Was the Necro taming of Kitsunes NERF intentional?

You can no longer tame a Bake Kitsune with Necromancer who has a Dark Wolf familiar summoned.

Now you always get the "you can not tame that" message.

Is this intentional or a kludge that should be looked at?

I don't think they ever said they were going to fix it.
But, since kitsune aren't wolves, it makes sense, intentional or no.

Are Kitsune so hard to tame that you need skills besides taming?

It's my understanding that you had to have taming to tame a kitsune, but if you are a necro, you can hold one and control it as long as you have a dark wolf summoned. If you try to control it without the dark wolf summon, it could go wild.
Also, if you are a necro, you would have to have taming on your char to bond the kitsune, but once bonded, you could take taming back off.

Not sure if its been fixed or not because I havent used a kitsune anytime recently.

Kitsune is japanese for Fox not a wolf.
But you can SS on taming lore and tame one and bond it then SS off taming lore and still control one with a wolf familiar out (unless they nerfed that too)

guess the dark wolf is meant to be a novelty rather than have decent use -- back to dire wolves and hell hounds it seems.

It doesn't matter to me if it was intended or not, just that there is NO mention of it at all.

*IF* it wasn't intended for Necros to control Kits in the first place, and all along we've just been reaping this benefit of a previous kludge and they just got around to fixing it - why no mention of it? No little publish notes like "Fixed known issue with Necros being able to tame non-wolf Kitsune".

But there's no mention at all.

A comment from a dev would be greatly appreciated.

I liked the dark wolf having a use besides dealing a nice amount of damage for a familiar... Having a Kitsune was fun. You needed to have a familar which took up a constant pet slot, and kitsunes aren't really teh ubah pwn4g3... I know kitsune is a fox, but they wont let us have Cu's... and the kitsune is probably the closest thing being a decent tameable canine...

you wanna tame them then be a tamer. i'm sorry there isn't a skill called 'Uber-Everything' that lets you have all skills so you never have to work for anything in the game or make new characters or interact with other people.. and i'm sure such a skill will be made soon (though, sampires come close).

but for now, i guess invulnerability is still just beyond your gasp.

Kitsune is vulpine.. wolf is lupine.. doggies, canine.. cu sidhe is a faerie dog, not to be confused with a prairie dog.

You could always go with leather wolves. They take no skill to own and when they attack they summon a pack of others from out of nowhere.. very handy.

Being able to use a creature that's a medium grade tamable does not make you "Invulnerable." You're missing the point actually, Personally, I never really used my kitsune because I never bonded it (Wow, someone actually didn't use a work around to get a perma pet without taming! My god!) I just liked it for the " I haz pet" It gave Dark wolf a use, which is, honestly, what i want more than "All in one class" which I'm not asking for either. I honestly don't think you even read my post, just saw a sentence and decided what my belief was. And to Fink... I was really just getting to "Dark Wolf is particularly useful" and the kitsune was at least a temp tame that could hold it's own.

KONGE!!

I didn't even realise it was you I responded to.. :smooch ..we need to fix you up with a sig! You know I can't read!

Bake Kitsune are actually quite good trained up, and you can have two of them with one slot left over for the dark wolf. I guess that was the issue, people bonding trained bake kitsune? Because two of them together are, of course, doubley good.

As for show-only pets, I still say tamers should be able to "domesticate" an animal, making it just an accessory like a house parrot, but one that can tag along. I suppose you would have to limit it to within reason, eg: a domesticated dragon would be kind of silly.

i've always thought there should've been a wolf that's a step up from the dire wolf (a dread wolf?), which should give the frenzied ostard pack a run for their money. a tamer would arguably benefit the most with 5 of them, and a necro would be not too shabby with 4 of them and a dark wolf.

or better yet, the ability to animate bone wolves, which along with the dark wolf, can be tamed and have pack ability. let these bone wolves out damage the frenzieds by a decent margin, with the balance of course being that you can't heal bonewolves, and that they are vulnerable to undead slayer.

Bone wolves.... for a necromancer... That'd make sense so it's obviously not going to be in the game. But on another note... I don't want the kitsunes to be bondable. Just the ability to have them (ie, if, when you claim a pet, if it requires taming, it checks your taming and if that's not high enough, it debonds... or explodes into tiny pieces ...) and Fink, yes I need a sig. and.... FINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This applies to Fink's post too.

Why apply modern scientific classifications? Wolf --> Dog-like-creature <-- Fox
They're all furry, with 4 legs, tail, and similar facial structures.
