Hi,

I've managed to acquire a barbed runic kit and I was wondering what is the optimum 'state' to get my character in before I attempt to use it? I'm guessing 120 tailoring is almost a given, but what is a realistic talisman goal to shoot for? What is the bare minimum in terms of exceptional increase you would take before burning a runic kit?

Also, I know a few holes in my suit I want to plug, but *generally* speaking, what are the best leather items to make for a mage PVP suit if you consider the most popular artifacts?

Apologies if these questions are a bit simple, I've just returned after a long break.

My crafty chars use tali's of 25-28 EXP, the cap I believe is 30, but mid 20's are easy to come by in Heartwood trash or can be bought cheaply on vendors.

I would also strongly recommend GM Arms Lore for the extra 5 random resists it adds. You can soulstone the skill and transfer it to smith/tinker/carp/fletcher as well.

PVP - no idea, I am a trammie:) For resale purposes though, I would suggest gloves because a smith cannot make samurai mage-use plate for hands...

1) Talismans arent neccessary, you can always make normal leather armour and be 100%success 100%exceptional. You gain no extra boost by tailoring the samurai expansion(mempos eg) armour.

2)GM arms lore is a MUST

3)Leather armour for PvP is almost impossible to hit, the base resists are low in general, meaning you need to use more of the availabe mods on resist. However, Fire and poison are usually the lowest of resist types. So, if you intend to make armour, horned is usually the way to go.

4)Gloves would be the only viable re-sale pieces due to faction suits encorporating the faction crystaline and no longer needing the inquisitors. For a non faction mage you would be looking to make arms legs and gorgets. Gorgets seem to hit the best mods(in my experience).

5) GOOD LUCK I hope the RNG is in your favour.

Most items that people will want crafted with runics are 100% at 120 skill without a talisman; the only possible exceptions would be if someone wants a Leaf suit for RP purposes, as opposed to normal leather, and those only require a 15% Exceptional bonus to reach 100%.

Talismans really only come into play, when crafting to fill BODs to GET runics, as Studded & Bone pieces (2 LBODs for which give barbed kits, and many more give CBDs and horned kits) mostly fall short of 100% Exceptional even with a +30% Exceptional talisman (and the Bone Armor torso, itself, is 98% to make normal without a talisman - the only tailor item not 100% to craft normal at 120 skill).

I'm going to disagree with you; but only slightly. Barbed still gives the most base resists (by 1 point) over horned. When making Barbed Runic Armor, the base resists are important, but the real important part of making great armor is getting the Runic bonuses to hit on the right resists.
