We will turn on housing decay today. Please take the necessary steps to secure your house before its turned back on. Please note that even if your account has been inactive for more than 90 days, you still have 5 days after housing decay is back, before your house is gone.

If want to log in but you haven't had the chance to link your account in the Account Center yet, please check the Account Center Management Page guide and the How to link my Accounts guide. You can always contact '[email protected]' if you encounter a problem.

See you in-game!

Actually, they are saying that "If you have already gone the 90 days without paying, now you have an additional 5 days"

Just logged on my main crafter to get some bods and ran around 2-3 screens around his house. 4-5 houses are decaying already.

The plot attached to my old trial account (which has never been paid for, even in 2007 when opened) is still there, and shows no sign of decay. Not that I can use it though since my none of my main account chars are co-owners sadly.

lol this week will go down in history as the great collapse of 2012
I wish, but unfortunately..

These houses are handled differently and have to be manually deleted. They won't fall according to the other thread.

Has this many people really quit in a year or are some of these the RTB houses?
I have filled over 7 runebooks with idocs in fel alone.
Something tells me this is the last year for UO :/
The lack of anything from the developers. I really feel like they will close UO any day now.

no.

1. it could take houses with vendors anywhere from 15-50 days to collapse

2. houses fall "within 5 days" after 4 days is up I think there is some randomness involved w/ when the house falls during the 5th day, maybe someone else can clarify this

At 3:11 PM Eastern time they said "We will turn on housing decay today." This tells me they turned it on sometime after that. That means 48 hours is up sometime Saturday afternoon and the full 5 days will be up Sunday afternoon. I would look for houses to start falling PM Saturday and the last houses to fall by PM Sunday.

Hmm, I have two accounts. Both have houses. On one account the house is fine, on the other account the house is condemned... why?

there could be a lot of reason for that!

house account not linked right
account not paid
house was condemned when the system was frozen
you just paid it and they dont register it till server up

just to name a few

It sure looks like EA lost a lot of accounts during the account migration fiasco. A lot of people that couldn't get their accounts working correctly just gave up. I don't blame them really.

And their timing in choosing to take the account center down tomorrow morning for maintenance is a bit disconcerting.

Well the people who may be waiting until the very last minute (which there shouldn't be many considering how much of a heads up warning we were given) will have 5 days after the start of decay. The maintenance shouldn't take very long.

True, they should still have time. What I'm wondering now is how many players who haven't paid up yet may not have been reading Stratics recently. I hope they won't be too late.

I have no doubt that in the future we'll have posts from players that have been gone for a while, never did the account migration and for whatever reason never received any emails about it or account suspension due to no billing information.

It might not be a lot but I'm sure we'll at least see a few.

There may be some. I know I received an email in the early day about house decay being turned on. I have faith that those who don't frequent stratics will have enough time.

I hope not!!!

I think the house clearing is a good idea. Hopefully it will clear some space and let people who do still play have more housing options with regards to location. I'm in Malas but would like a Trammel plot.

Yup, and value of all goods goes down because more and more is available for free.

The Devs are missing a HUGE gold sink. These should be handled like Storage Wars - you get to view for 1 day - highest bid gets the plot and it stands with their exclusive access for 24 hrs then falls.

The gold would be deleted.

This way all stuff stays in game, gold is removed to pay for some of it and it gets rid of loot scripting and everything else at IDOCs.

Personally I do not like this idea. I believe it reinforces that those who already have lots of gold/item get more, while those with less have an even harder time catching up. For instance, I returned to UO almost 2 years ago with new account. Most of my first year was spent working up skill on my characters and doing idocs trying to find items/resources to use or sale. I would never have come along as far or as fast if I had to bid against players with million/billions of gold in order to have a chance at the higher value items from a house fall. I continue to recommend idocs to new or returning players as a means to equip toon and make money.

I think decay should stay the way it is. It follows life. When someone gets evicted from their house what happens if they do not take it with them? The Landlords take everything in the house and sets it on the curb at the street, or hire someone to do it for them. At that point it is public property and anyone is free to go thru it and take whatever they wish, without any legal consequence. If UO had storage lockers then I would agree with you, those could be handled in the manner above.

This way all stuff stays in game, gold is removed to pay for some of it and it gets rid of loot scripting and everything else at IDOCs.
The search sites help you find the best price and help you set your pricing when someone is buying from you (sometimes on little played shard there won't be any of a object for sale so I'll look across other shards for pricing guidance). It is a HUGE timesaver and while some people like wandering the game looking at vendors and 'shopping'. I hate it. I'm an amazon guy. Search, find, click, buy. I want the item and want to move on with my game experience. I hate to shop in life so why would I enjoy it in game?

The search sites are a godsend

So one form of illegal activity is ok, and another form of illegal activity is not? Sorry, but I find them both wrong.

People getting things for free devalues the effort to achieve them.

You might as well turn the game into test shard where resources are unlimited. This is how prodo shards are becomming with so much stuff already.

By paying for it - you still place some value on the items and make it so that people actually have to 'work' for items.

With no work required, no value. Why not just let people say 'give gold' and get millions in their bank with no work? Thats the same as IDOCS.

I don't know you, so I won't pass judgement or even pretend to know your angle (if you have one) but I have heard similar stories from people that run "malls" ingame. I've also heard rares collectors complain because their items depreciate when houses fall they claim. What if someone at an idoc might find something they value and decide to start collecting. If that is the case, it helps the community when someone new gets hooked on pixels...especially if you're a collector or a vendor w/collectables for sale.

Why do you hate idocs so much? Its been part of the game how long? Do you even play anymore? I do not like to PVP but I don't go around talking about how bad I think it is. I also find doing bods boring. But I do not put those down who do nothing but fill bods. Geez get over it already :yell:

TBFY... We are pickers. I can go over an IDOC after the "vultures" are done with it and still find a treasure or two. Like an old book written by a well known but long gone player. A bit of deco passed over that no longer spawns... and stuff I freely and gladly gift to friends and new folk on my shard.

Just FYI Theo there is work required in doing IDOCs. Personally I am not part of an IDOC guild or anything such as that so if I want to do IDOCs I have to spend the time and effort to go find them. Granted it is much easier to pick many items up from the ground than it is to get them by other means, but there is a degree or work required in it. If you don't like IDOCs then don't do them, but I suspect if someone were to tell you where a very rich IDOC was and noone else was around that you would help yourself to the spoils.

- Aye, it certainly does ...---...

Nonetheless, good to see this happening.

I will applaud EA properly once the RTB ~free housing mistakes are corrected.
(Maybe that is one of the bugs that they intend to fix.. 'twould only be proper. Oh, and maybe give legitimate subscribers a +1 house after you clean up that bug.. 'twould be good too ;))

This particular situation should not have ever occurred because the transition to a new payment location should have been seemless in the first place. Yet, the warnings are appreciated and were necessary, imo, at this point of the play.

And now, I will continue to not worry about my UO homes or status of accounts.
Enjoy the droppings

The devaluing of items in the game has helped it's demise. People were less likely to leave UO when gold was going for $8/mil and they could sell their stuff on ebay and elsewhere. It had VALUE.

Now things have very little value. There are many reasons why value has dropped in game but IDOC do NOT help the economy. They distribute 'free' goods to a shrinking playerbase.

The game is built upon achievement (skills, items, goods) and if you take that achievement away - there is less motivation for players to stay. More players leaving = dying game.

Yes, I have lots of stuff. No I don't sell goods for money. Yes I will scoop up IDOC stuff like mad and profit more than most people because I play several shards including a dead shard where I've got more than half a dozen castles marked. I don't view this as good for the game. At all.

I don't think people realize exactly how much STUFF is going to be dropped to the ground next week. Full 18x18s, castles, keeps across all shards completely full of items. Its not like there are hundreds of players to suck this up - on some shards its less than 100 active players.

At any rate - its nice to see that RTB houses are not included. That gives me about 20k free lockdowns on GL alone to stash the crap until I have a chance to sort it. Whee. 10 million turn in points for everyone.

Here is a couple examples of houses that are falling - I've got 4 runebooks full on GL alone and haven't even really canvased the shard yet. Many of the runes include 2 and 3 18x18's side by side falling. It is simply insane the amount of stuff that will hit the ground.

Once upon a time at server-up, when either Trammel or Malas came into being - can't remember which, virtually EVERYONE that played was online at one time running around trying to place houses and the LAG that was created was horrendous. Makes me wonder if we'll feel any lag when all these IDOCs fall all at once with everybody that still plays online....

It'll be fun to see...

I really think you are beating a dead horse by talking down IDOC day. Does this really serve a purpose? This by any experienced player in UO can tell you, is not the first IDOC day and probably wont be the last.

In case you havent noticed UO has experienced an overload of "parasite" players, who by any account have decided they no longer need to pay for their accounts but expect free service regardless.

Take a look around at IDOCS on day one then go back and look on day 4, and WOW a whole bunch of accounts have been refreshed....go figure.

This is one of Mythics good ideas, it is not just my opinion but that of MANY i have spoken too. It honestly doesnt need bad promotion because you know what, we all pretty much think those who disagree are stupid...sorry.

Look at all the returning players in the last few days, WOW, players everywhere, i would say they renewed interest in UO.

No one will buy stuff? Really? Before incoming IDOC day i was finding it hard to find things i wanted on vendors, but you can expect me to lay down a couple hundred mils on the days to follow on shopping for what you all have gotten, i wont miss out on what i want again.

The picture of the house Theo shows on GL i do believe the owner is dead IRL. This is a shame....it is a beautiful house, however i wonder what that owner would want knowing his house could breathe more life back into UO.

I will go against the crowd on this one. Being one of UOs already more wealthy players i say this is a good thing. If you miss out, it is your mistake.

Oh and i will murder Theo and two burnt if the opportunity comes this weekend....but they already knew that. But lets face it there probably wont be that much pvp this weekend because everyone will be too busy looting..........at least at first.

On a side note i had 5 idocs for today on ATL, 4 were refreshed at server up TODAY. When i said "parasites" i wasnt kidding!

This was at the birth of Trammel.

All players were fine when they had a deed in their pack (no lag). When the deed was placed, five minutes later you were no longer considered "placing" and you experienced more lag then possibly any other day in UO.

This was to make it as lag free for people placing but really other than house placing the game was unplayable.

I was told the story the other day and shown a in game memorial they placed for him so me being me dropped that rune out of my book even thow I did not know this guy there are far to many other idocs to mess with that one. Your gonna kill me  LoL. I am up to early :sleep2: Waiting for the server to come back up to see how many refreshed thier houses.

If this becomes the norm, people will pay monthly, Every month, or 5 days later the house poofs? Interesting
So no more 90 days?
That will be the advantage now for those Not skipping months?
I think we'd see quite a change in the future is that remains true
