These are the biggest problem with UO , players want it all , but not willing to give up anything to make changes for the better:

1. How could UO attract MANY more players? :

http://vboards.stratics.com/showthread.php?t=639

2. Should the Skill Point Cap Be Raised?

http://vboards.stratics.com/showthread.php?t=636

3. Bring back old school thieves?

http://vboards.stratics.com/showthread.php?t=814

4. What would you like to see for sale at UO store?

http://vboards.stratics.com/showthread.php?t=2089

5. See my Siggy for that other issue we cant talk about...See how many players would return...

I'll post the same thing I posted in one of the other threads. UO can't compete with modern games if it's doing the same thing. It must be unique. However, the devs seem to be taking it in the direction of other games, which is, I think, not good for UO. We also have the problem that so many players of UO (trammel players especially) are the ones who want UO be like other games. I think UO should be made into a great PvP game. Most games out today are "carebear" games and if UO tries to compete with them, it will fail. Of course, how many trammel players will allow that to happen?:(

I think making the towns more active would be a start. Not saying it will be a fix but a start. The towns are to DEAD. Add a casino or something to bring people in and a money sink. Heck I would gamble.

I have to agree that making UO resemble other popular games is not the best idea. I would love to see an UO2 come out that draws on what they learned from UO and betters it.

I once read a quote from a development company that investors always wanted to know how new games would be like World of Warcraft when investing. In my opinion, they were asking the wrong question. The question that should be asked is what the game has that WoW does not. If people want to play a game with very decent graphics but absolutely no content (other than running in loops in the same places over and over) then they will play WoW. If they want to play a game with content that might not have the best graphics then they will play UO. Some gamers are all about the graphics, but some (including the newer generations) will still pick up old Nintendo and Super Nintendo games because back before games came all about making the pixels look better they used to actually focus on making the game fun.

Raising the skill cap as well as bringing back more function to the thief class are IMO both craptastic. Why? With 720 skill points, skill jewels, and skill armor I can already break 900 points. In addition any more skill pionts will make for increased outcries of *nerf*. Current templates will become non-viable, and the new templates would be far too overpowered. (right now at 720 cap players almost have enough room to make their character godlike, however teh 720 cap keeps this in balance by not allowing it.) Keep in mind how long it took last time to bring things to a more even level from a PvP standpoint. (yes, I realize not everyone PvPs however you ahve to look at both sides of the coin before making changes.) AoS came out in what...03? SE in 04? We finally had nerfs to necro and sammi/ninja 6 monthes ago? That leaves a gap of 4 to 5 years for the nerfs. I really dont think UO could last that long without balance this time around.

The thief class? Well, I honestly feel it should be scrapped altogether. Griefing in this game has gone above and beyond rediculous. (which should seem evident to you if you are paying ANY sort of attention to the forums.) The only reason to play a thief in fel is to grief other players...which was alright in the game the first few years, but with a declining player base instead of rising player base the last thing we need to do is give players another reason to leave. Yes, griefing DOES INDEED give players a reason to go. I would honestly rather see this scrapped to help the community start to come together again, rather than giving it reason to fall apart.

As long as EA calls the shots I dont think we will ever see UO2. Its like EA is a lunch guest and UO2 is his meal. Once a speck of food falls off the plate the guest is more than likely going to chuck the whole plate...rather than enjoy what still remains.

Too much money in the game and not enough new players!
Too many old players with too much money.
Too many homes and too many large homes too close together.
Too many Shards now; not near the amount of players as before.
Too many changes that cant be undone with out major outcries.
Too much Junk we are ticked into keeping: collectables are only collectable if there in short suppy or in high demand. Seeing as we dont have a stream of new players, collectables become less valuable.
There needs to be some in game goal or some overwhealming situation to make players come together.

Lastly; Speed needs to the flat lined to be the same for every player!
my short list

Why would any business venture that is "wildly profitable," a term which is rarely used, need to change all that much?

o0oo they made the changes to get to current situation; they can make the changes to get back on target.
AND.....
Because, Business are in business to make money, not lose money.
As a Business that is not private; has a board they have to answer to, not to mention the stock holders.
so, most business that like making money listen to there customers with in reason. I do belive these changes are with normal reasons.
I think most would agree they lost more customer with the changes they made so far...so one might say.... Your Fired!
would'nt you?

I use the term "Changes" losely , because some changes were for good. Obviously most were way wrong, now looking back.

You responded to my post.

You quoted my post in your response.

However, the actual content of your post simply makes no sense as a response to mine.

Please clarify.

*shrugs*

Do you think that the Mythic rep in the interview is lying, and that UO is actually not profitable?

If so I should point out that the easiest thing in the world is to make up data and pretend, or assume, that it's correct. However, this is the closest thing we've had in a long time to an official word on what the subscription numbers are and how profitable the game is.

And the answers are, in order, about 100k and "wildly" so.

So again, see the question in my post.

Basically we need a new client as mentioned before.

I'm perfectly happy with uo's graphics, and it's gameplay HAS been incredible - besides some recent patches AGAINST mages; casting, no specials toggled during spells, dp etc.

And im not being biased about it's graphics - currently im playing AoC, and tell you the truth, it may be pretty, but it is nothing in comparison to the simplicity of UO.

But what uo really needs is more players (atlantic seems fine tho), and the only way to attract these 'carebears' or trammie equivilants is to get a new 'pretty' client for all those lonely banksitters to gasp over. Then and only then will UO gain customers instead of losing them.

Either that or start a whole new UO with similar gameplay - no level bs tho, keep uo similar to what it is now, except add new classes/races/spells/weapons/abilities and so on.

I agree , graphics are pretty , but its how much fun you are having and who you are having it with , for the most part UO isn't as fun as being with friends or guilds..

Another thing we need is a community rep that is good at marketing / promoting , very outgoing , and wants to be a part of the community , not just on Stratics. ( no offense to Jeremy..)
