Your hypothetical scenario has one major glaring flaw! The crimson dragon does not use speed hacks, stump hacks, pot exploits, etc.
Which, in case you hadn't noticed, are all pretty much made useless by the fact that this takes place on an island. If the Scary Reds get outnumbered during combat, just where are they going to speedhack to? The other end of the island?

And as far as it being fish in a barrel...

If I were faced with this situation, I'd probably grab me some friends, some notable "good guys" who PvP (they exist, even on Atlantic), and I'd take a few boats... you can turn the barrel into something as equally unenjoyable for the reds.

In the end, people are making wild assumptions that this makes "The Quest" uncompletable, when there's zero indication anywhere that you do anything other than (1) get a chance at "cool new prizes" each day (ie: Megacliloc Cloak and Megacliloc Talisman), and (2) the opportunity to declare your allegiance to Minax or Dawn. I mean, if you only declare your allegiance to Dawn 9 of 10 days, is she going to be programmed to say, "You weren't allegiant enough!"

I sailed there with my evil char only to find good folks guarding the area so that people could do the quest. Take a bow Drachies.

We could do the book just fine on Drachenfels. It does help to have a 35 guild Alliance. :)

The Ricardo book being in Felucca is fine by me. If you don't like the risk, you can skip this one part of the quest and lose nothing.

Unfortunately it is true that the Felucca PvP tactics are not very entertaining or honorable, but I would not complain about that either. It has been like this all the years, we know about it, and if we do not like it we shouldn't go to Felucca.

I've been on Felucca Skull Island today for 2 hours, having some fun with Felucca PvPers. I guess they now know that even RPers are people to reckon with in PvP. I saw all the typical tactics: Reskilling, only fighting when outnumbering the enemy, killing defenseless players who do the quest, hiding or fleeing when numbers are equal. I realized that those who boast about their PvP skills aren't invincible at all, and not even too skilled PvPers, despite their insane faction equipment.
On Catskills, 2 pirates ensured the safety of the island for at least 1 hour, until the killers returned with reinforcements and with reskilling tactics. That's when it became annoying and we left.

Anyway, we all know how things work in Felucca. If we go there, get reskilled, ganked, looted dry, we should not complain about it. The Felucca PvP system encourages this behavior, and of course most people play by it.

It is the reason why most players avoid Felucca altogether, which is a pity. But if the PvP system isn't overhauled completely, Felucca still will be inhabited by nobody but a handful of l33t gankers a few years from now (I'm exaggerating here, but I think you get my point).

P.S.: For the sake of fairness, I didn't notice anyone speedhacking this time, which honestly surprised me. However, auto-cure-chugging-scripts are still used by almost every Felucca PvPer, which makes the poisoning skill totally useless.

Solution: Cast gate to spot (assuming there are runes available) step back, and hide or cast invis. Step into gate. You will still be hidden on the other side. Or maybe you have to do it after it asks you if you are sure you want to go to fel... I know its doable.

Click book, and step back through gate. If the gate gets dispelled, you will have still clicked the book, so even if you die, you can just gate or help stuck out.

It's not such a big deal.

Walking through a gate will unhide you. If I wanted to do this safely, my preferred tactics would be to simply use a stealther. Recall to a spot off the book location (or use a boat), hide and stealth to the book. Have a safety recall ready. No big deal, really, even if the island is full of murderers.

There's no developer issue, no content issue, no reason to change it, no reason to even think twice about having done it.
Well now, that's certainly a matter of opinion. I'm sure all of the people that said **** the event because they would be forced to participate in a playstyle they have no wish to participate in if they wished to complete the quest would disagree with you.

Bottom line, the quest started in both Tram and Fel, and should have had both Tram and Fel locations each and every day, and not mixed the 2 together. There was no reason for this other than to yet again toss out another carrot so the PK griefers can be tossed a bone.

After a full day of reading chat and seeing how ****ed up it was for the majority of people to get to the book, my point pretty much proved itself. There were a lot of pissed off people yesterday, and there will be even more today.

Yep, a bunch of pissed off players is just what we need right now. I'm glad the Dev's thought to program this event to cause such anger. It's got to be good for the game for no reason other than because the Devs made it like that. I mean, they're perfect right? They can't be wrong or make a wrong decision now can they?

*rolls eyes & facepalms at the ignorance shown by some people - aimed at no one in particular...*

Anyone angry about this needs to turn off their computer, and walk away from UO. Forever. Period.

This is why there should be a only Trammel ruleset server

PvPers have got Seige. Why dont non-PvPers have an only Trammel ruleset server?

Without doubt the only Trammel ruleset server will outlast Seige, Production servers and Classic, because of the wolves and sheep situation that these non-consentual PvP servers have.
The developers gave a reason why such a thing will not happen. If you keep Trammel and Felucca on one server chances are better that players who are tired of one playstyle might find another.
So with two different rulesets the developers hope to keep their customers bound to their product.

The same might be said about people that refuse to see things from the other side's point of view. Myopic is what they're called I do believe....rolleyes:

I'm glad you've successfully identified your social problem, Connor. Now go back and reread all of your posts about anything and understand that you fail to see anything through any lens other than your own.

I frequently see things from differing points of view which is why I'm not pissed off that the last two days' books were put in a place where PvP could potentially occur.

It's called understanding. Something you never seem capable of doing.

But you win again, Connor, because I'm tired of your subtle hints that everyone who disagrees with you is below you.
