We have added four additional small rugs to our collection. These rugs come in plain red, golden, cinnamon, and blue decorative. You can get them at www.uogamecodes.com. They come as a five piece set for $5.00.

stupid question time...

what exactly does it mean by "a 5 piece set"? Is that 5 of the same rug? (since each rug color sells seperately, i assume so but wanna make sure before I think about buying anything)

This a joke ?????
You would think - wouldn't you?

Who in their right mind would pay $5 for a few rugs?

In general - all of the UO store stuff is overpriced. $20 for name change or gender change? Please.

If they had more reasonable costs - they would sell a hell of a lot more. These goods have a very elastic demand curve.

So makes you wonder if you buy cinnamon do you get Cinnamon or do you get golden??? Might want to fix that one EA.

Selling heritage tokens would have been smarter.. there is only a limited supply of ladders out there.

Yes, I would have loved to see Heritage Tokens added instead. I was not active in UO when those tokens came out and am constantly looking for additional tokens. Those produce some useful items for chacters. I personally am not interested in deco.

Yes, well, like everything at the UO Store, you might take notice of an interesting tidbit, since -- not to be rude -- you seem to have failed to notice the issue:

It's not the same people complaining that they're available to purchase as it is the ones complaining that they are available to purchase.

Me, I don't care one way or another... I don't think they should offer stuff to Japan that isn't offered here, BUT I also know there's no chance in hell I'm going to buy five one-tile carpets (and I'll be honest, I think those that do are pretty silly, but that's their choice, not mine... I did buy one of each of the ladybugs simply because they'd look good in my garden, and what the hell, it's okay to help support UO through micro-transactions that I like).

But in either case, I'm sure you won't find the people being the same.

Why in the world would you buy one of those when you can purchase them for less than 5,000 gold in-game?

Why would anyone buy these when you can go to Ter Mur do a simple quest that even the newest newbie could complete and buy pieces to make rugs of any size?

They're not the same as the carpets you can get through the quest in Ter Mur, or the ones that come from the heritage tokens. They are the same look, but these exist entirely on one tile... sorta like a doormat.

5 bucks for 5 door mats? Seems like a waste of money to me. I could buy a six pack of good microbrew beer for less than the cost of two sets of rugs.

Well as long as it is a new item.

UO does lead the way in MMO micro-transactions. Blizzard will probably start offering similar items soon. As long as it stays decorative I don't see an issue.

Am I correct in thinking that you play on Atlantic? I am not sure what I have on Atlantic but if I have any heritage tokens there you are welcome to them.

Actually, several other games (mostly free-play) lead the way in micro transactions. UO is simply following suit.

And while I personally think they're stupid little carpets, let's face the real fact here... the reason there's new carpet styles is because:

The first round sold like hotcakes.

UO is becoming Farmville.
You know this is actually spot on. I am not against micro-transactions at all; I love them. But the game companies that implement them seem completely clueless about how to price the items for maximum profit. Zynga (FarmVille) has exactly the same problem. Heck, so does NCSoft with Guild Wars; for eg, they want $10 for a new character/slot, which comes with 50 inventory spaces. Or for your same $10 you can just buy 20 inventory spaces to be shared across your whole account (not per character). Errr? Who would do that when you could have a new character and twice the space too?? Meanwhile they only want $2 for a face/hair makeover, which is totally reasonable. Sometimes it seems like they pull the numbers out of a hat, or people who don't really understand the value of the items in the game context, are put in charge of the pricing schemes.

Back when I took donations for piecemeal work I did for a mod community for another game, I found that if I asked for $2, I made loads more money than if I asked for $5. There's a sweet spot for every item. Something tells me $5 for a lame rug that already exists in-game, isn't even close.

Then again, SWG charges $100 to move a character from one server on one account to another server on a different account. It's a wide spectrum of insanity...

I haven't done the quest from the NPC in the Ter Mur tailor shop (Laifem the Weaver), so I don't know if this is actually true. However, I vaguely recall that the carpet from the quest acts differently than the 4-tile-square carpets that come from the Heritage tokens and that it appears you can now purchase from the uogamecodes site.

I believe that you CANNOT place items (perhaps just deedable items) on top of the carpet squares from the quest. You can (on Origin, at least for the moment and you could on the other shards until something broke) place deedable items such as looms and spinning wheels on the non-quest 4-tile-square carpets.

I think there are some other differences as well but don't recall all of them.

So no, to summarize, I think there are some key differences in the quest carpeting and the Heritage token/uogamecode carpets.

Join me in wanting interior corner pieces!
How long did it take you to decide to post about this issue? Hmmmm....???

I so want to tease you unmercifully about it, but I'll be nice and refrain. I'll just tell you that it's given me a good chuckle.

Hmm.. I smell a beta tester knock. :)

Unfortunately or fortunately I only tested UI issues, client issues.. I left the game-play problems to other players (which I was sure that would seek out new content and use it).

Four tiles isn't much to ask, especially considering the UO site quote, "Custom Carpets represent a new way of offering our players the ability to customize the look and feel of their homes by assembling carpets into any shape or size they wish."

I never bothered with housing during the beta test.. it would seem to me the interior corner pieces would be a vital ingredient to the "any shape or size" part of the quote.

I love you Tina but give me some credit, my argument has merit.

[edit] I distinctly remember telling you the first time I met you in beta that I wasn't interested in a house.. I figured enough other people were into that. [/edit]

I've been able to place deeded items on the quest carpets all along.
I just took this less than 3 minutes ago on Catskills.

Maybe EA Store can start a small financing arm of things, to allow people that have run out of money buying fantasy to borrow for a little more?

I mean...Castles and Keeps aren't cheap, and with the economy the way it is...

And maybe we can have a new race called "Financiers" that make in loan games, and their Avatars look like Mob Bosses.

I am not talking about the Bosses we find in Peerless...I am speaking of Bosses, in the Mob.

It could take Role Playing to a whole new level.

The EA store could then sell concrete boots in different colors, and offer them in 5 packs, to properly take care of the folks, in game, that couldn't pay back their Rug Loans in a timely fashion.

OK...this will probably never happen...but we can all have dreams, right?

Every single decorative item available in the UOcodes store should be for sale for UO gold from NPC vendors. So many people wet themselves in their hurry to shell out money for bookcases that I can't pretend I'm surprised to see them trying to wring more cash out of us.

Don't feed the marketing team folks, it only makes them hungrier.

Yes, your argument has lots of merit and I agree with you 100% on it. When I build using something like the plank floors, I always have to get all the corner pieces just right and missing tiles out of what is otherwise a nice set bugs the heck out of me.

Just couldn't resist the urge to tweak your nose just a tiny bit. I so seldom get that opportunity!

Yes, here is an outline of the differences:

Heritage token rugs - deeded, takes up 9 tiles (3x3) Cannot be dyed

Gamecodes rugs - takes up ONE tile (1x1), same designs as heritage token rugs but smaller :) Also cannot be dyed

Quest Carpeting - Same general designs as heritage & gamecodes, but the carpet comes in pieces. Center pieces, edge fringe, and corner fringe. You can re-create the look of the heritage token rugs, but you cannot get the same look as the gamecodes rugs because there aren't any individual square tiles with fringe. CAN be dyed, and looks quite neat when you do.
