At this stage in the current Live arc, it’s important we share some information about the future location of the Council of Mages.

Mesanna and Uriah will be on TC1 this weekend, Saturday October 23rd, at 1400 hours EST (that’s 2 in the afternoon on the East Coast). We will cover the relocation of the CoM factions base and the impact it will have on the current story arc. Also, we will field questions specifically on the live arc.

If you are unable to attend, please have a representative available in your place. We recommend attendance, thank you!

Cal, you guys need to just put the details for this in writing, run it through the review process and post it for everyone to see. 2 pm Eastern Time on a Saturday is a horrible time to expect people who have families to be jumping into UO for something like this. In addition, there will probably be the usual crowd of griefers causing disruption and people spamming Mesanna for favors so that anyone who really wants to know what's going to happen will be hard-pressed to see what you guys are saying.

I still have some active subscriptions and, but for the time, would probably attend something like this. But we're expecting to be out on a farm picking pumpkins and going through a cornfield maze right about that time on Saturday. I'm sure I'm not the only person with a family who has plans for the day.

Don't make your paying customers who still have some marginal interest in factions have to rely on word of mouth to get this information, Cal. It seems pretty obvious that the EMs and Mesanna managed to mess up Magincia on several shards because they didn't think about factions. Don't add insult to injury in this situation by trying to smooth over the mess with an in-game meeting that will be impossible for all interested parties to attend and most likely will not be completely and impartially reported/summarized for the people who can't be there.

And lastly, you guys are really showing your ignorance of factions when you send out an invitation like this and address it to just the COM faction commanders. Do you not understand that a change like this affects everyone already in factions or who might be thinking of joining factions? For one thing, thieves from opposing factions have to know where the new COM stronghold is so they can check it for sigils. Other enemy faction members have to know where the new stronghold is so they know where fights will happen. People who want to join COM need to know where the new sign-up stone will be. People who are already in COM and want to get out of it need to know where the faction stone is to leave the faction. It boggles my mind that you think an in-game meeting is the best way to reliably disperse information about a change like this.

Absolutely mind-boggling and truly pathetic.

If I could attend (can't, I work weekends) could I impersonate a CoM commander? *spits*

Just to add some people actually, in game, LIVE on Magincia and they'd kinda like to know whats going on. Three years of off and on attacks has been more than enough. Just saying.

I don't understand this response. Moving the Council of Mages base only affects the Council of Mages faction. It won't be difficult for people to learn the new location. This information will be available on every relevant website once the meeting is over.

How do you really feel, Tina? *winks*
Kelmo, you know how much I used to care about factions. Plus CoM is the first faction I ever belonged to!

I've been trying to make up my mind lately about whether or not to really resume playing, with fewer active accounts of course. But this lackadaisical effort at addressing what could be a somewhat important faction-related change is really making me wonder why bother with playing again. It just smacks of a last-minute attempt to sweep under the rug a major goof made by people who don't actually play the game but just show up now and then to make a few token appearances.

I know the UO staff is probably hugely understaffed. But letting one more change, and a relatively big one at that, go in with NO official written document sends up a big red warning flag for me. EA's current paying customers who can't be there don't deserve to be ignored like this, and their prospective and future customers who would like to review a history of changes shouldn't be treated this way either.

It makes me wonder if the game's future is on such shaky ground at this point that the development team no longer feels it is worthwhile to bother with providing written documentation for significant changes. In case no one noticed, the historical information you used to be able to review on the official UO site has been quietly removed or made inaccessible. I guess maybe the next step is to add as little as possible to it by skimping on publish and patch notes and letting the EMs handle as much of the game fiction as possible through their websites that you can't even find links for on the official site.

Blech. It's all just so shoddily done I wonder how many people really feel they are getting their money's worth anymore out of their subscription fees and how many think they'll still bother with UO by the beginning of next year.

And JC, I don't care if Stratics and UOGuide pick up the information on their websites. EA should be posting it in some official format and the way this is being done, it looks like they don't want to be bothered with that. Instead it looks to me as if Cal is just trying to avoid writing up something and sending it off to be approved before he can officially post it. He'll have a fifteen or thirty minute gathering in-game and call it good. It's the lazy way out and as a still-paying subscriber, I'm calling him on it.

What she said!

I agree on everything! Put it on the website - a warped version of it will be posted here within minutes anyway. And then you have to go around and do explaining and clarifications.

Also, this will be saturday evening in europe. Normal people are spending that time with their family or out drinking with friends or the like!

I am sure it would take a lot less time to post it on UO.com then it is to have this meeting. Also you don't have the opportunity to ask questions. It is like they are holding a press conference that you get to attend.

It isn't like immediately after this announcement the Council of Mages is being moved. You will be able to learn about it days/weeks in advance. And there will obviously be patch notes on UO.com indicating where this thing gets moved to.

JC, if Cal truly wants to give people the opportunity to ask questions and actually GET ANSWERS, then having an in-game event at a time that is bound to be inconvenient for a fair number of people and that will be flooded with griefers is not the way to do it.

What I would prefer he do instead is provide an announcement via the Herald with the basic information about what's going to happen. Then schedule a House of Commons chat a few days later and have the Stratics staff help moderate it and funnel questions to him and Mesanna before hand and during the chat. People who can't be there would have an opportunity to digest the information and then submit their questions. We would also know the session is being moderated by people who actually care about the game. No one would have to put up with the moronic griefers and there would be a reliable record of both the basic announcement and the Q&A session.

As far as I'm concerned, handling the announcement and the Q&A session as an in-game event is just pure laziness and an insult to the people who actually might still have some slight interest in the faction system.

Explain to me how the hell you know this is being done badly before its done??

How do you know that the COM members arent being given a "sneak peak" of where they will be moving to before the fiction event part starts??

It would make sense that they would know before everyone else where they are moving to.

You know very little and assume a hell of a lot.

Any time or day is going to be inconvenient for a fair number of people. What is the big deal anyway? They are just announcing the new location. It as if you are missing out on a special item or title for participating in this event. It is on Test Center.

As for greifing, with a mouse click they can send the greifer to jail permanently and not have to worry since it is a Test Center.

Also I think they planned to have the new faction system going prior to this. But now the base move has to happen because they can't hold back the live events anymore.

Did we get any warning about where the new Minax base was going? No, we logged in one day and someone said it was on the other side of Destard mountain.

Hello Everyone,

Let me see if I can shed some light on this subject. We picked the day and time to hopefully to make it easier for more to attend. This only involves CoM, no other faction because of the future plans we have for Magencia. It would not be fair to CoM if we left it on Magencia. Calvin and I want to show you where we are moving your base to and answer any questions we can.

How in the world can Cal and Mesanna limit participation to just CoM faction commanders? They can't. They can't even limit participation to CoM faction members. Get real.

And JC, I understand this is on Test Center and I'm not so stupid as to think going to the meeting would give any of my characters some special title or special reward. That's absolutely laughable. If they were handing out anything, I'd probably drop it on the ground in disgust.

I've tried to voice my concerns about how this information is being presented and apparently no one thinks those concerns are valid. And yes, I did hear from Cal in a PM and no it doesn't sound like he has any plans to do anything differently.

So go ahead and plan on attending the circus on Test Center Saturday. I'm sure between all the griefers doing what they always do and Mesanna zapping her little "fan club" members and handing out junk, you'll really enjoy the experience and log out feeling like the subscription fees you pay so diligently are being well spent.

I mean was there a big announcement that Minax was being moved? It wasn't. This time there is actually going to be an announcement on it. Tina seems to be really upset about a press conference, which happens all the time. Apple just had one to announce their latest products. It is a very common thing.

If this is the new quick and cheap way for the developers to announce changes to the game, then they'd better get ready to lose a lot of customers.

you can't please all of the people...

i understand Tina's gripe about the time, but take it fwiw. EA Brass wants to have an ingame press conference. It's a nice gesture. The new location is sure to be widely known by the day's end regardless of whz they do this or not. Lighten up a bit.

Personally concerning Magencia it frosted my shorts much more that the destruction of the city ended at like 2pm est on a tuesday and if you can find one of those rift pillars now there a 100 mln item...

so its par for the course, having it on sat at 2pm when your a week off Halloween and many are getting their last licks being out and about before old man winter's arrival.

my 2 cents.

because it's not quite clear, two questions:

did I miss the location of the meeting? is it to be held in Magencia? (that's just one question, ignore the two question marks rolleyes: )

fielding questions on the live arc as it pertains to only the faction move or in general?

It's an arm chair quarterback making the decisions. Basically they are wanting to show and discuss with the community what they want to do but the arm chair quarterback has already made up his mind and what he wants to do.

I agree with Tina. The information should be posted for past and "IF" any new subscribers come to play instead of them reading old outdated info where it used to be. Thats the least they could do for a P2P model game.

They are really doing their best to shuffle everything away from Magincia... old EM places, CoM HQ...

Is this 'reconstruction of Magincia' going to affect the (albeit, small) population that owns property on Magincia? I know there are only a handful (0-3) plots on every shard, but still.

the only thing said about the story arc is that it was the reason the base was being moved, and that they would try and have this current arc done before the end of the year.

The whole meeting was pretty much just letting us know where the base was being moved to, and a general idea of what it would look like. Im sure we could have gotten a little more info, but the crowd was a bit to rowdy and were not paying close attention (asking the same question 9x+)

thats about it though.

So this really would have been something that could have been relayed better via a post on the Herald, or a thread here?

I'm glad I slept through it now...

The 'current arc done before the end of the year' aspect kinda scares me. We have only two months and two weeks left before the end of the year, not much time to wrap up the arc without major plot holes. :(

you didn't miss much and the base will be on test before it goes live.

The only reason I showed was just it case they had already placed it. They took us to the site of the entrance to the new base, and talked in general terms about its construction, and we all know how that works out most times. So I'm happily waiting to see.

They did allow as to any other faction changes previously proposed are on the back burner until they can be looked at in greater detail again. So that has nothing at all to do with this change of location for CoM.
