Is there any chance of this happening? Has there been any talk about this, ever?

I can't imagine playing on something so small... would definitely take some patience...

Not to mention the fact that you can't get UO on anything Apple without a partitioned HD with Windows. Not sure the iphone can do that. I'd settle for them just writing UO for mac... whoohoo... that would rock!

Nah, out of the 53 people that currently play UO, 4 of them own iPhones, and probably only .3 of those 4 would use this feature. Bottom line is, the manpower to follow through this, even if it was few days worth, wouldn't be worth the investment for EA, that's not including the follow-up issues and maintaining it.

Considering UO isnt even made for mac, this is far from happening, they would have made UO compatible for mac long ago before engaging in the iPhone.

However, maybe there is a 3rd party that might create it, maybe there is a commited group of UO nerds somewhere already working on this... who knows.

I have an i-Touch, and have been considering egtting an i-phone. If they had a UO application that let you play UO on your i-Phone, that would be enough to tip the scale right there... I would run out and buy one today.

I know that they do have programs on the i-phone that allow you to access your home computer and operate it from your phone... so I guess it is already possible to do. I just dont know that it would be very easy to play on. If I do decide to go switch carriers and get an i-Phone this is the first thing I will look into. Even if all I could do was get on through my home computer and organize my house, I would still love it.

I'd say the iphone has one of the largest screens within 'mobile phones' and even then its too small to play UO (imo) so I doubt we'll ever see this!

Id rather like to see UO on the ps3 or Xbox 360.
It would need an extension keyboard : [

UO has soo many different keys that are useful. The PvP game play on an Xbox or PS3 would just be horrid. That's just my logical opinion based towards PvP and player interaction.

I dont know about the 360, but on the ps3 u can hook up a keyboard and mouse into the usb ports and run it like a regular PC. I dont know how this would affect the pvp, cuz it would be like playing on the comp, just on your tv...

That's true , but then what's the point of playing it on the PS3.. or buying the disc again ?? I would imagine a desktop or laptop would have more power than a console making the game run faster and etc.

TLDR; What is the logical point of console integration??

I don't know, I'm pretty sure I could set up an xbox controller to play an archer. It's pretty easy.

And you can play UO from an iphone, you just have to VNC to a desktop that is running. Even then you can't really do much in terms of movement.

I have done this with my WinMo device and RDP/TS... same results and VNC it sounds like. You can look, but moving around can be a challenge and trying to PvE... yikes! PvP you would be just plain silly.

While playing UO on an iPhone or any mobile device would be cool I think you are better off with a cheap PC notebook to get your fix... at least with current technology.

I have an iphone and there is no way I would try to actually PLAY UO on the thing, I think it would be a nightmare.

My macros on my phone???

Serious? My necro and dexxer require the whole left side of the keyboard.
That would be hellish and painful.

You actually already can play UO on an iphone if you use a remote pc app and then run uo from the computer your remoting into. It's really laggy and at least with the app i have you can't type so you can only perform actions that only require the keyboard (works good for bank sitting) But its a start i guess...

I think Iphone (or other smartphones) could be an excellent platform for UO. UO has the depth to be able to tap into the world in different ways.

First thing that popped into my mind is UO is probably the same res as an iphone display anyway.

You could, however, also imagine things like caring for plants from your smartphone, or crafting... tending vendors.

Shame the UO playerbase has so many people still on 56k and unable to look into the future past their wooden zx-80's because I am a strong believer in UO's potential. But I suppose EA doesn't believe in it either :(

According to apples website the iphone has a resolution of 480x320. Little smaller than even the smallest UO setting, let alone being able to fit your paperdoll or bag onto the screen.

You'd have a better chance of getting it to work on Android. Apple uses a Hybrid Kernel as the root of their OS' and have them run on a Darwin Foundation which combines NeXTSTEP, BSD and a few other things in the mix. Since parts of the OS are proprietary it would be harder to develop a Windows compatibility layer for the iPhone. Alternately Android uses a Linux Kernel which means it would be easier to adapt it to support the use of WINE which UO runs just fine on, after all Android is just a Linux Distro targeting Mobile Devices.

I'd look for Android to support something like UO long before I would the iPhone OS.

Actually working on a mobile version of Ultima would be a smart move, there’s already an application for WoW and it’s only a matter of time before someone develops a real mmo for phones / handhelds. There’s quite a few text based mmo’s for the iphone already.

Even a stripped down version of UO that may only let you work / train skills or craft would still be a good place to start. Plus it would bring in new players who are looking for a portable mmo they can play.

It’s too bad that EA has these forward thinking ideas like developing a mobile version of UO in 2003, but they never actually complete it.

Netbooks would be easy enough, I know most now have like what 160GB HDD's? Even the older first GEN Netbooks that came with limited HDD Capacity (usually 4GB or so SSD's) mainly just for the OS would be able to run UO if you place a copy of it on a SD Card which most have slots for.

I'm still a big support of having Linux Installs on NetBooks, be it Ubuntu, Fedora, openSUSE, FreeBSD, or even Puppy Linux. They are much less resource intensive than Windows and you can get a lot of your more popular games to run on Linux without too much hassle. UO, WoW both run really well, and with some of the improvements in WINE you can even get Ventrilo to run without too much hassle.

The reason id want to play it on the ps3, is cuz itd be cool to play on my big screen tv. And im not worried bout the ps3 making the game any slower than my PC...Im pretty sure that the ps3 would be able to handle all these intense graphics! If it can play all the high-graphic games with no bit of lag, even online, i think it can handle the 2d grahpics of uo...

Yes... Sadly.. This the ONLY logical reason to have UO on a smart phone/iphone..... Let this thread die!!! It's illogical , it's taint! Burn it! WITH FIRE!
