Alot of you probly don't know me on these boards becasue I haven't logged on in a little over a year and the same is true for UO.

I stopped playing just after the 10th aniversary screw up & haven't really played since I've popped in from time to time to see if things have changed but from the looks of it, all the ingame cheating an problems that have plauged this game for years have not been fixed .

I do applaud the dev team for finally doing some stuff in game but its too little to late for me I moved on an figured I'd pop in an say good bye to alot of the people that did know me from playing on chessy & posting on these boards I've closed one account tonight and I'll probly be closeing the other one sometime this weekend.

So any of you that know me from chessy it was fun while it lasted.

And no the only ones getting my stuff are my guildies an friends from chessy.

Oh no, sorry to hear we are losing someone from Chessy. :(

I haven't been back all that long, so I'm not sure if I had the pleasure of meeting you or not, but I wish you many adventures and safe travels in your future!

You survived AOS but is giving up for a screwup during the 10th anni?

Can you refresh my memory as to what screwup is that?

Also, which in game cheating and problems are you talking about? At least highlight it so that the devs knows of the situation.

Most bugs are actually fixed very quickly. Regarding the biggies:

Duping? There was a mass banning recently.

Speedhacking? This is a difficult problem to deal with and is not isolated to UO. How do you stop someone running programs that tell their system to respond faster and behaves like an overclocked PC?

Scripting? Another difficult problem to tackle. Other games have their own versions of bots, as long as there's an advantage to be had, some enterprising players will come up with something. Once the old version is blocked, someone will figure out a way to workaround it or come up with a newer version.

Only good way is in game response/presence by GMs. Which might be a bit labour intensive.

Sorry to hear that you are leaving Leodin...
The veterans should be cherished (not spoiled)...

Great Post, Harlequin.
It points exactly the problems of UO 2008.

my view... wait and see. The devs are slowly turning the ship into their vision of UO... and I like it.

Hi

My names Blesh, I never would have met you, but we're in the same boat.

I don't blame you for wanting to leave, as I've done the same. (my acct closes on friday) I just wanted to pop over and say stash the important stuff. Its possible uo will one day be the game I expect of it, and should I return I want to have the important stuff with me. And some gold too. Lol.

Best of luck in future gaming. Maybe we'll make returning to uo posts someday. I sure hope to see that day.

My philosophy: If it isn't fun for whatever reason, then stop playing.

I, however, am in the other boat. A couple months ago I was so offended by the lack of customer service that I decided to let my current payment be my last. But I kept playing.

Now with the changes which have happened, the changes which are coming, and most importantly the vast improvement with the communications between the Devs and the customers, I'm probably going to pay for my next 6 months as well.

Yes, there are issues that they need to work on (desperately!), but they are still making the game fun for me, doing well with the tools they have (my opinion only, feel free to disagree).

I have no problem with voting with my pocketbook, and have quit for months and years at a time. On my last return, I had nothing to my name but the community (old and new friends alike... I never lost touch with those who still play) got me back to ship-shape in no time at all.

So, whatever you do with your future (both Leodin and Blesh)... enjoy it. I'm sure we'll keep a light on for you.

I fully understand why you'd leave.

I've been gone from UO for nearly a full year and only came back recently this time around.

I'm not sure what the hell is up but since my return (over a week ago) my very steady connection to UO has vanished since I last played. I ping the server and it says my connection is actually better (a 30-50 drop in ping, 0% packetloss) but new found my lag is constantly getting me killed, often pausing for 2-3 seconds which during a fight can be certain death.

I don't know how much of it is actually EA's fault so I can't really blame them but it's bad enough to make me want to vanish once again into the realm of FPS's (as they have servers that are actually in my state, WA). At the very least, it's making playing with the people I know on UO near impossible and very frustrating.

I just don't get it...I also live in WA state and I have no lag. None. 0

You're going to have some level of cheating in any game. I think cheating in UO has gotten a lot better lately and will probably continue to get better.

One thing that really helped with pvp cheating was the KR client. The KR client handles lag much better than the 2d client, so running in the KR client is roughly equivalent to running a speed hack :)

It's great! The only problem with that is the learning curve associated with the KR client.

I don't think I'll ever leave UO... I haven't found another game out there with the depth that UO has. Even the deepest games I've found were easily mastered in about a month and then I'm bored with them. I've been playing UO over 11 yrs and haven't mastered all aspects of it.

I'm with you here! Ive played over 11 years and although my time in UO is considerably less, it has nothing to do with UO and more to do with the fact that I have 7 grandchildren now. When I started playing UO I only had 1 grandchild who was only a year old at that time. He grew up sitting on Nana's knee watching her play UO.

I love the game. There are aspects about it I don't like, and there are changes I hate, but I deal with it. It's the best game I have found.

What big bugs have been fixed??? Becuase I know of some old bugs still not fixed. Like the z axis bug, the ranking system, and getting proxy stuck. Just to name a few and these have all been around for years.

I would rather see someone warp off my screen than run through 5000 bagballs and then a wall at the end of the bagballs...

Ah, sorry have been doing the events and didn't see this.

Biggies that were solved recently (ones that can be considered unbalancing, doesn't include minor ones like the spider silk cloth):

1) A couple of dupes
2) PS in Ish
3) Invul player
4) Housing in guard zones :(
5) Vamp form :(

I remember you, Leo. :) I've been not logging in for about two years now. I still have two accounts but never play. I have plans to sell them but haven't bothered to do it yet. I don't know why I still pay for them. I'm hoping someday soon I can muster the motivation to finally cut all ties. Good luck in whatever you do now. :)

When such small issues like the 5 you mention here are deemed "Big Bugs" and half the players -And all of the Devs- are unable to help with Speedhacks etc or acknowledge that they A)Unbalance the game B)Exist and are widely used, you know the game simply sucks in short. :loser:

And in length, the game itself needs an overhaul in its most basic systems... LOL..

You probably missed the 3rd post, where I mentioned speedhacking. I know it's definitely a biggie and is extremely frustrating :

Quote "Speedhacking? This is a difficult problem to deal with and is not isolated to UO. How do you stop someone running programs that tell their system to respond faster and behaves like an overclocked PC?"

The problem is, certain types of programs they use do not manipulate the client or the packets directly. They boost parts of the processing speed of the entire PC, sometimes by manipulating the cpu cycles. You and I know that something's fishy when we see cheaters zooming past like a rocket and skipping frames, but on a coding level, it's harder to eradicate without affecting legit players. Some of these are legit programs too, which will work on any PC application, be it Microsoft Office or WoW.

For those that manipulate the packets directly, if you think they did not do anything, just google "Mr Tact" and "How Players Cheat in MMOs". Here's an extract of the part on speedhacks:

Speed Hacking

Player sends one move packet per tile of movement.
DON’T DO THIS.
Speed hack #1: send more packets.

Solution: Throttle Movement

Throttled distance over time.
Speed hack #2: When players ran in a circle they bypassed the distance checks.

Solution: Movement Queue

Final solution was to buffer user movement, discarding movement packets when the queue was full.
Was tremendously difficult to get to “feel right”
Still lets players get short bursts (<1 second) of fast movement.
Movement is probably about as good as it’s going to get without rearchitecting.
