Water Barrels

Is there a way to destroy water barrels or to remove them. Players used them to block house placement and they serve no real purpose in the landscapes, except to be an eyesore. I tried using empty water pitchers but they just fill up and the water remains in the barrel. It would be nice if we could just axe them and they would disappear. Just curious.

You have to use the empty water jug about 5 times per full barrel. Fill the jug, empty the jub and repeat....its annoying but it can be done.

Jeeze thats crazy, I thought it use to be like one empty pitcher would do it. The devs need to come up with a quicker way to help the players clear up the landscape like axing them. Thx for the info.

There is code in place to move everything out from under a house footprint when placed, the barrels should be slid out of the way. This was specifically tested to make sure you couldn't block house placement when it was introduced.

on several shards water barrels are used to make paths in player towns and regions. SO yeah in fact they can and do serve a useful purpose.

IC that will be very helpfull for players who want to place a new house. But I was actually bored enough in the game and thought I would take some time to clean up some of the litter (water barrels), that don't go poof after like two hours. But now I can understand why these water barrels are all over the landscape due to the time it takes players to remove them. It would be nice to have a way to remove them by players if thier just out in the open serving no real purpose at all.

Yup i see that in roleplaying and have no problems with those at all, its just recently I started doing some idocs for fun, and realised how many are out thier with no real purpose at all.

Water barrels can hold up to 20 water pitchers-worth of water. Most people who place water barrels use an "infinite water pitcher" that they've filled from a white wave tile in the ocean. These pitchers will empty 20 pitchers-worth at once, so people can drop full, 20-charge water barrels in one click.

Unfortunately, there is no corresponding way to remove a water barrel as quickly or easily. There is a guild on Atlantic which shall remain nameless (I'm sure they'll show up and name themselves about 28930482349 times and try to get you to buy their book) that has a long and storied history of spelling out their initials all over the damn place. Incredibly annoying.

I emptied out all the water barrels around my house by using them to fill pitchers for the Solen Matriarch quest. After all, each trip is 8 pitchers...

it's okay, wait till you have someone pissed off at you for not giving them something they want for free and they start water barreling the inside of your house until you catch them. that's quite enjoyable *sarcasm*

I know reality doesn't often intrude on this game but

1. Go look at a water pitcher.

2. Go look at a barrel.

3. Compare.

You're lucky they only make you empty 20 pitchers' worth from a full barrel.

Would be nice, except players use them for decoration, too. Easiest way to do it, I suppose, would be to make them all empty during server maintenance. Then if you really wanted to keep them around either you lock them down in your house or run around every morning refilling them.

It would indeed be nice if EA/Mythic could make water barrels axeable. Issues remain, however, with water barrels being used for "roleplay" purposes and in order to direct players to some well-known establishment or town.

I do feel that EA/Mythic should make it possible for these establishments to hang up or erect more or less permanent signage in a public place, instead of creating water barrel lines which don't really look all that great anyway.

A proposal therefore comes to mind: EA/Mythic creates a chain-style quest which gives the person doing it a means to erect and create customized player signage - of which the player can choose a custom text and a custom color - which has an attached cost of a provisional amount of gold or items that must be given in exchange for keeping it there.

EA/Mythic Game Masters will automatically be called on to approve of the sign's text before it is erected or allowed to be publicly visible. The player can choose the location, text, and color, but it will be placed only after a Game Master has checked and approved it's text. This would allow EA/Mythic to adopt a preemptive stance on signage, either be polite and serious or don't bother because they know who's creating the signage and can action problem accounts - if required.

During the Thanksgiving event someone placed barrels all over atlantic to mark turkey nest locations (thanks by the way made it much easier to find the nests), I think they are all still out there. They can't be used to block house placement, only to cause that erie feeling to the claustrophobic players...:D

No they don't block anymore they used to.. but they don't anymore which is good. But they still make nice markers for things.... like towns, for rp purpose.

They can also cause lag when placed in large numbers in a small area.

I learned this trick from someone's post on the boards (can't remember who though, sorry) -

Plant bowls have an infinite capacity to store water. So if you really want to clear out the filled barrels, instead of several pitchers, you just need 1 pitcher and a plant bowl fill with soil. No seed required.
