UO Font/Special Unicode Characters

Ok I give up!

Have spent several hours today and yesterday attempting to get a list of special characters that can be used in UO.

For example, from stratics : (http://uo.stratics.com/content/misc/unicode.shtml)

[Alt]+025220 gives „ (lower double quote)
[Alt]+025222 gives † (which looks like a cross or a sword)
[Alt]+025223 gives ‡

I have tried the following :

Hours of googling.
Inside UO.
I even thought of writing a program or something to sit and input every combination from 000001 to 065535 (or whatever) and then capture this in a journal log. But after finding out how to save the journal, it appears (despite an option for unicode logging??) I cannot get 'special' characters to appear in the log. This would take forever too, and be a bit silly.

I am sure there must be a simple answer to this somewhere!! Please can anyone help?! Our new rune library is stuck in limbo until I get his information!!

Thanks hopefully

I've had emotes with music notes or hearts. I made them by using the Windows character map (start > all programs > accessories > system tools) Scroll down to the character you want, select it, copy it, then paste into uo using ctrl + v.

Hi Petra

Many thanks for the reply! To be honest, I had not thought of such an obvious method of getting the characters in!

:dunce:

However...! My problem still (kind of) stands... For example, I have had a quick go with a few other symbols (from the unicode arial map), and it appears you can use some other interesting characters I have not seen used before, such as :

and

and

Which show up nice and bold in UO, hehe. :)

But there are many in between these that do not!
My first thought was maybe I could charmap to paste the whole map in, split into smaller strings, and see which ones show and which don't. But it appears if there is one char in there that UO doesn't like, the whole string is ignored!

Having thought about it a little more... maybe I can just go through them one at a time, or something!! Eek! But then again, what if there are gaps in the Arial map that are still valid (and interesting!) character in UO? Arg. Having no real experience with character encoding this is starting to make my head hurt. Haha!

Not sure this applies in this case, but Win98 won't let you see the alt codes in a lot of instances. I couldn't see them used until I upgraded to WinXP.

You can get alt-characters and how to type them here:

been using this as a reference for years. :)

due to how the font displays in the CC, you might not see umlauts accurately... but the journal shows up well....
This is ä.

Note the umlaut in the journal display, but it looks like the "long a" over my head. That particular character (and other pronunciation marks) do not have alt-keystrokes.

Technically, my character's full name is Kirthag DìOrsæ, but UO wouldn't let me put that in when I created her way-back-when. :)

On your computer search Character Map.
Most of those you can copy and paste directly into UO.

Heres a few pages that work and are really fun. Just copy and paste what ya like. Some don't work, a lot does.
