What do YOU do for residue?

I'm at 98.7, needing to get to 117, and I want to get the residue I need as fast as possible. I can't just buy a ton of oak, make bokutos and unravel. I have to go kill **** for ****. :/

Oh, I make oak bows.

Um, whatever you can kill fast that gives lots of loot is good. Or treasure chests and loot everything in them. Those give gems too.

Bake kitsunes give lots of items, I get a lot of good stuff to imbue and unravel from fairy dragons, but that hurts my karma. I think regular
dragons give good loot and gems...hrm.

Swoops works, or you could sit around and loot night-eyes while everyone else is farming.

Make oak bows and all my adventuring chars run around with unravel bags now. I have a chest just to drop off bags.

Buy several unravel bags and give them to a character than can kill things quickly. Fan dancers die fairly quickly and give a lot of loot. Fill several bags and then log in your imbuer to unravel. I acquired tons of residue this way.

They need to be exceptional oak bows; non-exceptional doesn't work.

I do what other have suggested about having multiple unravel bags. I just drop off the full one and grab an empty till all ten are full.

As for what to kill, for me its been greater and regular dragons since I also need the jewels they carry. If I`m not up for dragon salyin I`ll do some level 6 Tmaps. If ya kill all the spawn and take everything from the chest you`ll have 2 unravel bags almost full and 20-25k gold plus a few jewels (or gems whatever ya wanna call em).

Also play with the Oni or Tsuki wolves for fast kills and lotsa loot.

If you do not have a lumberjack then farming monsters is the only way.

I have done both and I can say that if you are going for residue only, getting oak boards is unreal fast if you have books of fel marked oak tree location compare to killing monsters.

Yes, I know that because I make oak bows to unravel. *points up* :) I have a talisman that gets me to 100% exceptional.

More like if you don't have a carpenter or fletcher. I think I might end up making one, make max + trashcans ought to make it go somewhat easy. Can't be worse than just farming stuff at least.

I killed daemons and succubus in the dojo with my sampire and just loaded bags put on ground and other char came and got them took me about 45 mins to fill up 12 unravel bags.

My suit has a ton of luck and i used the statue i got 30 relics during this process as well.

The oak **** is the easiest way if u dont have runic hammers.

Ender, if you have any intention of using the high end ingredients for imbuing, you have to farm anyway. Carry around an unraveling bag and toss in loot. Hang on to anything you can't unravel because most likely those things will unravel into essence and relics. It is worth it to have gm carpentry and gm fletching though.

I can unravel everything now, I'm just below GM. The only relic fragments I've gotten are from weapons I've saved from looting off of Dread runs. All 3 fragments. <_<

I have like 1500 essence though. Wish I could trade that all in for residue, lol.

*shrug* Oak Bokuto *make make make* unravel (highest chance of exceptional for lowest wood use.)

I have my other chars keep things they used to throw away, so I'll slowly gather more.

It honestly doesn't matter unless you are expecting to legendary imbuing in a week. You'll get what you need as you go, I expect to take a few months to GM it.

I'm hoping to legendary it as soon as possible, I just hit GM. And out of residue again, lol.

But on the other hand I have 3 relic fragments (3 whole fragments!) and like, 1300 enchanted essence. Too bad I can't just trade those for residue. *hint hint*

I GM'd Carpentry from 52 in about 6 hours last week so that I could make myself a soulforge (they were hard to find then). It's ridiculously easy if you have enough wood sitting in your bank box.

I'm sure you could find people to trade you at least 3:1 (3 MR for 1 EE) and probably 5:1 even, since lots of people have lots of MR but need more EE, especially if they're turning it in to get 115s to turn into 120s. What shard are you on?

I got to the Tomb of Kings and kill the cycling seprents and undead (not the shades though if I can stay away from them because instant and constant debuffing SUCKS!).

I loot:

- All gold (which pays for the gems from NPCs)
- All Imbuing material (generally snake skins and undying flesh)
- Gems (generally Spahhires and star sapphires from the serpents)
- Venom vials for dyes
- Quest items (pottery shards, scroll pieces, tomes)
- Any magic item weighing 4 stones or LESS

An example of a trip's outcome is as follows:

40336 gold
16 Sapphire
18 Star sapphire
3 snake skins
4 undying flesh
5 venom vials
5 pottery shards
1 scroll piece
1 untranslated tome
106 items to unravel (unravels to an average of ~180 Residue and ~30 Essence)

Is an unravel bag a special item? Where do they come from?

You buy them from the guys around the soulforge in Royal City in Ter Mur.

The bag allows you to unravel all items at ones that are inside when you use it.

I do a bit of everything.

-Dull copper and Shadow runics.
-Oak bows.
-SoS bottles and T-chest loot.
-Hunting around in the abyss and collect light stuff. Often i go for just jewelry.
-I use the gold from the hunts for buying the gems for training.

I just dusted off a dexer and bought 40 Imbue skill. Can unravel most of the lowly stuff. The stuff out his range I pass off to my real imbuer, saves on locks.

Swoop is slow, I did it for 12 hours on atl one day alone. 12 items every couple of mins. 13 if its some special item.

The arties are nice though since most of them unravel to relics.

I can't remember exactly how many I went through (I have an absurdly large number of boards in storage), but I'd guess it was under 50k.

ive found that the best way if you dont have runics or oak wood is to fill a unravel bag on your main fighters and you can unravel most Residue producing items on a character without any Imbue. I take my dexer out fighting most mini champs and stock a bag of junk magic items i can unravel. If only theyd add a "Loot All" Command.

Actually, this is wrong, or at least not optimal. The highest chance of exceptional with lowest wood use is making oak bows. With a talisman, it's easy to get to 100% exceptional yield (92.5% at GM without a talisman) making bows at 7 wood per. Making bokutos takes 6 per try, with at best with a great talisman about 83% yield (65% at GM without a talisman), making that an average of 7.2 wood per try. Not to mention that you have to sort out the non-exceptional bokutos. So, for wood yield and time investment, oak bows are better.

if you have 60k board in the bank you can, like me, make a gm fletcher in 18 hrs, stand at the right hand entrance to luna bank, fill pack with boards and make bows, target the bower in the shop and sell them as you make them

after i was gm fletcher i used the oak and yew boards i had saved for years, glad i did not and i used the shadow copper hammers, at 100 imbue skill and above to make jingasas and then imbue luck, 1 reside every time, thanks to X of WoY europa for that

Fishing.

I hit legendary last saturday, and most of the residue I used came from unravelled loot from SoS chests. Note: I had been gathering for months. I used the EC, plotted in many SoS at once and just recalled to nearest land and put the boat on the sea, or sailed to the cluster. It may be faster just hunting something, but in addition to the chests you get other useful things as well while fishing.

Fishing eh? thats the best idea i've heard yet. . . hmmmm...

i kill the coil snake down in blighted grove. i can knock him down in about 20 seconds or so and hes LOADED with loot. I do this while killing dryads while i wait for him to spawn. This way, you knock out some mels while yr at it, who, also, has a TON of good loot.

but mostly, its coils. do the multiple unravel bag thing.
heres the thing: coil does lethal poison and mortal wound and is very fast. so.. stay away from the end with teeth.

When SA and imbuing was first announced, I went and bought every runic hammer on Atlantic gold and lower. Since then I converted 2 of my 18x18s into pretty much just storage houses and have them full of items to break down.

As for killing, if I needed to kill something to get stuff to unravel, I would probably do Thrasher. Near constant spawn, good loot, good gold and you can work honor/gain fame/karma at the sametime. All good.

Oak bows, like Sarsmi ... finally have a use for the piles of oak sitting around collecting dust all this time! That and only imbuing an item one time, then unravel - less loss that way.

DC & shadow Hammers, Spined runics, and t-maps.

Spined runics are good because they come from 20-count normal cloth 4-part outfit LBODs. all 4 items, or at worst 3/4 in the case of body sash, bonnet & full apron smalls, can be filled from NPC vendors.

I stockpiled 50+ spined kits after they announced they were adding imbuing - been a great source of residue & essence.

I started with a little over 30k I am currently at 87.x imbuing with about 10k boards to go and about 2k residue in a chest. I've been making oak bows and unraveling them.

I had half a dozen DC and Shadow runics I used, but those ended up giving me a mix of residue and essence. 35k should be close to the mark. You could make it work if you are unraveling items after one imbue to get the most return on your materials. I imbue 10 times before unraveling personally. I'm hoping that oak will at least get me to GM. I have yet to set a plan for my trip from 100 to 120.

Better yet, try imbuing luck on weapons you've made with the DC runic hammers. Then unravel those. You will use fewer residue because the runic made weapons already have intensity versus plain GM made weapons.

better chance of gains for lower resource use too because of the properties the runic puts on.

I just played. Carried around an unraveling bag and just threw all the junk loot I encountered into it. When the bag was full, just went back to soul forge and treated it as a puzzle box looking to imbue at 50% success rate ... afterwards, unravelled. For the most part, the unravelling/imbuing was just a bonus puzzle between adventures.

*shrug* I'm going by MY results, which are:

100% exceptional bows (41) = 85 residue

100% exceptional bokuto (42) = 100 residue.

I'm using batches of 300 oak at a time, (301 for bows.) You get 43 bows per batch,
for bokutos, 85% exceptional, I'm getting roughly 40-45 per batch.

I'll be retesting to be certain, but it looks like bows get you LESS residue on average for the same wood usage.

Or there is a percentage chance of getting an extra few residue for every group you unravel, I'm trying to figure out if it's consistent.
