ago. Its not in effect yet (waiting on dev answer here)

According to Devs, it will not be until fall of this year before they can get working on it. :(

Thanks, but I still know nothing of what it REALLY is. What will the player actually see and do? Are there special monsters/animals there?

I tell them that we have ROT but may soon have a special area to gain skills faster. That doesn't say much. I need specifics.

There were three Blackrock areas located in T2A. They were smallish areas where players could train most skills and gain .01 to .05 per attempt to gain, at the standard RoT intervals. You could gain beyond the RoT caps. You could cast on yourself, hit a partner for a gain or take resources to train with, though you wouldn't want to take a ton of resources out there. It wasn't very useful for taming, mining, fishing and T-hunting and maybe a few other skills I'm not remembering.

I trained detect, tracking, fencing, tactics, healing, chiv and finished bushido and fletching during the blackrock event.

There were Blackrock Elementals there, but they were very difficult to kill.

Blackrock was simply friggin' cool.

Every ROT gain (maybe all gains) was actually variable 0.2-0.5, instead of 0.1 gains.

However, the dev's were damn sneaky. It was only valid in a region around the blackrock elemental spawn areas in T2A, which you can't gate/recall out of.

So, you had to sneak (or run) in there, get your gain, and then sneak (or run) out, hoping you didn't get pk'd.

That was the ultimate fun of it. Risk (getting pk'd - come'on. This is siege.) against reward (perhaps 0.5 gain on whatever skill you are working).

Innumerable times, I'd get a 0.4 hiding gain, only to get pk'd by Krystal, or barely get away from a pk squad.

I risked little, except death, since I carried nothing of value. But it was hilarious none-the-less.

you could mine there so training that was ok too

blackrock was very fun with all the pk and anti-pks running around.

best thing to do is train up hiding and stealth at least temp to work up all your skills there.

the blackrock ellies (and slimes i think) radiated damage so you had to try to stay 5 steps away from them or get revealed.

Some really good fights there. The Pk's can't resist the concentration of people in one spot and the anti-pk''s couldnt resist the ease of finding pk's.

Would be almost as effective as reducing the map in helping to find people.

Krystal is probably drooling at the idea that they might bring it back. :thumbup1:

You know what alicrity scrolls are? Where instead of gaining .1 in a skill... you gain .2 to .5 each time you gain.

You go to this area and gain .2 to .5 each time you gain in a particular skill you are working on. It raises your skills by 2 to 5x's as fast.
