UO Stratics concerns...

- Granted, these issues are probably well known...

1 When I look into a thread, often times the banner ads keep cycling and keep me from viewing the thread at that time. X Oops, not the banner ads but the ads embedded in the threads, I think.

2 The database error that blocks us from accessing the board.

Not sure if there are other issues with the TGN changes (at least that's when I feel it started happening) but those two issues alone make me wonder how many users may not be participating on UO Stratics as much as they used to. I know I've been quite busy this year, but I also know I have wanted to post a reply at times and been unable to (due to 1st issue) and have not even bothered looking here at other times (due to 2nd issue).

Anyone else having similar thoughts about the stability of this great website and how it might hamper the growth of our little community?

I'm hopeful that these problems will be resolved, and I'm sure I might hear something to that affect; but my main question/thought is within the question I just asked. Thx.

Getting a little sick of this when it happens. Its been more frequent the past 2 months. Making it big and red so they can see the error I get.

I believe that the ads embedded in the thread only appear if you are not logged in. Just log on in to avoid this.

On the database errors, I am not techie enough to know anything about the cause, etc. - but I do know that they are being worked on.

I had just submiited a reply to another post. Then the error screen came up. I am surprised that it even let the reply go through even though I had no more access to stratics. I tried all 3 options they had on there still got the error database. I even closed the browser still had the error. Use Ccleaner and cleaned cookies and all the jazz still had error. Waited a few mins then tried again I could finally access stratics again. This is common when I get these errors. Its not everyday but I say in the past 2 months I have had 20 different times these errors pop up.

The database errors relate to cache overload. We need more space.

- Hail Tazar, I'm thinking the same about the first issue. But I'm in-and-out a a lot and also tend to close my web viewing device(s) often these days. Yet that certainly seems to be a viable solution, for the many of us that have accounts. As for the second issue, that is good to hear and I do remain hopeful

Not sure how often this one happens, but the time seems to be somewhere around 30 minutes off right now as well; maybe I just haven't paid attention to that much lately and it's been happening ever since the others had popped up.

Another one that gets me is the delay in updating the 'last post' on the UO Stratics Forums' main page that displays the list of forums. What's the point in showing a 'last post' if it is actually the last post several X minutes ago?

Heh, this isn't 'game-killing' stuff; but it is annoying and I do wonder how many people it might keep from participating more actively; I assume it is Stratics / TGN -wide..

It's only Stratics wide, oddly enough. TGN domains still seem to work during Stratics outages. To be fair, Stratics servers get a lot more hits than TGN servers.

Hi guys,

Apologies for the database errors! As Syrus of Gahd said, we are hitting our server limits for max number of database connections, and the cache can't keep up.

There is a server hardware upgrade coming, and we are tweaking the MySQL settings to eliminate these problems. Only the stratics.com domain is affected because it is on its own server. The other sites, like www.tgntimes.com, share a different server (and get much less traffic!)
