Here's the booster that they really should do:
$29.99
For your money, you would get:
A 60 day game time code
A new, REAL box, NOT just a download
A REAL CD with the up-to-date clients in it, both the CC and an EC that doesn't look like the end result of when your dog ate a box of crayons and got sick.
ALL of the expansions to date
A Map of Sosaria
UO Cartographer and Razor, which would be made into an approved app
A Charger of the Fallen
A Power Scroll of your choice
An advanced Character Token
A Soulstone Token
The idea is to get new players, not just bleed the older ones for a few extra bucks
Now for the least important thing, the new content:
I could see an Industrial Revolution theme, which would be a good time to make some changes, the most important of which would be to simplify armor resists to just "Physical" and "Elemental" so players don't need a calculator handy to play the game, and make insurance work differently, so that insurance costs and payments would scale according to the point value of the item, and if the player dies, the insured item breaks and the player gets its value in gold, as determined by its point value, with a 700 point item costing 2 million to insure and paying 10 million, but a 100 point item costing maybe 100 gold to insure and paying out 1k. Also, monster loot would shrink to a maximum of just one item per monster, and most would just give gold. That would eventually get rid of the glut of junk that the AOS crew so kindly inflicted on us, and that has been maintained by all the crews since.
Since players would constantly have to replace their stuff, crafting would see an immediate boost. Since there wouldn't be millions of new items entering the game every day, and a lot of items exiting the game, there wouldn't be such a problem with inflation.
Similar to ML, the new expansion would have several smaller new dungeons, instead of one massive one. Each should be different, and some should be more mage-friendly, others more warrior-friendly. AND some of them would be craftsman-friendly, with the monsters weak against lumberjacking or mining, and giving out crafting-related loot.
It should have some new craftables. NOTHING OVERPOWERED!!!!!!!!!! Maybe I need to add a few hundred more exclamation points to get it thru the thick skulls of even a UO dev?
1 on 1 Arenas, where carebear players can participate in PvP without going to Felucca
A Colisseum, where players can watch teams of 2, 3, 5 battle to the death, and even bet gold on the outcome
A real player-run market instead of those crappy things in Magincia.
The idea would be to get out of the post-AOS VERSUS mentality and start getting back to the original concept of building an online WORLD. EA got rid of Garriott and hired a guy who loved Diablo, so he tried to turn UO into Diablo. All of the dev teams after him have done the same. UO isn't Diablo. It's not PVP, PVE, PVM, Player Versus anything. It's supposed to be a COMMUNITY, a WORLD, with good people, bad people, and everything in between.
Garriott dreamed of a day when we could make almost anything in the world of UO ourselves, we would make our own towns, our own shops, our own tools, everything in the whole world would be player crafted. EA turned that dream into a game about killing monsters and each other.
There are a million VERSUS games out there, let's get back to UO's roots and build a place where the community is more important than missions, monsters, dungeons, eye candy, whatever.
