I guess I'd most like to see them announce a new expansion. I've really enjoyed the new stuff from SA (yeah yeah, I know there's complaints about mysticism and imbuing and how throwing doesn't work, and personally I really hate flapping wings) and believe it or not, it's been out almost a year.

I think the announcement will be something smaller though, maybe rebuilding Magincia or something like that. I'm eager to learn what 13th year rewards are, but I don't believe that could possibly be considered a major announcement.

My only objection to an expansion pack is, quite frankly, UO is too underpopulated for more land mass. There's just too much for too few players that spreads them out far too thinly. You can go days in the original lands without ever seeing a soul. We really don't need more of that.

I personally spent about a week playing in Trinsic - Filling BoD's, running to the bank, selling stuff.. Literally never leaving the city. The only person I ever saw was a guy who was clearly recall mining or harvesting. Recalls the same spot, recalls out... 30 seconds later, he's back.. And I didn't even see THAT person for much more than a couple of hours.

It's a bit depressing.

My guess:

"Netdragon" project detailed: retooling (again) of KR/SA client by a group used to working with fully 3D MMO engines; result is fully 3D KR/SA engine that runs much better, done in visual style of the classic UO.

And the reason they so suddenly decided to hold the town hall is their work bore fruit much earlier than expected.


Of course, this is all just my guess... but my guesses have been right on these "announcements" about 3/4 of the time.

I would hope the big news would be a hugh campagin to bring people back to UO..
Followed by a Contest to rebuild Maginica.
An anouncement giving the date for the dicision of the making of a classic shard.
Open accounts back to 1 house per shard per account (due to shard closures/mergers).
Vet rewards and the New Arena's round out the evenings anouncements.

I know its not any of this but its what people are talking about.
Yes some are talking of classic shard, some are worried their shard is so low in population that they will soon be on the chopping block. Alot here hope they talk of the ways the scripters will meet their ends.
Its my wish they put UO back in stores on a cd... expantions... no the work it would take for them to do something along that avenue would pull from what is now working which is fixing the past mistakes which we need desperately. The freedom of placing a house and not worring about muffing up what you have in my book would help to ease up things as well for Siege as well as other shards who have people wanting a dual base to play from but cant aford more accounts.

You watch the BIG news wont have anything to do with any thing we think of...

I'd be fine with a F2P model, if it's well done, it could actually help UO survive a few years longer.

But if I had to be realistic, I think it's just gonna be the classic server to cater to the UO Hall whiners.
I'm not very exiceted about the classic server. It's going to be somewhere in the US, so my ping's going to suck, also I'm too pampered by the artis and imbuing goodness to go through all the grind again. I'd probably play there a few days and then go happily back to my home shard.

other than attracting new players, what would F2P benefit the current players? I mean most players would want to keep full access so we'd keep payin to play.


Maybe theyd reveal some way to get your account vet status faster? or make all full accounts have the 720 skill cap at least. perhaps shorten the length of time between vet reward choices? as in, get 1 pick each 6 months instead of 1 a year.

An expansion? We just got one, so I doubt it.

If I lived close enough, I would definitely go, just to see and meet the Devs, the staff, and the other players. But I wouldn't spend the time and money to hear the announcement. I remember the last town hall, Jeremey was hyping it up big talking about a huge announcement they were making. Turns out it was that they were working on KR, LOL, which had been announced a year earlier??/ *shakes head*

Be interesting to hear anyway, hope WRR has a good spot and good sound feeds =)

The dream townhall would be a reunion effort, the old and new devs all there and reminiscing and talking about remember when and what if. Has to include Leurocian, Wilki, Draconi, and Darkscribe!!

I don't think they have to necessarily add land to have a content expansion. There are lots of ways they could go about it. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I think key is Cal's recent statement about whatever they do it has to make sense within UO's business model. I know he was referring to the classic shard, but this translates to anything Mythic undertakes. F2P, classic shard, expansion, shard mergers, boxed games at Walmart, gates between shards, whatever... it's got to draw increased (or at least sustain) UO's revenue stream for it to be viable.

It will be F2P + expansion.

Siege is the Classic shard. No one is forcing anyone to use AOS items there. Just like no one forced anyone to use vanq/invul items during the Classic era.

The Classic shard is just a permanent carrot dangled on a stick. They will never make a Classic shard, just as they will never also say they will never make a Classic shard.

I am sure they want to - and have plenty of marketing people - but you'll never get the merchants to give up valuable shelf-space for a 13 year old game when they could be stocking the latest WoW expansion, Star Craft II, or Civ 5.

I could see a logic behind F2P for the classic server, if it ever goes ahead. I don't like the idea of the main game going F2P - I consider the whole term to be deceitful tbh, since you still have to pay cash to get anywhere substantial in most of the existing 'F2P' games.

Before Mythic took over EA considered making UO f2p.
And f2p only really makes sense with AOS+ shards as with f2p you try to sell items and classic shards are not really that good for that.

As you do in UO already if you join today. You have to pay for money, rewards, etc.

The "program that shall not be named" has been purchased by Mythic and will be incorporated into the new 3D client. The scripts/macros for it will have to be purchased from UOGameCodes and cannot be modified.
