warning. i popped a blue gate but ended up in fel

met a guy at an auction on chessy tonite wanted to buy an eval scroll. i sensed something was up cause he was naked. he put the rune book on the ground and i opened it and popped the luna gate. gate popped up blue. i enter and come out in fel, complete with the music.

i immy popped my book and went to luna, but later on my guildie met up with the same guy, same story and got ganked and looted of his goods he was going to trade.

someone told us after the fact that years ago you could make a blue gate off of a fel rune by dropping a rune into an all fel rune book???

in any event looks like a new scam so beware of trades.

in my case he wanted to pay 16 mln for a 120 eval scroll which should of got my antannae up.

Funny story about this, I had it happen to my pvp character. The ones attempting it must have been new to pvp because I was able to slaughter all 3 of thier jumpers. The ones jumping me were all necro mages and my archer ate them up. So yes it seems there is some type of gate bug.

I have a vague recollection of this happening before. The warning is never use someone else's rune book from the floor.

I'm not sure how it happens, but I think I remember what I read then. I'm not going to post it here though, in case I'm right and it gives too many readers/lurkers ideas.

I don't know why people put an entire runebook on the floor, seems like you're risking 16 runes for the sake of sharing one. That aside, you shouldn't need to share a rune to Luna bank. Everyone should have at least one public moongate rune.

Yes, this situation has come up before and I also vaguely remember reading some details about how it was done back then. Didn't see sufficient details in the OP's post to tell if these incidents happened the same way or not.

in my guildmates case, he went through the gate and there were several guys waiting at the other end. he walked into an e field and was immediately ganked. he lost a neon xmas box.

The guys who ganked him were not from chessy. were pretty active in pvp here and have a good understanding of who's who.

I'll be honest here in my case greed got the best of me. i mean your in an auction, watching things trade and someone comes up and offers a good price for a scroll...

funny thing is after i gated myself back to luna and was waiting for this guy i sold a pair of mace and shields.

so in any event, i posted this to advise the community to beware.

That's how I got a number of free runebooks

But anyways, moral being. If you're going to trade/buy/sell, unless it's a house, there should be no need to follow the other person anywhere. Unless it's through your own runebook to a place you know.

I keep the brunt of my cash on my stealther and have followed people to their houses to purchase certain items off their vendors as it is more convenient that way. If they get cute and pop me into a dungeon, then I can hide fairly easily but this has never happened. It's a blue gate so I go. *shrugs* Now I will be more diligent in which gates I decide to go into or I will empty myself of my possessions beforehand.

Yeah, it's old. When it was rampant on LS, I equipped an uninsured Titan's Hammer on my LJ trying to "sell" it at Brit bank. Less than a minute later I got the same request to gate. I not only took their runebook, I gave it to the GM I paged and let him pay them a visit at their fel gank location. We never heard from them again? *shrugs*
