UO Targetting...whats the deal?!?

Ok so after multiple failed attempts at trying to make UO's targetting system work, I give up and turn to the boards.

Right now I have a key set for "TargetNext" which allows me to cycle through all monsters/players/animals fairly quickly. I have my UOA macro "wheel mouse UP" set as Last Target. What I cannot figure out is how I can have each individual target I cycle through be the so called "Last Target", also if there is any way to pull up each target's bar? Basically, I want to be able to hold down a key to cycle through targets when I'm in a field PVP fight, when I see the right one, i just cast and hit my mouse wheel up...and viola, my spell hits my chosen target. Seems like a simple concept right?! I cannot figure out the stupid macros and its driving my nuts.

In a nutshell:

1.) Wheel-mouse UP = Last Target
2.) "C" = cycle through targets
3.) Need to pull up bars during cycling through targets
4.) Need to set Last Target

I've tried multiple combinations of SelectNext, SelectPrevious, SelectNearest, CurrentTarget, AttackSelected, UseSelectedTarget and none of them will work. Please help, if you can give me the sequence I need in the pulldown bars in UO, or a UOA macro I could use, I'd appreciate it. I hate having to sit still in a fight, hit my Shift+Cntrl to see all the names then try to click and drag the person's bar before they run off screen. Thanks for any help.

The UO client's native last target is set when you use the advanced targetting function (target next, select nearest hostile etc) to bring up the HP bars of your last target. Unfortunately, the UO client don't allow you to bind a macro to MW Up/Down.

However, I believe UOA's last target is not affected by the above. It is only set when you use your cursor to physically target something.

To do what you want, you need to use the UO client's native last target. Bind it to a key - eg Page up. Then configure your mouse program to replace the normal MW Up function with a keypress "Page up" whenever you are in UO.

Forgot 1 thing - you need to enable the advanced targetting feature in your options first.

My earlier post was just explaining how to use the mousewheel to call up UO's native last target.

The two targeting systems in 2d both have things that work, things that should work and things that suck.

a How to for the older targeting system.
http://oev.hilands.com/tips-targetingsystem.html

I use the old one as the range of 18 tiles every direction works. When someone runs off screen and comes back on the targeting health bar is still on the target. You can only cycle next target or use a skill like eval or use an item that selects the target to choose a target for last target and attack last.

The new targeting system has some great features, with selection of cycling forward and backwards, mobiles, hostiles (which have to flag you.. nothing thats player non guild....).
The range is limited the diagonal distances are like 12 instead of 18 in some directions and different in others its really weird. Targets don't always stick if they run off the screen and come back.

Thank you Harlequin!!

And AttackLast actually makes you go hostile on your last target...not required when playing a mage, but will use on my dexxer.

Now I have it where I can cycle through targets pressing "C", I can then cast a spell, hit "Spacebar" for UO-bound LastTarget, then the subsequent castings I can use my MW-UP for UOA-bound LastTarget. Just wish I could skip the Spacebar step and go straight to casting on LastTarget with my MW-UP UOA macro...

Is there anyway to bring up the Last Target's big health bar instead of jus the mini-bar under the player's char?

@Lyconis

That's actually very helpful!

I now need to hijack this post for my own question, the select next hostile macro only selects those creatures that has aggro'd me. The select next mobile selects everything including blues and guildies. There's also a select guildmate option.

Has anyone found out if there is some way to select red or grey mobiles only? I want to attack them before they attack me, but don't want to attack my guildie...

Welcome!

Actually, I was suggesting that you use only the default UO last target instead of UOA's last target hehe

If you have an intelli mouse, razor or another mouse that has a program which allows you to remap the mouse functions, just reconfigure it to press the page up (or the space bar in your currect case) key when you scroll up in UO.

I haven't played with the "new targeting system" for maybe a year. I reported a ton of bugs and requests when it first came out including things to fix range and other oddities. They did fix the crashing bug when you cycled too fast that killed me tons.

Never found a way to select none guildies, only blues, only reds, or only grays.

that's exactly what I tried to make a macro for as well. Played around with them for hours only to come to the conclusion it doesn't seem to be possible. Since select hostile needs you to be flagged first (and doesn't seem very reliable for a number of flaws), and select mobile targets everything mobile regardless there seems to be no way in doing a macro like that. We'd need something like 'select attackable (non criminal act)'

I haven't tried with just spacebar, but I have my hiding macro set to ctrl + space since 1997, still working fine...

Yes, I think it would be a good enhancement!

I use space bar for my hiding too - just space bar, and haven't ever had it reset on me - dunno why yours does rock, sorry!
