Hell all. I left UO right as Stygian Abyss was launching. I am returning as a casual player and I would like to go back into Armor/Weapon smithy again. I was wondering what skills are needed nowadays. I see Imbuing and a few others that I don't know.

Here are my Armorsmiths current stats/build:

Blacksmithy 120
Arms Lore 100
Carpentry 100
Lumberjacking 94.2
Mining 100
Tailoring 109.9/120 (Power Scroll read)
Magery 55.0 (Locked)
Musicianship 41.1 (Arrowed down)

I have 2 Soul Stones available and a few fragments too, so I can move/store skills.

What would a solid Armorsmith need nowadays?

I had a similar setup but ended up moving mining to my treasure hunter so I could add imbuing to crafter.

120 Blacksmith
120 Tailor
120 Imbuing
100 Arms Lore
100 Carpentry
100 Tinker
40 Mage (+40 from book and jewels)

If you want to be able to craft a full range of weps/AR as well as being able to gather your own resources you may want to get eithr some soulstones or soulstone frags. I swap out my skills as needed but have maxed out all craft skills (except cooking) I only use magery for recalling so I just have a spellbook and +15 on my jewels to do this so I dont have to messa round with real skill.

If you want to be able to make high end gear imbuing is a must... there is enough information to make your head hurt on imbuing / reforging here on the forums.... I have only recently got into the crafting skills and I am making it my mission to understand as much as I can about crafting good pieces... thing to remember is that the base pieces are what make the final piece what it is.... take the time to craft the right base pieces to get where you want to be. its worth it in the end.

My crafter has most of the crafting skills at GM/120.. I just soulstone things around as needed. Typically Alchemy, Inscription, etc are not used much and when I need to put something on I usually just take mining off, do what I need to do, then swap back. I've found that the skills I use on my crafter the most have nothing to do with crafting stuff and more to do with making repairs (Smithing, Tailoring, Tinkering, Carpentry and Fletching).

I also quit right as SA was being released and have been back about 5 months now. Imbuing in alot of ways is a stand alone skill (meaning it's not effected by any of the other crafting skills) So I just made myself a gargoyle and 120ed Imbuing on him (Mystic/Mage char).

With scrollbooks I am not sure why you want to hang on to magery. I enjoy killing ore elementals when mining so my smith/miner has macing and anatomy and healing. However with soulstones you can put mining on another character and do that.

Yeah I agree, for a "pure" crafter type (unless you want to make add ons for houses) i don't see the point in magery... as for mining I have it on my treasure hunter so I have myst/mage... I also love ore elementals... I managed to get 4 shadow elementals from one spot in fel the other night...

Also a note on mining... in felucca, while there is the risk of getting killed, you will get double the ore from each swing (double the ingots) if you get a tamer to tame you a fire beetle or buy one from new magincia and bond it you have a mobile forge!

If you need any assistance just give me a shout (directed at OP but Ill help anyone I can hehe)
