AND when it was reinstated they said they would not make awesome items....LOL...guess the people they cater for got there way again!!!
I'm pretty sure they said they wouldn't make items with properties, not that they simply wouldn't make any items.

Does anyone know why Mesanna stopped the EM's from helping with Player Run Events last fall?

Ah, the joys of the postmodern age.

A thoughtful and reasonable post and some consider a two-line conspiracy theory to be an appropriate response.

all he really told us is that the old EM program was horribly corrupt, that the current EMs can create items, and that at least one of them started giving away things he wasn't supposed to on his very first day. well gee, you'd have to be a conspiracy theorist to look at that set of facts and worry that an EM might be giving away items on the side. just because one of them was already fired for it.

A player came up to him and asked him to "sign" his robe. He did, making it a robe signed by Thomas Pyewacket (or w/e his name is). It was noticed, and he was promptly relived of duties.

My point is, while in the past the corruption went completely unchecked, today the EMs are watched VERY VERY closely.

I thought EM's real character personas are confidential? How would you poll their home shard if that's the case?

They're not. They just must post under their EM names here on Stratics (and other fansites) because they are representing UO. It is my understanding that being an EM isn't a "secret", you can tell your friends. You just can't give your friends special favors or privileges. (and I just realized I have a hard time spelling privileges)

You have no idea how many complaints they would get if an EM helped me with an event.
If they provided written posted guidelines for everyone, for example:

1. Gates to the event from 1 town of your choice for the outlined time period.
2. Lockdown of up to X number of Player supplied items which are released after event is over.
3. No prizes or unique items to be provided.
4. etc etc.

and stuck to them, how could anyone complain about favoritism?

Supporting Player run events builds the community. I've run many events without EM help so I don't mind doing it without. I was just really disappointed to hear that most of the community is no longer supported.

Why should providing you with support that anyone can have if they hold an event bring complaints if they stick to the guidelines?

Because people find things to complain about no matter what you do.
I have an event. Certain parties don't get to go... drama ensues.
People will spam the chat with rude things, show up and be disruptive etc etc etc.
I really wish people weren't this way, but they are.

Unless something has changed, NO ONE was supposed to know you are an EM.

This is the discussion thread from November 2008 when the EM program returned: http://stratics.com/community/threads/event-moderators.112203/#post-967384 . It includes several posts from Mesanna answering questions people had about the program.

Cal's announcement of the return of the program: http://uo.stratics.com/uoherald/news/[news.php?newsid=455 .

Announcement from Cal that doesn't have its own page:

Event Moderator Program

Hi everyone,
We’ve had some great submissions for the Event Moderator Program so far, and we’ve seen a slew of applications.
I would like to make a request. Please remember that we are reviewing everyone’s applications extensively, but also remember that we’re trying to do a very thorough job. Please understand that we have been putting this together for over four months. We ask you wait a few more days as we go through the almost 100 applications we have received so far. Afterwards, we will post the names and send out all of the documentation necessary to complete the process as independent contractors support UO:Live.
There will be no special consideration given for former EMs. Previous procedures, policies, and contractual obligations are void for this iteration of the Event Moderator program.
Thanks for understanding,

Letter from Cal: http://uo.stratics.com/uoherald/news/news.php?newsid=476 .

There were also some Five on Friday posts in November and December 2008 regarding the EM program that I can't access.

I'm still looking for any posts that listed qualifications or what you had to put in the application.

This is exactly how I feel..... would have been nice to have a gate... They don't even show up at Shard events anymore. Sadly. We miss that. They used to do quite a number of awesome community building things.... but no more. And if you ask me it is we the customers who are losing out. Just really irritates me that a few rotten apples have to spoil things for everyone else.

Totally is uncool that we who work hard to provide events for our shards can't get help from the EM's to bring really nice events to others. Seems wrong that we can't utilize a system set in place to better the community to actually do more than provide drops to ungrateful scum.
