Remaking my thief with the new Pub 57 comin' out and I wanna steal people's scrolls...cuz lots of other things are boring me in game with all the PvP cheats etc...

So was thinking that on my thief i'd have along these lines...

Wrestle
Parry
Ninja
Stealing
Hiding
Stealth
Chivalry
Snooping

not sure what else... wrestle to disarm dexers trying to chase me down + paralyze hit.

Parry to equip shield after i've stolen whatever item so my defense is higher so I can survive ganks between hiding/smoke bombs.

Chivalry to heal if need be and to port around.

Now wielding a shield, will that interfere with my stealthing? will it need to be SC or can a regular one work too?

You'd do better dropping any stealing skills, it sucks balls! Could make more money (and probably get more enjoyment) pimping my 98 year old grandmother!

Why magic resist when I can carry a trapped box and use smoke bombs to hide then stealth away?

Bigmike, i'm not doing it for money... just enjoyment. Something different. And with this new pub 57 it might be fun stealing these new items/scrolls etc... Just bored with other things so I want to play a thief at least for a little while.

If you're not gonna contribute then kindly leave this thread alone.

Actively, my thief usually makes 10's of mils per month. If I actually play him.

Lost the chiv, pick up magery.
lose parry, get resist spells.

I guess you don't need resist spells, mine doesnt have it.

I don't think parry or wrestling will be of much good. I don't plan on being in contact long enough to use either one.

Smoke will work even if frozen. I don't have magery resist. I have actually been in full contact with a balron and smoke work.

Magery because the hiding and stealing are both skills. I use a macro to cast invis self if I can and have time with the faster cast stuff helps that a lot.

I just figured parry in case I get revealed and am still in the timer for using another smoke bomb.

Arch, what template are you running?

The reason I thought wrestle was so I could disarm a dexer if need be in a pinch.

I'm just looking for a template to stay alive the best. Don't really need anything offensive.

What will wraith form do for me as a thief? I thought you couldn't stealth through things even in wraith form?

Here's what I have been at for a while now.

60's Stealing
100 Snoop
80's Stealth
100 Hiding
90's magery
90's Ninja
120 Wrestle

Wear's Burglar's Bandana.
100 LRC, 60's suit with HP regen, Stam regen.
Elf for detecting traps, +20 mana and Night sight.
I run about 80 mana.

Magery is excellent for Invis, Cure, G Heal, Teleport, you name it.
3/6 Animal form lets you escape very quickly.
You should never stick around long enough on foot to need use of the Wrestling specials.

Only thing I would consider changing is replacing Wrestling with Fencing.
The Shadowstrike special move is the greatest thief escape ability. In fact, I will replace my guy's wrestling when pub 57 starts.
Shadowstrike is invaluable.

I think the shadow strike is a great idea.
Question is how will it work against a char templet with parry and us no tactics or anatomy?

Anatomy has always been where to place to do the most good.
Tactics was how to get it there.

Are we going to be able to do much with no poisoning on the templet. My templet is tight as it is.

I have a nox-fencer and it would be hard pressed to do much if anything.

I think I have a 90% chance of blocking a single hit like that. Maybe even more depending on the opponet's skill.

I'm not sure what you're asking Warrior, but i'll write something down =).

A thief only needs Fencing on the template, no anatomy or tactics.
Neither anatomy or tactics helps with hitting your opponent. Only Wep skill and hit chance determines that.
Infectious strike and shadowstrike do not need tactics to work.

Shadowstrike is a backup escape ability. It's great if you get revealed in spawns.
Revealed > Strike nearest creature > poof, hidden.

The object here is not to kill anyone with Anatomy, tactics, nox, or whatever. It's to escape. If you escape on your thief, YOU WIN. That's one reason i love it so much hehe.

If you come into contact with a Parry/Bush Dexxer, don't even attempt a Shadowstrike on him. You probably won't hit him unless you have 40+HCI and 120 Fencing. Find a monster closeby and attack it instead. Easy out.:scholar:

Never thought of using shadowstrike...so do you need 80 real stealth to use it or will jewels work as well? And why do you run with such low stealing? even with burglars/dancer leggings thats only another 30... or are you rollin' with +stealing jewels too?

You need to be hidden to use shadow strike just like stealing. How can I snoop then attemp a steal and shadow stike. I also am not sure that targeting something other than the mark would be a good idea.

I am thinking that it is better to use the suprise of revealing next to a person to cast invise with all the fc/fcr I can get works better. I can still stealth 90 degrees to the path they moved away under the spell. A lot of times I only give them time to target me if I try and run.

Now if they decide to let a gargoyal stealth on the fly that would be a diff story. I could then stealth on a mount. Since the speed running is not the same as riding a horse.

As it is flying will be mount speed for them. (they either walk or fly) They will be giving up the running unmounted, or mount walking speeds. Also in KR the flapping wings will get in the way. Go to KR and cast on yourself to be a gargoyal. I only found out when Trick or Treating. You will also need the open door macro. the wings got in the way.

If you are looking for a theif tank I would do the following:

Skill Real Post Items
stealing 70 100
snooping 90 100
hiding 100 100
stealth 60 90
wrestle 115 115
parry 115 115
Ninja 115 115
chiv 55 55

Should be pretty cheap scroll-wise. None of those skills take long to train to the listed cap aside from Ninja.

I'd use the Burglar's Bandana, Shadow Dancer Legs, Heart of Lion, Arcane Sheild, Ornament of Magician, and a 1/2 or 1/3 ring with high DCI. Disarm shield to steal, and then equip as you run. Carry all of the pots/smoke bombs/trapped boxes of course.

For stats I would keep around 40 int, at least 80 dex, and the rest in STR to keep your HP high.

Yeah, resist is handy in many situations, but not nearly as much as parry and wrestling.

Just don't get caught being mana vamped on foot, and you'll be fine.

Shadow strike is nice, but it requires you have a dagger in hand...which eliminates any chance to steal, unless you are quick with your macros...la
Make the steal, equip last weapon then toggle Shadowstrike.
Not all that difficult.

You don't need to be hidden to use Shadowstrike.
It's not like Stealing, it's a weapon special. You can use it anytime you are on foot. Even right after a steal.

You don't need to target anything to use it.

My Stealing is low because I wanted to fit other things in.
He is a scroll stealer anyway, they are only 1 stone.:scholar:

I roll with Orny and a 1/3 ring with +10 Ninjitsu. Really fast animal forms.
