Very basic (SA) beginner questions...

Hi, just returned from a long summer work holiday, found SA out, patched, and.... was very confused.
Tried to find info on very basic questions but failed so I would be very grateful if someone would enlighten me on the following:

1) First I here so many people complaining that the way to get to ter mur is impossible for crafters...
Erm, since one can mark runes on the "other side", which can be used by all chars: what am I missing here?

2) Is there a quest to turn an existing char into gargoyle? Like human - elf quest? Or do I either have to make a new char (which is not an option for me) or use one of the race change tokens?

3) Imbuing: as far as I understand this is a "stand alone" skill. Is there any need or advantage to train your usual legendary smith/tailor GM tinker/miner/carpenter/arms lore + a little magery in imbuing? Or is it enough to train my second crafter (all other skills) who will be able to unravel and imbue items?

4) Also, I read that gargoyles have some kind of higher imbuing chance which would mean that your imbuer should be a gargoyle to get the best results, correct? BUT I also read that gargoyles have a higher success chance with enhancing. Any proof found yet? Cause this would mean that it is good to turn your blacksmith/tailor into a gargoyle.

Would be very grateful for any info! Thanks,

1. You can recall via runes so its pritty much a none problem!

2. There are race change tokens you get if you buy SA between the 8th-29th September

4. There is a bonus to a gargoyle yes

A) You may have just Imbuing but I believe Imbuing works better with the Mysticism skill. At least that is my understanding.

B) There doesn't appear to be an advantage to train legendary Jack-of-All-Trades with Imbuing other than convenience. I turned my JoAT into a gargoyle for Imbuing purposes. I had to stone off a few skills in order to add Imbue. However, had I used my few remaining brain cells, I would have created a new gargoyle just to imbue armor and weaponry created by my JoAT. I'd probably do the same on my main account just to have a back up but that's further in the future. For now I'm concentrating on the JoAT Imbuer I'm working at the moment. I plan to put things back once I've achieved legendary status in Imbuing though.

I believe Imbuing supports Mysticism, but Mysticism doesn't help Imbuing.

You might check the crafting gumps and see if any of the craftables require Imbuing skill to make. The only craftable that I can think of that does is a soul forge and I believe it is made with carpentry. I suppose you could always soulstone off a skill and put carpentry on your artificer to make soul forges. (Not sure I'd go the other way to move the Imbuing onto a carpenter because if you've gone over 100 in Imbuing, the carpenter would need to eat at least one Imbuing power scroll.) My plan for now is to work imbuing on my characters that currently have 120 smithing, 120 tailoring, 100 Ams Lore, some tinkering and some magery and meditation skill. If they have mining skill, it's being moved off to another character that also has lumberjacking skill, perhaps fishing, and some magery and barding skill.

You should read some of the training guides to see how useful it is to craft various types of items with Exceptional quality and out of various materials to determine if that will be a viable option for you for getting magical residue or enchanted essence for training Imbuing. I think the decision to go that route is very much dependent on what you already have in the way of skills (i.e., a crafting skill along with arms lore skill) AND materials, or whether you might actually enjoy going out and hunting up a lot of loot and storing it in your house or on a boat until your artificer can grab it by the bagful to unravel it for residue and essence.

Perhaps you can do some more reading in the UO Craftsman forum to get some better ideas on how to proceed.

Thank you Tina.

After reading your post, I realise just how lacking my post is. LOL

But then, that's why there's folks like you who have all the details stored in neat little guides for folks like me who suffer attacks of forgetfullness from time to time. :-/ lol
