VET Back After 8+ Years Seeking Advice

Hail and well met!

It has been awhile, but I have returned to the motherland of Siege. I haven't played UO (except for a quick check-in a few years ago) for 8+ years. Siege was my home my last couple of years on several accounts. I have reactivated my account with my most built up Siege toon and wanted some advice.

Things have a changed a lot! For example, I don't believe "focus" was even a thing back then, and if it did exist, it was worthless. Now I hear it is like the meditation for dexxers, which I am.
I already joined NOOB and they have been a great help and was a nice welcome back. I've spent the last day setting up all my old macros and some new ones. I reactivated my old UOassist account. Thought all my gold had vanished (turns out we don't have stacks of gold sitting in our bank box anymore, lol.). I'm learning about all these new attributes that are bound and can be added to items for different skill and stat boosts. It looks like I am behind a good three expansions, which I plan to purchase shortly.

Anyway, I'd like to post my stats below and ask you for advice on where I should take them. Back in the day, I was pure PvP and really made a "killing", get it? These days, I'm old and plan to do more hunting and exploring, but naturally I will defend my honor to the death when needed. Am I on the right track? Do I simply need to revamp my whole toon? Where do you think I should go from here to meet my goal of being a good dexxer/hunter who has no problem joining in on some good old PvP?

Any other advice also welcome. Thanks!

Anyway, current stats are:
102 STR
101 DEX
27 INT

Skills:
Anatomy 110
Fencing 115
Focus 75 (just started working on this one)
Healing 110
Hiding 100
Resist Spells 77
110 Tactics

Did you check to see if your gold really vanished? I'd be shocked if it did! Try going to a bank and left click on banker to get his context menu then open bank.

or
just say "balance"

Oh no, it was there. It was just a shock at first as back when I played you stored your gold in piles in the bank box. I think at one point we could covert gold in certain amounts to checks. Can't really remember. But yes, my gold is there.

Thanks for the reply.

Not a bad savage template :D.

Do you know what soulstones are? If not definitely something to look into. You will probably want to stone off that hiding for bushido, at least, and raise resist to 120 as just some small advice. There are others who are far more knowledgeable than me at tweaking it further.

Hail and thanks for the reply. Yes, I know about soul stones and was think I may do exactly that, even though I love the hiding skill.

I'm working on resis. Back in the day that skill moved up soooooooo slowly. It seems to be a lot easier now. I got it up a full two points since this morning, without even trying.

Bushido is a new one for me. It didn't exist back then and I know little to nothing about it. I'll look into it.

I should also mention, I always played as a fencer with two handed weapons. Any advice on which two handed weapons are worth using these days, would be helpful. I also use to chug pots when in battle along with using bandaids. Is that still a thing?

Thanks for your reply!

Hello Teufel,

Glad to see your return is going well, and glad you took me up on the suggestion to join NOOB. Here are a few things to keep in mind, some template related and some Siege related:

0. The bulk of your questions will more quickly be answered by UO Guide. Think of it as the wikipedia of UO.

UOGuide - the Ultima Online Encyclopedia

1. Siege is very much a personality shard. I mean that the restriction of one toon per account removes much of the 'anonymity' of places like Atlantic. Keep that in mind at all times. Here reputation, good or bad, has a much larger role in how folks interact with you. With the general decrease in players over the last 8 years, this is more notable than the last time you were here.

2. Dexxers are called that for a reason. Your current stats add up to 230, but the max is 260. You should try to get a +25 stat scroll and a +5 valiant commendation replica to move your stats higher. On top of base stats, you can get bonuses on armor and weapons. Generally dexxers want to push their dex / stamina as high as possible. UO Guide has a calculator for swing speed, you want to check how fast your weapon swings and then push your stat bonuses to get you to that max rate. Anything above that is wasted.

3. For PvM, there are some 'new' changes, PRIMERS. Primers come in 3 levels, and are obtained at champ spawns like powerscrolls. The Fencing Level 3 primer is used to great effect on a ninja / fencing / sampire build. There are useful discussions of this on the Warrior forum on Stratics:

UO Warrior

Primers benefit from REAL skill, not equipment enhanced. But templates built for PvM often struggle against PvP builds. You can use soulstones to move stuff around if you plan to do both.

4. Find a group of folks to play with. Siege is a global shard, so folks are active at just about every hour of the day. Doesn't mean you will ever see them though.

5. I would once again encourage you to not trade or sell ANYTHING until you have really settled in and know both the value of things here and the personalities asking you to trade. Can't stress this enough.

Best of luck, see you in game,

- Calavera

Hail, kind one.

Thanks for the great advice! How much are +25 stat scrolls going for these days? Back then they were uber rare and close to impossible to find. I'm sure that after much of the shard has already used them, they are much easier to come by now.

Thanks a lot and see you in world.

Regards.. *bows*

You could check vendor search, I think the last one I bought was a few months ago for just over 1 million. The +5 valiants come from Exodus and appear with some regularity, roughly the same price range.

Thanks guys. I'm having a lot of fun. The most frustrating part is getting around as I can't gate. The moon gates really help!

Question, I love the new vendor search, but once I get a map fo something I want, how do I locate the vendor? Lol. Thanks!

The name of the vendor is on the map. Generally on Siege the majority of vendors are by moongates or in Magincia or Safe Have or Zento. That isn't always the case, but usually. Once you by some items a few times you will start to remember where they are.

If you ever need help just ask... one thing I would highly suggest is the Brit hub and umbra hub. Many of the teleporters go to the hard to reach vendors and you will learn each one and who carries what just by going through them. I think they are up to 4 floors now of teleporters but I may be wrong. But check it out just north of the Brit moongate
