This week’s installment of the upcoming items available for the beautification of Magincia (and other areas) includes a little something for your hearth and your lawns.

Gargoyle Statues:

Goblin and Llama Topiaries:

More information on the distillery:

Due to sometimes less than legal history of distributing liquor throughout the U.S., we have brought a small element into the design of the distillery. There will be one component in its crafting that will require … shall we say a thief’s touch in order to acquire it.

That component will be in lesser supply throughout the world. So keep a thief friend close when the distillery becomes available this Spring.

Re: [UO Herald] More Efforts for the Restauration of Magincia

I can see the pictures... the textures look fantastic, but I'd need to see the scale in game to be sure what I thought of them! Could these be previews of the updated EC artwork?

However, I'm not so positive on the Distillery requiring a thieving item... please, please, please try and understand what happened with the Academic Books in Bedlam; they have just been scripted by the Real Gold Trader webpages since release, and on Europa at least, where I've been back about 14 months I've not seen a single one for sale legitimately, ever And that's watching the webpages that shouldn't be mentioned almost every day too. The sad truth is because book cases are desirable, and there's a rare fixed location spawn, they entire market for them has been destroyed.

So please randomize the items for the distilleries somewhat to avoid them being scripted.

Brilliant, more useless additions the casual player can never get because scripters camp the main item needed... this asinine idea falls right into play with the academic books needed for the full bookshelf.

mmm I doubt it... those items are 3D concept arts, EC still a 2D game with 2D models (in a 3D engine), is something like to buy a ferrari and keep going at 20mph...

Here is the real items:

My thoughts exactly.

If the thief-bit is rare or stationary, there's no way that the distillery will ever get off the ground in the non-obsessive community.

:wall:

Seriously?

While I freely admit that thieves need some love, giving "them" an item to steal that will be camped, scripted, and SOLD FOR REAL CASH is unacceptable. Yet another minigame brought to its knees before release by poor design.

When I first read about the distillery, I knew some idiotic element of tedium would be introduced. However, I chose to keep my mouth shut in the vain hope the Team learned its lesson with the virtually unused HS cannoneering. Thank you for (once again) confirming my earlier conviction that this Team is woefully out of touch.

As others have stated, regarding the academic books, things like this DON'T WORK in practice. They look good on paper and sound fun in theory, but any artificial rarity of a key ingredient is patently stupid.

I was so excited to see a distillary....until now. Really? We're going to need a thief to steal some rare item for it? I guess that counts me out as ever owning one, as I'm a casual player and I don't script for items. *sigh* Just for a bottle of liquor that will have an engraved label and more than likely do nothing else but make your char drunk. How pointless. And I do have a thief btw.

What exactly is the point of making the distillery somewhat rare? So the fun doesn't spread around too much? This is really baffling to me.

sounds to me like it is a element you will need one time just to build it and not a item you will have to get again and again

Yes to build it is the way I read it. Doesn't change my point unless they are a common spawn.

*throws hands up in the air*

I give up. Hello! People in charge.... DEV's..... you listening? Seeing these posts????

We don't want another incident like the books... I've yet to actually come across those books ever in game outside the set someone gave me as a wedding gift and they have been out for how long now?

As a Tavern owner I'd really like to try having a distillery.... but if that's how it's going to be I guess I may as well forget it.

I know that on my shard if it's an item that spawns once per day or month or week and it's campable.... then no one will ever see that item unless they pay RL cash for it.

Please don't make this rare.

Re: [UO Herald] More Efforts for the Restauration of Magincia

i dont have a problem with them being semi rare now if its something that just spawns 1 time a day thats to rare random spots with random times would be best so they cant be camped and scripted

Restauration?
I went from being very disappointed that such a typo would make it onto UO Herald, to the idea that maybe there was some sort of restaurant theme that they worked into New Magincia, and then back to utter frustration.

Given this type of error, how can we expect any publish to be even relatively bug free.

Thieves for a distillery? Unless this item is not rare and spawns randomly throughout the lands, I see this as being a bad thing.

I looked through Inside UO, the llama and mongbat topiaries are next to each other. I couldn't find a goblin one. So unless they changed their minds and are going to replace the mongbat or add the goblin, Cal needs to check his facts.

All the UO items/mobs are created in 3D then 'flattened' into sprites to fit UO's early 90's retro look. Essentially, they take pictures of the 3D models (this is probably how many of the perspective issues are carelessly introduced).

Why they would show us art that is light-years better then what we will actually receive is the real question.

Odd comment from you given your knowledge of gaming. Concept art is always better than the final product, especially since they begin with a much higher resolution.

They should have called it an imp. I'm not sure, there are definitely some editing mistakes on the update so it's hard to really tell.

Either way, being shocked is a little extreme ;p they're just topiaries...hehe. I'd be shocked if the people who think the concept art is real are correct. That would be pretty shock-worthy.

My would-be sarcasm is not always as clear as it seemed when I wrote it unfortunately.

I have seen some potential for high resolution graphics though, especially with Virtuebane. I know part of it was the color palette, but he was pretty sharp zooming in and out. The new Gothic housing tiles also seem pretty sharp.

I wish I had looked at Virtuebane in the CC.

Maybe Cal will perform a 'restauration' on his post and fix the mistakes. :p

I'm shocked that nobody else noticed the discrepancy between what's actually IN the clients from what Cal thinks they're doing, not that said discrepancy exists. This is Mythic, screw ups are a given.

Re: [UO Herald] More Efforts for the Restauration of Magincia

...

At this point it will all depend on how the artwork scales between this:

and this:

If it scales smoothly adding in detail as you zoom in, then we MIGHT have a real improvement coming with the upcoming art revamp. If it scales the same way everything else currently does, then there hasn't been any real improvement and the pics on UO Herald can be considered at least somewhat misleading.

Either way, one thing the comparison IS good for is to show the limitations that we are working with in regards to UO, the CC, and the artwork resolution with the UO Herald images being what we COULD have and the ones Pinco posted being what we are limited to.

The folks selling the rare items for hundreds of millions in Luna will be having LOTS of fun.

I'm really disappointed in this new development. I don't mind working hard for results, but to make a key piece only obtainable by a single class of character... geez. I mean seriously... GEEZ!

So what was commonly stolen to build a still? I don't remember anything like that. If it's just a reference to organized criminal activity (read scripters), sounds like another Fail to me, unless they Meant it to be that, surely not? Whatever it is, my bet it's inside a dungeon, which one?

I'm glad with all the in game existing art that still requires fixing they decided to instead waste the art related man hours on things that are, honestly, pretty worthless.

It's like they simply just don't care or set themselves up for failure. It's baffling.

Copper tubing.

Copper thieves are all over the place in the US these days, with the price of copper being very high, and with the ability to melt it down and cover up its origins.

Re: [UO Herald] More Efforts for the Restauration of Magincia

So let me get this straight.
Magencia was 'burned' due to it's lack of Virtues and so such.....
yet the first thing introduced (well 2nd after the glutonous amount of gold spent to buy a house) is Brewing?
Something only done in one city in Sosaria 'so far'......did they not learn their lesson the first time?
Do any of the so called Devs actually read past notes?
A City-state that has just had to learn humility to win over the evil one?...yet the first thing it does is to make distillarys? so everyone can get drunk and do stuff where Humility is the last thing on their minds????

Shesh, you should get the 'epic quest' designers to re-write the Bible. You'd sell more 'updated' books than subscriptions.

Poor, very poor.
