Skill Gain, Quest Objectives, and the On-Rails Experience

In our previous Dev Diary, we talked about our plans to introduce an alternative way of experiencing New Legacy that was less focused on the main story narratives and building your character through questing, and closer to the traditional character building experience veterans of Ultima Online are familiar with.

Beta Weekend #3 will feature the first rollout of this new Divergent Path that players can follow.

The starting experience after character creation has been redesigned to offer you a choice after selecting your Surname. You can still choose to follow the Narratives and experience the stories of New Legacy as they unfold, and increase your skills through narrative quests.

Alternatively, you can now choose to opt out of the primary narrative lines. You will take an accelerated path to receive basic skills and be sent into the world to make your own way. You will still be governed by the underlying systems that make up the New Legacy experience; however, you will be increasing your skills through using them in combat instead of questing.

Here is an overview of the Divergent player choice:

  • Unlocked skills will gain through combat at an increased rate.
  • New skills can be unlocked at Advanced Skill Trainers.
  • Housing access can be purchased after acquiring 600 total skill points and completing the Orc Champion spawn. Speak to a Housing Registrar in one of the towns to learn more.
  • Raising the Resisting Spells skill still requires the completion of the repeatable quest from Master Sallumax.
  • Raising Alchemy still requires the completion of the Alchemy objective line.
  • No access to base story narratives.
  • No access to town objective skill rewards.
  • Access to advanced narrative lines, such as Taming, Barding, and Assassin, will be available in a future publish.
We encourage you to provide feedback on the Divergent playstyle.

Housing

We recognize the demand for housing and plan to allow additional housing areas associated with Britannia’s cities in a future update. We also will be adding additional guidelines to optimize housing density.

Rangers & Tracking

We hear the feedback regarding tracking as a core skill to the ranger narrative. We are evaluating all the required core skills and look to add additional skill choices in a future update.

Mining

There is currently an issue with mining where failure does not automatically re-initiate the mining loop. We plan to address this in a future update.


Miscellaneous Changes & Bug Fixes

  • Players that attempt to collect an objective reward containing skill gains that do not have room for all of the skill will now collect a partial amount of the skill relevant to their skill cap.
  • There is no longer a delay on accepting Bulk Order Deed Town Objectives.
  • Defend objectives now have a larger threshold for awarding credit to those who join mid-encounter.
  • Refresh potions now have a cooldown between uses.
  • Obtain objectives no longer require you to be within a specific region when you toggle the items.
  • Hidden players will no longer always drop stealth when transitioning through dungeon levels.
  • Removed gargoyle drops from certain creatures.
  • Fixed point value of large arcanist armor BOD.
  • Allow players who unlocked Animal Taming through advanced skill training instead of the narrative objectives to access the Taming Knowledge context menu once they reach 80 skill in Taming and Lore.
  • Allow players who unlocked Animal Taming through advanced skill training instead of the narrative objectives to access advanced taming quests once they reach 80 skill in Taming and Lore. Visit the Zookeepers at the Moonglow Zoo for more information.
  • Spawn rates for objective kill areas will now scale with player density.
  • Blocked off areas of Trinsic Passage where mobs were spawning in inaccessible areas.
  • Players that fail defend objectives that are part of the narrative lines will now receive an objective guiding them on how to restart the failed objective when the failed objective is cleared from the quest objective list.
  • Adjusted descriptions of some objectives to be more clear.
  • Players should now longer see an invisible “Attack” object handler on certain defend objectives in the EC.
  • Player should no longer be able to accidentally miss the Ocllo Emissary’s quest after exiting the Moongate.
  • Shades/Wraiths/Spectres should now count as magical creatures.
  • Neira no longer drops a necromancer spellbook.
  • Certain quest objective descriptions now indicate they are a [GROUP ENCOUNTER].
  • Core skills for base archetypes have been adjusted.
  • Adjustments to the Titanweave Spider encounter.
  • Auto unlock base skills once primary narrative is completed.

When you do your quests to renew your house. It does not let the quests follow to the next month. I did more than 14.
Renewal occurs on the date.

See if you developers would just say we Don't know why it's not working or how to fix it most people could accept that but the head in the sand ostrich style leaves people angry

Got my 2 Drakes. Ones from Destard do 100% Phy Damage.

Click to select a plot. (that just means which field)

Then it seems you have to use a shovel or pickaxe to find your plot with 6 spots to plant.
Ground turns to dirt patch when tilled, then has the little seeds when you plant.
Cant plant seeds from Mobs on these. (not sure if seeds from mobs are supposed to be in NL, the name is error)

Decided to finish the quest I took from clicking the lute poster. You go to a concert. You get a Britain map. You talk to the bard guy. He sends you to the Taverns in Brit. Bards must drink a lot. Then you go through the sewers where you fight some guys at the exit. You read a tattered scroll on the rocks.

This is the quest to add advanced bard skills also.

You get a quest to go into Despise.

I did the Titanweave Spider encounter. Its entry is in the hedge maze. Couple of pics. When you walk on those cocoons you release spider minions. Battle can be done every 30 Mins.

Basically it's for crafters to help everyone. You put filled BOD's into the Congiarum to grow the tower for the mages to see better into the cosmos. The higher the tower, the more the mages can see and spread their magic into the items you loot off of mobs.

Wow that congiarum is interesting, so, you put BODs on it like the tree and when a stage advances, the realm will start producing items with new modifiers. That is some very interesting game mechanics. We control how OP we want to make ourselves.

concerning farming , all i will say is it needs a lot more "splaining" to do.
planted 9 seeds at 830 pm last night , days to water every 24 hrs. came back 830 am to check them for water , six were gone completely. three were in tiny brown cluster stage. also couldnt replant new seeds there nor buy a fresh plot because i own this disaster ....
uhm what?

Because we are in the 2000s also. Who wants to lose a pet at every fight? Most bosses dismount. Tamable pets are pretty weak in NL.

I was taking my finished guy along with my new toon to help speed up his quests, that's why I did my next 14.

My Farm plot looked like this when I logged in. I thought oh no, most died. But they are just in need of water. Some plants are hard to see.

After watering they look like this. One of the ones on the edge had a growth burst. It was just planted yesterday.

You can not interact with them other than water them. If you click them they tell you what plant they are.

When joining the Yacht Club you can either take gold and give to the owner or use his menu to remove gold from bank.

The first thing you notice about NL is the new trees. They are very green. I suppose they will change with the seasons. Its summer right now.

Covetous is in NL, same spot as prodo) but it has some very mean critters. As you can see from the bodies of previous explorers.
Very tough stuff, the mummies (vile Cadavers) have healing.

Can get Ossein Rams also. But you need a Tame undead book to read. It is a boss drop, only 1 player has so far.

Also there is a Dragon Lore book to tame Dragons and WW. No one has that yet and dont know where from.

2 slot. With those resists and damage and Battle defense prob the best pet.

On a Tamers self menu, there is a View Taming Knowledge.
You have to get a scroll to learn them from a Boss drop.
There is also a tamable Cu w/o healing. But you have to have that scroll to tame them.

Forgot to mention that Wrong is in NL. It has an NPC guard. First floor has Brigands wandering around and in cells on first floor.

Yet another feature, another layer, another thing to keep track of - seems NL is getting more and more complicated - is this good or bad, I wonder?

They say 2 per account. Maybe they want you to open another account if you like it. Posters have asked for more player interaction.

A lot of the things they are doing is "forcing" that. Some players are set in their ways and have moved on from player interaction all the time.

IMO they should not listen to posters.

I'm guessing they do not want us to make multiple fighters and crafting mules so we will be forced to interact with each other for repairing and such.

You can have a fighter and crafter, but I think most like to have more templates, so they may not make a crafter. They would have to interact with others for repairs and items.
