Value of mining

I recently restarted the playing UO on Pacific and decided to make a miner in order to get some start up money before making other characters. I am curious if any of the mining resources are worth anything any more (Ingots, ML Gems)? It seems i rarely see them for sale, and when I do they dont have the value they once did. Is there still value in these items? If so, could someone give me some prices for them on Pac. If not, should i use them for clean up points?

Thanks

I think there will always be some value for ingots. Long gone are the days where actually using them to make things to sell though. I assume now most ingots are getting used for BODs. I don't know about Pac, but on Chessy, there are comodity vendors in New Maginicia that buy/sell ingots. The going "buy" price is ~9gp/iron up to 900ish per valorite, with the prices of the coloreds indicating their demand.

Maybe you can find a similar comodity vendor on your shard?

Another thing to look into is maybe making arrows/bolts for sale? Ammo is pretty pricey these days it seems, and pretty easy to come buy a fair number of logs/feathers pretty quickly.

Like Tuan said Bods for the runics and the powders is the main use for ingots and some enhancing gems for imbuing.

I expect that the up coming (next month) Vendor Search will help people like you out. Because it will allow you to set up a vendor whereever you want, and sell stuff, and as long as you have the best price, people will come buy it. Well, unless you happen to want to set a vendor in Fel - I am constantly amazed by the number of people who seem to patently refuse to set foot in Felucca.
The main problem with trying to be a beginner and do BODs to earn your keep, is you first have to burn the 100k or whatever the number is ingots it'll take you to get to 100 smithy so you can fill the deeds to get the powders / hammers etc.

I will say that going the tailor route might be best. I think it takes something like 60k cloth and 10k leather to get to 100 tailoring. Its a bit of a slog sometimes, but once you get rolling you can turn profits pretty easily on the runic kits.

For instance, the going price for spamming that you're selling barbed kits in chat right now on chessy is about 2.5-3.5m per kit. Even assuming that you don't have a fighter capable of collecting barbed leather, at 100 tailor it takes about 1500 hides to fill the studded LBOD, less to fill the leather armor ones, and just skip bone armor. The going price for barbed hides now is around 400/hide though I'm sure you can do better. So thats 600k in raw materials, plus maybe another few hundred K in bribing things up, so we'll say that it might cost you 1M to make a barbed kit. Then sell it for 3M...

Once you get a decent adventurer, you can collect your own hides. Get a 120 tailor scroll to reduce raw material costs, and you're basically a gold factory...
