First reaction is positive.
Was the reference to Harlan Ellison's "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream" intended or accidental?
I have a definite soft spot for purely "teaser" fiction, and I have a soft spot for very disturbing things being jarringly hinted at but not actually seen. One example from another vehicle would be the Mayor of Sunnydale suddenly calling the principal of Buffy's school, right before a cut to the next scene. (Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans will remember this surprisingly-jarring moment.) Or in the movie Audition, which I have not seen but know something of, when the strangely-large burlap sack next to the female lead moves unexpectedly. You get the idea. When they are well done, such moments can be like a slap to the face.
One thing I should remind you of, though: Dawn has a husband that we never see. (I for one actually kinda like that we never see him.)
Nothing in this piece contradicts this. I don't think anyone assumes that they get to be together every night. It's kind of the price to be paid when your wife is the Queen; you don't see her a lot. So this is one of the probably many nights she spends without him, alone with her thoughts and her sword.
Just reminding you lest it's been forgotten, which is easy to do.
I suppose I could suggest a few editorial changes.
But I like this one.

I can't remember if he was a guardsman or just a craftsman type of person. If he's a guardsman he's probably on detail or perhaps watching the battles in the desert. If a craftsman, perhaps he's out of town working on something.

I've been trying to find my LBR comic so I could do some work on Dawn with regards to our guild fiction, but I seem to have misplaced it.
There used to be a scanned version on the web somewhere too, but I can't find that either.

I like it. Kerom's and Dawn's dreams actually had me holding my breath with anxiety. I know those type of dreams all too well from experience...maybe Queen Dawn needs to spend some time talking to that husband of hers...she's probably got PTSD.

So yeah....What was intended as an off-handed comment became part of Dawn's lore, because the only people who consistently care, the RolePlayers, pretty much ran with it. I long-ago lost the link to the relevant post.
Dawn's husband has been mentioned, but not seen, on Great Lakes by the Event Moderators.
I liken him to M's husband in the new James Bond movies. (Casino Royale and onward.) An off-screen presence, a reminder that the M character has a life apart from what we see her do on-stage.

So ummm....we're screwed? The Guardian can't be defeated save by the Avatar. I'm quite sure we'll have an event where evil gets run over by good as it always happens.
I'd like the see the land of sosaria laid to waste for a while. Let evil rule for a while. Even the cities are no longer safe from the reach of the guardian. The free people scattered and driven into hiding.
That would be the coolest thing ever done in UO.

We had a variant of that, during Casca's reign.
On Great Lakes, the Event Moderators had evil events, like wiping out groups of rangers and stuff.
And the evil Virtue Rules (if you lie your tongue gets cut out...stuff like that, borrowed from Ultima V) were posted everyplace.

Maybe she's evolved over the years.

As bad as that comic was, I am glad it's archived. It's part of the lore, suck though it might.
Dawn's husband wasn't around then, yet. The off-hand comment by a dev that we've turned into lore (for want of any better explanation for Dawn's absence) clearly implied she'd married after slaying Blackthorn. At the LBR time frame she was, let's face it, still a little girl, in many ways.
You know, now that I think about it, it's quite funny, the image we have of heroes simply doesn't incorporate domestic life. We assume that domestic life "tames" someone enough that their heroism stops, at least until their family is threatened in some way. And, indeed, what brought Dawn back to public life? When Casca went after her and her family by trying to burn down their house in Yew. On most shards the fires are still smoldering; on Great Lakes there's even an RP explanation for why the fires will likely never go out (thank you for that, EM Malachi).
While this is especially true of women heroes, it's not exclusively so. Dirty Harry wasn't married (his wife had died by the time of the first movie), nor are Supreman or Batman. Van Helsing's wife (in a nice, disturbing master stroke of Bram Stoker's) was in a mental hospital. Philip Marlowe wasn't married, and his author died while writing a book where he was! We hear little about Aragorn's life post-marriage. I guess some of the Dragonlance heroes still did stuff after they got married. Lord British's romantic life is mostly left to off-stage "fill-in" fiction by RPers (on GL for example) and by ImaNewbie. The latter implied he had a neglected, unhappy wife who used to go out and pick up men in the taverns behind her husband's back.
Maybe that's why I attached so completely to Dawn's husband as an unseen, off-stage character. I like the idea that she has someone to run to.

Sure did! Caramon Majere and Tika Waylan married, and then Caramon was booted out and went adventuring during the The Twins trilogy. Riverwind married as well, and I'm pretty sure he had some fights..

Cal, that was a nice effort. Good idea behind it. Imaginative base. I won't get into details and nit picking. You'll get better as you go on that score. Just remember to always consider all aspects of the game (moons).
I wonder how many players get the "sleeping" part. I think I "know" you did that intentionally, just from past stuff and all. Very nice touch. We've been sleeping for far too long.
I was very happy to see that we had a choice that mattered, without telling us in so many words, with the Ophid/Chosen war.
All I can say at this point is "more of that!"
I'm curious where this is going. Frankly, I'm also afraid that something deeply a part of the lore will be used cheaply. But then, I don't know where you are going with it, so maybe I'm just paranoid. But really, I've seen a lot of liches pop up around me, ya know?

The original Batman (the one from the 40s & 50s), whose comic universe was later called "Earth-Two" before the comic "Crisis on Infinite Earths", married Selena Kyle (Catwoman), and had a daughter (named "Huntress" in her costumed identity, that was turned into an unrelated character (ala the character in "Birds of Prey") after her parents were no longer in continuity after "Crisis".
And, Superman/Clark & Lois have been married since 1996!!!!

And let's face it...Batman and Superman have moved far beyond comic books or movies and have become a contemporary mythology. One price of that is people such as myself who are sadly ignorant of different forms of the myths, and take the bastardized versions we were exposed to at face value.

Before I read any of the comments, my initial reaction to the fiction is Bane, Dawn, and Garg Queen dreams, correct?
The Bane dream paints a picture of its people as "serpents bathed in warm oil," however, given they are killed via repond, I can only assume then that the Bane are a human-like race with reptilian features.
Dawn's section evoked a lot more for me, and I especially pulled out keywords "Harrowers," and "mystically." I wonder if it is possible for the arc to include a harry, or those old weapons again.

In his dreams a woman leads his people against some deranged form of Blackthorn only to to hand over the power to some foolhardy council.
Bloody battles without leadership lead to many defeats and only barely do his people survive.
With startled groan Lord British lifts his head from the table of the tavern where he had managed to vanquish quite an astounding amount of liquor.
Looking under the table he finds to his relief the liquor intoxicated form of his drinking companion.
Giving him a rough shove with his foot he grunts to him "Get up Blackthorn, you useless bugger. We got a kingdom to reclaim.

The Ancient Evil discussion does bring a question to my mind. Could a powerful necromancer find the remains of a fallen villain like Casca or Blackthorn and revive them as a powerful undead?

I doubt it's Exodus....I don't think Exodus would scare Queen Zhah.
However, your posts did make me think of something. The post reference Harlan Ellison's short story "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream." The villain in that story is an evil super computer.
Exodus is also an evil super computer.
It is worth thinking about; I doubt it's Exodus though.

Exodus is the evil that enslaved Gargoyles. He/it was never really portrayed in UO much, and should be considered every bit as powerful and evil as Minax.
Mondain, on the other hand, is dead. Although his spirit may live on, in some means. But in the early parts of the first age of our worlds (UO's early days), the Relics of Mondain were actually on display. Link with Picture
Then again, the Relics of Mondain were used to cast the failed Spell of Armageddon by the FOA, which opened the way to the Lost Lands. And those Relics were later collected by someone, but I don't recall if we ever knew by whom. So...hard to say on that score.

Hrm, I'm wondering too. Exodus may be involved, but there may well be more to it all. And there should be, after all. Both Exodus and Minax should be part of the entire Guardian thing, in my mind. Bringing Mondain to his ultimate goal. And I've always believed that the Guardian is a spiritual form of Mondain himself.

There's several things in here that I'm wondering about. Not just who the Chosen are, but what all is involved in the meaning of things.

Lavender goal? In their hands? What could this be? As the person who has spent so much time in the past on lore, and brought out the deep mystery of the Black Necklace, it hits me that one thing this might be is the Black Necklace itself. The magic that I proposed was cast through this Necklace was lavender (or purple) in the start up movie. And the Shadowlords have the Black Necklace.

Serpents bathed in warm oil? This has me confused. I can't think of anything that this "warm oil" can be.
The rest seems to be simply killing victims, but it might be something more sinister, as in killing people "in their sleep", or something of that sort.
Much of the rest seems to be a continuation of historical nature to the FOA. Defeat us from within, we will join them willingly, through our blood will cone reform and redemption, etc. etc.
Just a quick note on the "lavender goal," I for some reason took that to be a tie in to Faction changes (which may or may not be coming). Obviously not saying that this really *is* where this is going, but given that you take a sigil and become purple, that's where my mind went.

I'm afraid my theory is based on mundane rather than Mondain. The name a certain crystal has when I happened to notice it in 'inside uo' when gathering item pictures for our items database. The picture next to it had a rather interesting name too
If it was "Minax's Crystal" or "Minax's Necklace" or something like that, then it's the base item name for that crystal that's in Lord British's Throne Room.
My guess is that at some point Minax was supposed to be involved in the plotline and that her necklace or crystal or mascara or something was supposed to be what was in the vault. Then they changed their minds, and redrew the item rather than draw a new item and name it separately.
But that's literally just a guess. It surely doesn't cancel out Minax being involved in the storyline.....And remember that she's already appeared in some fiction in the relatively recent past.
And then, of course, you could be talking about something totally different.

On GL, the crystal in the throne room has nothing lavender about it. It's a long blue crystal with a handle attached on one end, in a glass case on a pedestal.
I think Petra's answer is almost certainly right. Now we all have to wait to see what that is. "Mundane"? That doesn't sound promising, if the name is included in that description.
