Vollems and Leather Wolfs

OK I decided to make me a vollem and leather wolf with my GM tinker. The way I understand it, the wolf and vollem can be healed by a tinker using the repair menu. So I headed to ishenar (compassion). Right away two rat archers attacked. The wolf called for help and started losing health. I repaired him with the tinker menu, but his health was failing fast. The delay before I could heal him again was too long and he was dead before the second repair. His helpers expired too. Decided that using my tinker to hunt with them was stupid, so tried to find a way to use the wolf with my GM Mystic Gargoyle. I only have one account. Therefor I must find someone I can trust to transfer the wolf to so I can log out and have them transfer to my gargoyle. This was such a pain, since I am not in a guild and usually play alone.

Tried to make the wolf with my tinker, leaving it in the altered assembly mode. Figures that the gargoyle can't double click to activate the assembly unless he has gm tinker skill too.

Am I missing something here? Are the Vollems, Leather wolfs and scorpions assemblies only able to be activated by a gm tinker even after being created by one? This is just dumb. It takes away the ability to sell these on vendors, as only tinkers would buy. Why would a tinker buy if he could make one himself?

And if Joe blow non-tinker character uses one of the creations, he has to get one transferred to him each time he loses one to battle? This is just dumb too.

Perhaps I am just dumb and have this all wrong. Would someone please enlighten me?

Just at tip, if you are trying to keep your babies alive, the spellweaving spell, gift of renewal will heal them, so you don't need to repair them with a tinker. If your tinker is human you don't even need to put any skill points into it, although it will be more effective if you can get a focus.

As for the rest, well, I'm afraid that's how it has always been. Generally vendors sell kits for tinkered pets like gollems, and if you buy one you will need to get a tinker to make it for you. I like playing solo as well, but there are some things in game that you can't do without some help.

Thanks for your reply. Hard to believe they would put so much programming into something that will never be used. Thank goodness they don't make you have to be a gm blacksmith or tailor to wear gm created armor (using the same logic).

I haven't tested this yet, but it sounds to me like another creation by a Dev that doesn't actually PLAY UO.

I just wish they'd introduce the living creature Vollems as a tamable, perhaps as a "lesser" type that wouldn't be equal to the bonded ones from the crystals (which are effectively reskinned Nightmares that you can't ride)
