Better put, what is the specific gravity of this shard? I pose the question because some force of attraction brings everyone back here, no matter how much energy spent trying to reach escape velocity. You can tell I am not a rocket surgeon (though I think rockets are cool) or brain scientist (because brains are really icky to look at - just sayin), so I hope someone out there is able to posit a reasonable theory. Thank you in advance!

I have a possible theory, but we need to define some basic terms first:
A) Gravity - A force pulling all matter. The more matter, the more gravity.
B) Mass - The amount of matter in something.
C) Gravity Well - The pull of gravity that a large body in space exerts. The larger the body (the more mass) the more of a gravity well it has.
D) Escape Velocity - The speed that is needed to break free of a gravitational well and leave it without further propulsion.
So... back to the basic question. What is the gravity of this shard? Aside from the obvious answer of 42 (provided by Deep Thought, but that is another story), the answer may be that it is ever moving, growing thus cannot be calculated.
The basic theory.
The evil devs (creators of this particular gaming space and universe) have studied Gravity, Mass, Gravity Wells, and Escape Velocity with a passion. They understand that if they created more Mass (land mass, more weapons, deco, housing, crafting items, etc.) that it would create a larger gravity well that would prevent you from fully escaping. So.... beware of those non-functional holiday gifts, non-stackable items and useless monster loot... they are added with pure evil intent and only add to the gravity well.
If you did happen to escape SP, the other shards were built to keep you in the general orbit of the UO universe and it is only a matter (no pun intended) of time that you would slowly circle back an land on SP.
Since you mentioned that you are no rocket surgeon or brain scientist, the video below may provide some basic enlightenment.
